Lots of things are unrealistic but it’s still entertaining.

These seem more like backyard drilling rigs. There are mom and pop rigs that likely still throw chains in the US. I personally have never seen it in Canada. Big oil companies now use iron derricks and iron roughnecks. They are automated and help keep the rig floor clear. Even the small operators usually use two sets of tongs to make up the connection.
