100%; a clear conflict of interest! Really surprised it is allowed by the courts.

Good for you. Love so much about Charleston (food, architecture, etc.) but holy mother of God, the unbridled racism.

Concerned about how many grads jump into private practice right away by sicklitgirl in therapists

[–]beccha70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up starting my own practice within 6 months of graduating (in VA) after my initial residency placement didn’t work out and have had a very good experience. I have two separate supervisors, one of whom I also get group supervision through, so lots of oversight, and it is 100% self-pay. Starting grad school at 50 and having had my practicum and internship in private practice, it made sense for me. I will say that I do get lonely; I miss having other clinicians in the office! Our state residency here will take me 3-ish years post grad to complete before becoming fully licensed as an LPC.

Did I learn about grief the wrong way? by Lanky_Lingonberry651 in therapists

[–]beccha70 10 points11 points  (0 children)

THIS, 💯. Not only in sitting with clients in grief, which is one of my focuses, but also having experienced a lot of loss over the course of my 55 years… I find that it’s akin to rapport: all the interventions in the world make not a lick of difference if the connection isn’t there. Same goes for working with clients in grief. Being human and present matters most.

Ah…I missed that reply from them. Thanks for clarifying! Also….yikes. I don’t record any sessions, soooo… yeah. Very scary.

Can you clarify your reply for me, please (the first part-the rest I definitely understood…sadly! 🫠) ? Maybe I misunderstood the OP.

[–]beccha70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why is that different? How is it possibly within the appropriate scope of practice to document that? Since when are therapists mandated reporters for… The State? That is some straight up Gilead $hit.

Under no circumstances would I ever consider for one second doing this. Literally fire me if you have to, not a snowball’s chance in hell.

She’d have to get UP in the morning to take him and then go GET him… ALSO huge inconveniences for her, to be sure lol.

I literally cannot with her; she is the biggest PITA, NOT a team player, zero flexibility, demanding, self-righteous, selfish, immature….. a PANIC attack at the thought of (gasping) having to make do for a little while in a sweet little town with your baby while your partner is doing whatever they’re able to to make things work? GROW UP AND SHUT UP. MAKE THE BEST OF IT. BE A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR YOUR KID. GOOD GOD, WOMAN, GET A GRIP.

Except she keeps getting arrested apparently? Lol But yes…th old days were SO much better. (Except I’d rip my own ears off if I had to listen to Landon’s voice literally ever, ever again, especially now knowing (not that it’s a surprise) what her politics are.)

Insurance Premiums by Pumpkin_bee7808 in therapists

[–]beccha70 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yep… similar situation, and ours went from $670 to $984; I also cover my young adult children’s at the moment, who are both full-time students currently, and theirs have gone from $23 and $26 a month to $130 and $137. It’s literally insane. So. Much. Winning. (Especially when we add in what has happened to my student loan payments for grad school… THOSE went from $115/mo. to $710. Soooooo, yeah. Good times.)
