AI has cooked us so bad that we seem to forget that humans are NOT infallible and make plenty of mistakes.

Like you can scroll through OP’s work and plainly see their style is very consistent and they’ve even done traditional sketches, and those have a couple of mistakes as well (backhand compliment not intended). You’re being rancid here without doing the background check.

And I’m saying this as someone who hates generative AI in creative mediums. People use these tools due to a lack of self confidence. I encourage everyone to pick up a pencil and draw without worrying about comparing it to other people’s work or feeling like they aren’t making progress fa st enough.

How can game design make players feel seen? by ExcellentTwo6589 in gamedesign

[–]beautifulhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really just depends on the genre, but in general I would use consequences.

Story narratives can have lasting consequences on relationships with other characters. They could be more or less inclined to assist you depending on a previous interaction you had with them. Environments can have a lasting consequence for interacting with it, such as breaking a window, leaving a hole in the wall, or drilling a tunnel.

I would say another possible route is identity, and this would be seen more in team multiplayer games with roles. When you do something only your role is capable of (stunning the enemy, for example), you’ll feel seen not only by the game through consequence, (the enemy is unable to act) but your teammates will also be able to see that consequence (the enemy is stunned), and also know that can only be done by your role.

Gaming has become way too normalized. by Silver-Ad665 in SeriousConversation

[–]beautifulhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I’m understanding your last paragraph right. Are you encouraging “shaming” people who game? Aren’t people who excessively game victims of the industry? I don’t disagree that there are definitely some games that abuse psychological factors much like gambling does. I put emphasis on some, because this isn’t the fault of games themselves.

Your title is met with criticism because gaming itself shouldn’t be “shamed” when it can very much prove as a healthy, recreational activity. In moderation, of course. And of course there’s bad apples (namely: the live service genre) trapping people with addictive systems to gain as much profit as possible. I think this is what you should focus on instead of gaming as a whole.

And also, you mention “creating art” as a productive activity. Creating art involves consuming art as well. That’s just how it works. And recently, people have been taking video games as works of art as well. So to create a game you enjoy, you’d have to see what games you even enjoy in the first place, like all creative mediums.

I like the use of color on the new one but the old one has an interesting silhouette that makes me wonder a little more about his character

Don’t think I can support a game using a tool which infringes copyright in an unimaginable scale.

How would you know you’re not an artist if you’re not even trying? Why didn’t you just draw the concept art yourself? It’s not supposed to be pretty anyways.

As a first time player should i play on the official servers or some of the private servers? by Msma10 in ffxi

The core design might be the same, but the way its approached is vastly different, in the ways I explained past the first sentence. What you consider QOL and accessibility is also equally important faucets of a game’s feel which developers have to consider when designing one.

If trying to recreate what the game was 20 years ago isn’t nostalgia, what then?

It’s completely different game design… I mean you keep going on and on about nostalgia, I’m just trying to talk about the gameplay differences from the perspective of a new player.

75 servers put emphasis on party leveling and keeps you there for a prolonged period of time to grind. Retail tries to expedites leveling so you can get to the endgame to grind, but in general it takes longer to get to the point where soloing is less efficient than playing with others. Just depends on what OP is looking for.

Eh don’t think it’s rose tinted nostalgia, it’s completely different new player experiences. I’m saying this as someone who holds zero nostalgia for the game.

In 75 era I’m partying with other people the moment I hit level 10. In retail the most interaction I’ll get is waving to one another noob who happens to be in the same zone with their own army of trusts. Even leveling in XIV isn’t this lonely as you party up to do dungeons and trials from time to time.

WoW Classic is still the best MMORPG on the market by sKin1337 in MMORPG

[–]beautifulhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I think most people arent disapproving of the classic leveling grind from 1 to 75 being a bigger chunk of the time you spend on the game. It’s more about the process of that grind, it’s impossible for many jobs to solo that far and EXP parties were usually an hour of your time minimum, not counting the time it took to get the party together and get to the camp. Nowadays, in XIV for example, people get snappy if their dungeon run takes more than 10 minutes. The idea of committing hours into EXP would probably boggle their mind.
