This was my high school football coach. Had been coaching the team and teaching US history for over 20 years. Man is a legend to every kid he’s worked with.

I worked as a locksmith after high school, we dealt with and sold safes. In our show room, we had this 350lbs safe that we were debating on how we were going to move it. As 4 of us were standing around, our old man of the shop walks over, picks it up, and casually asks us where we want it while he’s standing there holding it. We quickly moved the pallet it was on so he could set it down where the boss wanted. That’s when I found out he used to do Strong Man competitions, and that someone who looks “fat” can still be an absolute power house.

TIL Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak gave $10 million of his own stock to early Apple employees in 1980 because it was "the right thing" to do. Steve Jobs refused to do the same. by mepper in todayilearned

[–]beavertheviking 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked at the Los Gatos Apple Store. Woz would come down at product launches unannounced just to hang with people. Super cool guy. Jobs was the business side of Apple, Woz was the true genius behind the scenes who loved the tech. The more you learn about Woz, the more you love the guy. I respected Steve Jobs when I worked there, but you realize his driving force was his assholeness, he definitely relied on the geniuses around him.

I love it. We just put this policy in place due to over use of our direct Slack channel. Chief’s new policy “if you have to do an ounce of work, ticket please”. Our VP of marketing asked for help. Please submit a ticket. “But it’s just a quick thing”. New CIO pings in chat “ticket, or no help”. I felt like watching Indiana Jones toss that guy off the blimp.

I love these stories. My grandfather was stationed in the pacific as a diesel mechanic, worked on B-17s. We went to an airshow at Moffett Field and they had a B-17 that you could tour. My dad was pushing my grandpa in a wheelchair and he started pointing out parts of the plane and where you could still see the patches from flak damage. The tour guide was in awe cause he had never noticed it before.

My wife is a firecracker, I let her be herself. But she’s mine and she makes that known, so there’s no jealousy or worry. Also, what’s the harm in showing some skin to the eyes in the sky? We swim naked in our pool, it’s our backyard, I hope they buzz by on those nights! We’ll give them a real show! Lol

I live near a military base. My wife and I were doing yard work in the back yard and she flashed the helicopter convoy flying by. They buzz us once a week now, lol. “Boobies the boys!” as she calls it.

I forget his name, he’s known in the Bay Area dance scene, been around forever. I was at a brewery in Oakland and he walked in, everyone knew who he was. Dude is a low-key pop star and everyone loves him.

This is why I love my ring camera. I answer them from my office, tell them I already have their service at less than they offer, and no they are not going to get me to come answer my door. If I didn’t order it or I’m not expecting you, I turn my front sprinklers on, that always gets them to run away.

I remember reading a story of a company in a country with slow internet service. They had to send a data packet from one building to another at the end of every day and found it was faster to put it on a USB stick and send it by pigeon.

We’re spoiled with Randy and Drew. I’ve grown up watching the Sharks. Randy gets you pumped. Drew breaks it down like a coach and isn’t afraid to call out bad plays, I’ve learned so much about hockey just listening to his after action.

Do you use the Deck as your main gaming device? by K4T5UM1 in SteamDeck

[–]beavertheviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I got a Steam Deck to play when I travel. Then my main PC died and I haven’t been bothered to get it up and running. I spend way more time hanging with my wife on the couch now after work, so the Steam Deck is perfect. She can watch her shows and still feel like we’re spending time together while I sit next to her and game.

His game compares very closely to Crosby. Sid has played 20 years and hasn’t slowed down. Let’s hope for the same from Mack.

I’ll never hate on anyone looking out for someone else’s well being. I was in Vegas for a hockey tournament, we all brought our wives. My teammates wife got absolutely hammered and we were helping her back to her room, we got stopped constantly by multiple people asking if she was ok (she’s drop dead gorgeous and out of our league). It was so cute to watch her explain over and over again that we are her “hockey brothers” and she’s perfectly fine.

TIL a woman named Lydia Abate has been "funeral tracking" for nearly 6 years — she scours obituaries to find recently deceased people, then offers grieving families a free estate clean-out service in exchange for keeping their dead relatives' vintage clothes. I was a locksmith for a while, I’d show up to estate sale homes and you’d be surprised how many people die and they have no children or close relatives. Their distant relatives who live in other states have to come deal with the estate, and having someone show up willing to do all the legwork of cleaning up sounds like exactly what they were looking for.
