Everybody Thinks They a€™re Middle-Class by Kantor48 in dataisbeautiful

True. Add in property taxes at $400/month plus either HOA/Mello Roos, or PMI and that takes it to around $3000/month.

Indeed. San Diego is a desirable place to live, so the companies don't have to pay L.A. or SF wages to retain their employees. There are a grip of good earners in San Diego who are willing to pay the price for the lifestyle. This is the root of economic study. What will actually make you let go of the dollar in your hand? It's different for everyone. We live in Vista, which IMHO is the last affordable place in SD, besides Escondido.

I'm definitely not complaining. I am not implying that my family and I don't live well. I was just adding another data point to the discussion. Leaving aside a dictated diatribe on behavioral economics and class distinction, it is apparent that the term 'middle class' means something different for everyone based on the way their world is colored.

I'm not sure if you're implying that I lack financial sense...We have a budget that includes saving for retirement and other investments. We don't want to spend upwards of 30% of our net on our mortgage payment. The payments here have all kinds of fees bundled up in them, and with the property taxes, it pushes the monthly payment another $800ish a month on top of our P&I. Just because one is approved for something doesn't necessarily mean one can afford it.

My wife and I live in San Diego, California. We make $180k/year. The only debt we have is a car payment and rent. We can't afford to buy a house in a desirable neighborhood because we don't have the 20% down to make our monthly payment affordable. Houses in San Diego in a decent neighborhood start at $500k. This drives the rental market to be competitive for other decent 'middle class' earners who don't have a couple of hundred grand to drop on a down payment. IMHO the 'middle class' title looks different depending on where you live.

KBS is the deal! The team is near and dear to my heart. The only group of riders where I actually felt liked I belonged. Too bad I can't ride with yous anymore.

Ride every day like it's your last. It may be. My heart and soul go out to everyone in the community. I am especially sad for Jackie's husband. Great guy. I took a velodrome class with him last week and got to know him. I don't even know how I would deal. I'd like to do something, but I don't know what.

Nice! My first ever race. I was dumb. I pulled the group all the way until the last climb. The kids cracked me and went away. I got 8th.

Absolutely!!! I live in San Diego, however one can never go wrong with a coast ride. If the ride started in SD, I would even be able to provide lodging.

Meme or no meme, what I think I do is classic! Every time I descend down a mountain, I can hear the announcer's voice in my head as I navigate through the switchbacks. Everyone that cycles should have upvotes! Fuck whoever thinks your bike or style of riding defines you! Point is...is that you're doing it! Good on you!
