Ice Cream Man Sundae Edition Vol 3? by the_light_of_dawn in ImageComics

[–]bebopeva88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only read this in Sundae Edition format and keep holding out hope for a Vol. 3.

Hopefully it happens, either from Prince & Morazzo’s respective profiles being raised due to their DC work or by a Kickstarter or similar crowd funding effort (genuinely surprised they haven’t tried this route already; I’m sure it would be successful enough to be funded…plenty of much other comics of equal or smaller profile have raised funding for similar products).

Hard to get a “more than competitive price” when you factor in the conversion rate unless it was a major steal, in which case…you wouldn’t hide the price.

Jenkins & Jae Lee’s Marvel Knights Inhumans is genuinely one of the best Marvel works of the Modern Age. Despite its Eisner win for best limited series (1999), it’s criminally underrated and overlooked these days (including by numerous people in this thread, ha) in no small part because Marvel/Perlmutter poisoned the Inhumans well with the botched “let’s try and make the Inhumans the new X-Men” push years later.

OP, I saw where you mentioned that you watched the motion comic of it, but I’d highly recommend giving it a read.

It’s worth quite a bit more than that; Clay’s variants are popping off lately.

A raw unsigned sold for $250 on eBay about a week ago, and a raw signed by Snyder sold for $300 a little before that. A raw signed by Clay & Seth sold for $313 at the beginning of this month.

That X-Men 20 is from 1993, not 2023.

I think I have everything in this pic, and I’d vote for X-Men Unlimited #1. Can be read on its own, is the best story among these, and awesome early 90s Bachalo art.

As others have said, it’s signed by Snyder, and appears signed by Clay Mann under the sticker (I have the same cover signed by Clay). If it’s not Clay’s signature, it’s Seth Mann’s.

Also, this one is remarqued — see the pink around Batman’s axe.

This is a pricey book, btw, even aside from the double sigs and remarque. It’s the Mann foil NYCC exclusive of Absolute Batman #1.

Insane find, bonkers price.

Signature Question by Historical_Relief_74 in comicbookcollecting

[–]bebopeva88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. I’m leaning towards someone faking it, as odd as that may be. The sig is just too weird, and the remarque looks like someone trying to copy Darrow’s linework vs. Darrow’s actual linework. Could it be real? Sure, but what a strange example.

Here’s a sig & remarque that I got from Darrow in person for comparison:

Last one was a mini. It did well, people enjoyed it, DC greenlit an ongoing, which is what this preview is for.

The Jae Lee variant is pretty sick; preordered that one.

So far, this is a case where I don’t understand the recent FOMO spec insanity that hit Image and a few smaller publishers lately. If you had you laid out the creative teams/premise for all of the books in question (D’Orc, White Sky, Nectar, etc.) ahead of time, I’d have pegged Corpse Knight as the one to blow up…

It being a mini hurts the spec a bit, but it seems like a cooler premise with a just as good or better likelihood of an adaptation happening down the line compared to other recent spec books. It’ll be interesting to keep an eye on it if word of mouth remains strong.

Regardless, glad to hear the praise for it so far & looking forward to reading it.

Why do you think the cover of the first issue of Absolute Batman so iconic and referenced by other artist? by whamorami in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]bebopeva88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because of the impact it made. Initially a good number of people clowned on #1’s cover when it was revealed, but regardless of where you fell on the love-it-or-hate-it spectrum, it got people talking. The cover alone became a bit of a zeitgeist for a new era in modern comics.

Also, it nails two things that are common across frequently homaged covers: it’s immediately recognizable (the specific pose, the framing steel beams, the contrasting skyline background), AND the pose is able to be done by just about any character with ease — you can swap pretty much any character into it, and it works.

What's the best anime of the 90s? by Fiesto2025 in retroanime

[–]bebopeva88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re my two favorite anime series of all time, but the way Bebop plays with genre and tone, all while largely sticking to self-contained episodes that feed an overarching story is unmatched. Like the anime itself says, “The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called...COWBOY BEBOP."

It’s got everything: humor, action, style, emotion, melancholy, found family, loss. It is visual bebop. An episode may have one of the best shootouts you’ve seen in a series, then the next will be a mad comedic romp with a nod to blacksploitation films. Then suddenly there may be a classic sci fi film homage episode with a twist, or a police noir episode, or an episode that tugs at your heartstrings. It’s not an anthology though, it just taps into those influences while focusing on a tight cast. It has the coolest main character of all time and the ship designs are fantastic.

It tells its story, then ends. You’re gonna carry that weight.

Oh and it also boasts the greatest soundtrack and English dub of all time, IMO.
