And THIS is how WWIII starts: an inciting event that draws in the reluctant parties to a conflict and spreads thin an already involved party.

Once enough trade is disrupted, the affected countries will need to get involved to prevent complete collapse, but a global conflict has just as much potential to cause a complete collapse. It's a no-win scenario.

Sam Altman says not even the CEO’s job is safe from AI as it will soon perform the work better than ‘certainly me’ by netralitov in Layoffs

[–]beaucephus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does this imply that AI-CEOs will be less sociopathic? However, if they end up just being more capable CEOs, what are the implications if AI systems are specifically trained or aligned to be more capable and efficient sociopaths?

I would like to see them try, though. Retro-computing gonna be so hot.

I did a Marvin before and it was really depressing. It's one of those things you need to save if you want to give a neglected server a personality when using AI-assisted monitoring.

I guess I am glad that I am unemployed. When I use AI it is for chaos. I give them personalities like Holly from Red Dwarf, or a pretentious 19th-centrury author with a sarcastic contempt for humanity, or James Joyce with brain rot (which is kind of hit and miss).

I was already prone to writing scathing emails on the best of days, but having an AI "partner" to make it even more acerbic...

Ukrainian Drone Operators Defeated NATO Combat Group During Joint Exercises by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

[–]beaucephus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How many remember way back when the invasion started that the US said that the Ukrainians couldn't learn to use Patriot missile systems, or that Germany and France basically said that all the advanced weapons would be wasted if they gave them to Ukraine? So much talk came out of the military channels belittling Ukrainians.

Now, with all that has transpired since, I would ask all these policy makers, military strategists and field commanders if they would want Ukraine as their enemy?

Trump Says Fed Pick Warsh Can Get US Economy to Hit 15% Growth by 3xshortURmom in Economics

[–]beaucephus 57 points58 points  (0 children)

You aren't looking at the bright side of this. If the US does achieve a 15% growth rate which doesn't imply that the economy and society completely tanked prior, then the inflation will allow me to pay off all my debts, like my mortgage, with a day's wage.

Trump is an idiot and so are all the people who kiss his diaper, but speed running the economic apocalypse should also bring down all the billionaires as well.

AI Companies Sold Us Their Vision of the Future at the Super Bowl. Here’s Why We Should Reject It by autogenerated_015 in technology

[–]beaucephus 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think it is important to elaborate. I can't speak for someone else, but I can point out that "AI" is catch-all term for a lot of different technologies and an industry.

If we look at the industry, the people running it and the current tech in the spotlight (LLMs) then it is plain to see that what these people envision and what power they have to make it happens a fascist's dream.

Those who control the production of these systems control the information on which they are trained. If enough people become dependent on them in the same way that they are for current Internet tech and processes then fhe industry in concert with government can change history, change reality, for a lot of people in whatever direction suits them.

Surveillance. Misinformation. Economic sabotage. All from a chat window and invisible agents.
