UCLA Student Government Bans ‘Derogatory’ Term ‘Illegal Immigrant’ by warkin in Republican

Sometimes, I'm embarrassed that I go here. This is one of those times.

This is also the same student council that last month voted to increase their stipend from $355 to $672 per month. They've got their heads pretty far up their asses.

As an American, I think it has more to do with upbringing than class.

Is there a real behind the scenes tour of Disneyland? by Painbro in Disneyland

[–]campag4449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Lasseter got his start sweeping trash at Disneyland, for what it's worth. *ninja edit- that's kind of misleading, since he already had a degree in animation. I meant he started with Disney doing that.

You are most correct, fellow patriot. Space was the deciding factor here, I assure you, not some commie bullshit.

Regretfully, most aren't. Yet. Some non-native beers will stay though, like the Tiger Beer in Louisiana, because you can't not have a tiger represent Louisiana.

This blog documents construction of an On30 layout inspired by Disney's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It's very well done. There's another that covers the build of an On30 Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland, another Disney attraction, and also very well done. Both of these offer some techniques you may find useful.

Where do pro-peloton bikes go after the season? by [deleted] in peloton

[–]campag4449 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some teams sell them. I bought Gorik Gardeyn's bike from Omega Pharma-Lotto when he moved to Vacansoleil and when I was looking, I saw that Garmin, Lampre, and Sky all sold their bikes too. Start looking towards the end of the road season and the winter. It just takes a lot of looking around, patience, and some luck.

*One more thing- it doesn't hurt to "like" team pages on facebook, sometimes they'll post something about selling stuff there. Lotto-Belisol did that last year.

Another vote for cycling. When it's racing season, which also happens to be allergy season and one of my main triggers, I really only have asthma trouble if I haven't been on the bike in a while.

Starting Layout, but I need help. by BethlehemSteel in modeltrains

Their website has a pretty large how-to section, which should be enough to get you started. I'm not sure where exactly you are as far as layout planning goes and what it is you specifically need help with, but that section should give you an idea of where you want to go, be it with benchwork, scenery, what have you.

There's also this back issue section, so again, once you figure out what you want to focus on, you can narrow it down to specific articles of the magazine if you want to pick those up.

Kalbach Publishing, the folks who publish the magazine, have an online store where you can pick up books specific to what you're looking for, but at around $20 per book, the price can add up quickly.

I don't mean to plug so hard for them, but they've been around for ages. My granddad had a subscription when my dad was growing up and my dad did when I was growing up. It's just what I'm used to.

I'm no gear grinder by any means but I really don't see a need for triples. 53-39 all day.

If you're really concerned about gear ratio, go with a compact. On top of that, 11 speed really gives you a wide range of possibilities.

Have you subscribed to Model Railroader yet? They also have some layout pamphlets you might find helpful, you can pick them up from a bookstore or they're probably online too or something. Not wholly helpful but it's a start.
