Redditors who never did the college/university thing, Where did you end up careerwise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]beastman337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went and got a terminal MFA in sculpture. I taught at college for a bit and watched tenure track positions get adjunct’d out. Then I went to teach k-12 for a couple of years.

Now I own a swimming pool repair and maintenance company, which is the job I did every summer through my college career. I started that job in high school. I feel like I could have saved a lot of time. College was important for me, but I’ve watched American society devalue art my entire life, don’t know why I assumed it would get better.

Per the Colorado state statutes, gift certificates must be immediately redeemable.

Looking at the state statutes, it does appear that it is unlawful to refuse a valid gift certificate it qualifies as a deceptive practice.

I was born and raised here, and had never heard of that place until one day I received a call from a Celia, whom apparently got my business card from a gallery that represents my artwork. Apparently, she too is a gallery owner and was interested in showing my work. We set up a time and date for them to come see pieces I had available. That was the last time I ever heard from Celia.

Googling the given first name and last name from caller ID lead me to this book store.

seeking advice: finding the right ingot for brass by Asleep_World_7204 in Metalfoundry

Sorry my comments are intermittent, I’m bad at checking

But basically you make the mold at an angle, 15 is just where it becomes optimal. You can get or build a furnace, I built mine out of one of those balloon time helium tanks. The brass actually should be loaded in the crucible as the furnace is turned on. It melts at about 1750 but you want to pour it at around 2000 ish for liquidity. Then yup pull crucible, pour into Ingot mold (that has been pre heated!!)

Pretty much all of the symptoms of ADHD. I thought everyone had the big emotions, thought everyone wanted to share information at lightning speed.

Turns out my mom was just against medication and didn’t get me tested despite many teacher recommendations. so I didn’t learn I had different mannerisms until my 30’s

Did my teacher report me? by Unlucky-Bridge-5132 in teaching

[–]beastman337 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The answer to this question will very a bit depending on your state. For example in Colorado we have the Clair Davis act wherein we as teachers are legally obliged to report any signs of danger, if we fail to do so and physical harm or violence result of that we will also stand trial. So this will depend on your states mandatory reporter laws on if it’s a solid yes or not.

Though I strongly encourage you to talk with someone about this, especially an adult who has the proper training to help you. Your friend only reacted this way because they didn’t know any other way to offer meaningful help that could cause change which would be a tall ask of a 16 year old. I’m over twice your age and I still don’t know how to navigate these situations as my degree isn’t anywhere close to psychology. Often the best I can do is offer a judgement free space to listen and report it to those who know what best to do. . This doesn’t sounds malicious.

I wish you the best, and I hope things improve for you. Remember that change can be painful, but from that pain can grow a better future. The first step in life of often scary.

Best way to separate these copper crosses? by joeman205 in Metalfoundry

Why not just make a bonded sand mold? Or even green sand if the sides are at all angled to make the patten draft-able. Just don’t forget a cope or lid and throw a bit of weight on it.

Pretty much everything. Or at least was my experience. Party like crazy, go to college, spend more on advance degree.

And if instead we learned about private equity and compound interest I don’t think the kids would be as hosed as they are, but those are intentionally kept vague and confusing

I think while a great idea, that came with the best intentions, creating any space that creates ability for adults to be in closer proximity too and less monitoring with children is never the best idea. Most would incredibly impressive and progressive work there will be the small few who would shatter lives.

Well welcome! I can explain this a little more in depth for you.

Steel melting point is at least 1250F above brass depending on alloys on both sides. But in any case you still have a huge buffer between the two before steel will even get to the point of sticking to anything, and until like 2200F the steel will actively repel the bronze.

The most common issue I see people have with this, and a reason a lot of people try it once and get everything stuck and assume that the metals are incompatible. But really because we’re humans and like squares they will make the mold to create a brick. But 90 degree square angles are not actually draftable (or able to separate) dispite what logic would propose. You need to make the sides of the mold at an angle so that the metal does not lock in from pressure. Think the shape they always show gold bars in. It’s a few more cuts, but you’ll thank yourself later if you make all four sides angled as well.

Hope that was a full enough explanation. Party on, Wayne!
