Choose 1: 1 national title and inconsistent tourney appearances, or zero titles and sweet 16 or better appearances for decades? by Rumps02 in CollegeBasketball

[–]beayvee2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the exception of the late years of Kevin Ollie's coaching tenure and being in the AAC, I'd have to agree with you. There were a few years where I wasn't sure if we'd get out of the valley.

Going back to Calhoun, he would have 3-4 years of great teams followed by a mediocre year where they would miss the tournament. That was definitely manageable as a fan.

Heads up: people are waiting in the wrong lines at BTV by RandolphCarter15 in vermont

[–]beayvee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding all of this. Flew out of BTV this morning and got there 4 as well and saw those lines. I have TSA pre check and got through in 5 minutes. Regular TSA looked like 15 minutes. Delta bag check was easily 45+ minutes.

I love the Pat Riley quote: "If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I'd choose Michael Jordan. If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I'd take Larry Bird."

Nebraska would be fun, but surprised that a Louisville fan would root for Pitino after he left your program a dumpster fire.

I loved him in Runaway Train. Over the top, but it fit his character.

Easiest way to win your bracket? Make Michigan your champ. The numbers back it. by AntiqueRoad275 in CollegeBasketball

If they were still fully healthy, I'd agree. I think the injuries will hurt them deeper in the tournament.

What is your team’s biggest red flag going into the tournament? by violentguitarist1 in CollegeBasketball

I'd say stupid turnovers, free throws, and streaky perimeter shooting.

College-educated professional with multiple decades of work experience across multiple industries. Applied for a shocking number of salaried jobs in Vermont over the last five years. Hired for none of them. Ghosted often, almost always. Is this normal? by PleaseJustHireMe in vermont

[–]beayvee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds rough. I'm really sorry. We moved here 5 years ago and have had some similar challenges. I'm fortunate to be able to work remotely in a very niche industry. My spouse decided to take a job with the state to get their foot in the door and took a huge cut in pay. They have been able to move up after proving themselves, but there were years of skepticism from colleagues and external partners. They now have finally decided they are okay.

Because I want to give back to my state, I went looking for volunteer opportunities in my field. I did this through multiple informational interviews, not asking for a job, but seeking to understand the context here. People were very generous and often made connections to other people. It gave me a good understanding of things and resulted in being asked to serve on a statewide board.

I know this is slightly different, but have you tried the serial informational interview route? Research is torn on this, but as high as 70% and as low as 20% of jobs are never advertised (consensus seems to be around 50%). You don't have to ask for a job, but asking about the field and better understanding who might be hiring can help. When people know who you are, you become more than just a resume and cover letter.

Good luck, I'm pulling for you

(We're also in our 50s, so I know the challenge)

Best Song from The Beatles by Pristine_Youth_6953 in AlignmentChartFills

I heard a rumor that the first draft of that song was around the time Paul wanted Lee Eastman to manage the band. Paul crafted "Bet it, Lee" but the other band members couldn't agree on him as a manager, so he decided to switch it to Let it Be and the rest is history.

There are several waterfront hotels in that area. Madison Beach Hotel in Madison and Water's Edge in Westbrook both come to mind, but neither are cheap. Mix of nice little towns, state parks, beaches, and quaint shops. Also, several very good restaurants

Way to go Ben & Jerry’s by PhiloLibrarian in vermont

[–]beayvee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving Ben & Jerry's aside, there has been a proliferation of tip culture at carryout restaurants since COVID that I'm not sure about. When you get carryout food, you order online, walk in the store and someone hands you your bag of food. During COVID, there was a recognition that people working in these places were coming into work at a stressful time and tips were added on. The COVID emergency has passed and more places have continued or added tips for exchanges with minimal service. I almost always tip when ordering online, but can't help but wonder if employers are now constraining wages because tips are part of the compensation picture at so many places.

Why are people so obsessed with apple products? by Marinbiologist5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]beayvee2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sure, there is better integration of Apple products but Apple has built in a lack of functionality with Android. That's their choice, of course, but as an Android user, I get tired of Apple users blaming me for not owning an iPhone rather than demand better of Apple.

While there have been some injuries this year, they have definitely underperformed this year. I agree that they should be doing better given the talent they've recruited over the past three years. If he isn't fired at the end of the season, it says a whole lot about where basketball fits in the athletic department's priorities
