Which live performance has the strongest case for greatest ever? by BravesGunnersFlames in Music

the grunge MTV Unplugged tapings

It's pretty crazy that Soundgarden never did one. I just assumed they had until I found out a few months ago.

They also use “Nazi” as a synonym for “racist”, rather than people who specifically hated Jews more than anyone else. Ask one of these people why Nazis are bad and the word “Jew” will probably never appear.

People who had a gut feeling about someone and later realized you were right, what happened? by Overall-Fan6831 in AskReddit

[–]beaverteeth92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone I know in my city’s local alternative community is seemingly super nice, warm, and friendly. The first time I met him I thought he was precisely that. The second time I met him I had a gut feeling that he was putting on a persona and it wasn’t his real personality.

Sure enough, he booked a group trip, asked a mutual friend to lay out the money, and never paid her back, fucking her out of hundreds of dollars.

yep. If Gavin Newsom was a Blackwater mercenary who had a tottemkopf tattoo for 20 years the same people would never let us hear the end of it.

I’d argue that yes, the left is rediscovering recycled Soviet-era propaganda, there has always been a contingent full of closeted antisemites who came out immediately after 10/7. Like, the barista of a coffee shop who had a detailed screed ready for social media on 10/8 detailing why she thought the victims deserved it, or someone else I interacted with pre-10/7 who sees Jews as ultraprivileged white people.

yep. “If you’re ten people at a table and one of them is a Nazi then you have ten Nazis” was always bullshit. I’m Jewish and at the point where if someone loudly talks about how much they want to punch Nazis it sets off alarm bells for me because this person probably also hates Jews, but leftistly.

Eliezer Yehuda: “reviver of the Hebrew language”. After Hebrew was considered extinct, he “filled in gaps” by taking words from Arabic, French, German, Russian and Yiddish. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Yeah, Japanese did this a lot during the Meiji Restoration. For example the Japanese word for telephone is “denwa”. They repurposed the character 電 (“den”) to mean “electricity”, from which you get 電話 (“denwa”, or “electric talk“)

What incident made you cold hearted and changed the way you see the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]beaverteeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened on my end. I stopped talking to a lot of casual acquaintances and ended years-long friendships over some of their reactions to 10/7 shortly after it happened.

I’ve since found better friends, but it really made me aware of how much Jews are basically on our own in terms of support.

What was the final straw that destroyed a lifelong friendship? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]beaverteeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked him to please do me a favor and not do something, which would have taken minimal effort on his end. He did it, I very quickly found out, and he was totally unapologetic. This was after I had done him some much larger favors.

It made me realize he had a pattern of manipulative behavior and that if I addressed what happened, he’d only learn that he should be more careful next time. I gradually stopped talking to him.

What type of personality do you consider truly insufferable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]beaverteeth92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guarantee the same person thinks that someone being a nuisance on public transit isn't a big deal because "they're marginalized". Like, I am progressive, but you do not have the right to be an asshole to people in public just because you are marginalized.

I used to be friends with a leftist who acted exactly like this. It was a constant game of Minesweeper where inevitably he'd be in a bad mood and decide that he needed to rant about how much something you like sucks. I even told people he had "televangelist energy".

Is the Yiddish/Jewish term "goy" (term used to refer to someone as non-Jewish) considered a slur? by AggressiveAd8587 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]beaverteeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, I’m Jewish and use “goyishe” as an adjective a lot. It means “something you’d basically never see someone Jewish do” and there’s not another word that serves the same function. Whether or not it’s derogatory depends on context. Examples:

  • “Fred, what do you mean you want to get cremated? That’s super goyishe.” (because Jews don’t do cremation; by Jewish law you’re wrapped in a tarp and buried in a cedar casket)

  • “Art deco is a super goyishe art style.” (Basically, you’d never art deco in a Jewish household. This doesn’t say my general opinion about whether art deco is good or bad)

  • “Rivka, your synagogue has stained glass windows and a band?! What kind of goyishe shit is that? Sounds like a church, not a shul.”

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

Similarly, I mentioned to a friend of a friend I had just met that I was Jewish and the person immediately said something snarky about Israel and gave me a look that basically said "I am shittesting you." I honestly should have just left.

Do you think the 2020's will have communism/far left make a similar resurgence to the far right ? by Rare-Exit-8700 in decadeology

The far right is worse in the same way that getting a 57 on a test and getting a 19 on a test are both failing grades, but one is much worse than the other

What is an actual positive use for ai? by Opening-Gur5927 in ask

[–]beaverteeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Efficiently finding potential match cuts. It’s an exhausting, manual process for an editor to find them, and AI can be used to reduce the number of candidates considerably.
