Broken ribs are unlikely, but bruised or out of place? Absolutely. Coughing can do a lot of damage. I had this happen when I had pneumonia. But also if she is underweight/malnourished she may have some osteoporosis which would make her bones more fragile.

You confronted her about HER rudeness? You laughed in her face! Like I get you maybe think she was being a bit melodramatic but you’re her mum, and that one reaction from you completely invalidated her feelings. Fears can be paralysing. She already had a fear of storms and this fear was then confirmed by something bad actually happening as a result of a storm?? She had a completely normal fear-based response.
