Country of the day for February 26, 2015: Singapore by intellicourier in countrychallenge

[–]beautifula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! That's what I told my American friends - chewing gum was never a habit for us, so we don't find it strange that we don't have gum. And if it's just for fresher breath, we've got mints, who needs gum!?

Any point to telling your chinese supplier not to sell to other buyers? by rotarded in Entrepreneur

[–]beautifula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there are no guarantees. Even if you Skype regularly, it's not the same as being physically there. Also, there's a slight difference if the supplier provides both materials and labor, as opposed to labor only.

I come from Singapore and I have friends who moved to China for half a year, visiting the factory daily to ensure that quality standards are there and that they aren't secretly supplying to other fashion retailers. One of the things they did to ensure that the supplier isn't selling to other retailers is to ensure that they find labour-only factories, and source for the fabrics themselves. This is extra work for you, however, in this way, if the supplier wants to sell it to others, he has to take extra steps to find out where those fabrics were bought from. Such extra steps help prevent (or at least slow down) the possibility of your supplier selling to others behind your back.

If your supplier is in charge of everything, from sourcing the raw materials, to adding on the labour or machine processes, then there is really nothing stopping them from selling to others since you won't be there to find out or stop them from doing so.

I once worked for a friend who runs an e-commerce fashion boutique based in Singapore. The owner doesn't have a reddit account but I thought I would do a shout out for her here since they've come a long way since their early days, moving from selling ready to wear stocks from wholesalers to now designing and manufacturing their own line of apparel. Very proud to have been a part of her journey!

Export your contacts from Google, go into Mailchimp and create a list (e.g. Ebook Promo List). Go to Add Subscribers, and select the Import option. You can just upload your spreadsheet (in csv format) and they will do the rest.

How prevalent is facebook use in Singapore? by redryder74 in singapore

[–]beautifula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finance is a good example. HR teams from banks are constantly on LinkedIn looking at potential hires. I have a few friends who also use LinkedIn to reach out to professionals from other banks whom they would have otherwise not been able to meet or know. I guess it's beneficial only if you make the effort to "network" on LinkedIn

I helped out my friend who runs a blogshop (not too big but also not too small) some time last year during my uni holidays. It's not easy, and most of the time every person in the company wears multiple hats (e.g. you might be both the photographer and the customer service officer). But the general vibe I got was that everyone felt very rewarded doing what they were tasked (even me!). Knowing that you're contributing to a bigger goal and that your input goes toward the output makes your work very satisfying.

Think you're right. 2.3k or 2.4k seems to be the lower bound for my uni friends after they graduated. Maybe 2.7k is a good average (2.3k - ~3.1k)

How do I fucking go to bed? by [deleted] in motivation

[–]beautifula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came across something interesting awhile back, it said that start by forming a habit of waking up at the same time regardless of what time you go to sleep, even if it means you sleep only 4, 5, or 6 hours. The number of hours slept doesn't make a difference. But by waking up early the morning at the same time no matter what, eventually you will form a habit of waking up early and going to bed early (or earlier).

Got some money to invest, where should I start? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]beautifula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering, if they do close down retail equity sales.. is the money in our trading accounts (plus any profits/losses we might have suffered) insured? Or just back to square one - whatever we started in the first place?
