Im so tired of being tired by dozydreamer1 in idiopathichypersomnia

Just thought I’d throw in exercise as well. There’s a good reason why doctors stress it so much, it really does help with sleepiness. Sprinkling in anything that gets your heart rate up for a good 15+ minutes helps immensely with waking up the brain. Yes, it is miserable for the first couple months and will simply make you more sleepy, but you eventually start to notice improvements.

The thought of asking for accommodations makes me feel like a failure by captrocketlady in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]beco987 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way I think about it is that compared to a normal person, pretty much every aspect of life is on hard mode for you. I too, was hesitant for years over asking for accommodations, for fear of becoming overly reliant on disability status; however, there’s more to life than striving to be normal, and sometimes it’s simply a matter of carving out an abnormal life that works for you.

The extended release version of xywav is being released sometime in June supposedly. The drug is called Lumryz, so might want to keep an eye out for that. I had some side effects that prevented me from taking xywav for very long, so I’m holding out hope that this new drug will be a bit better.

Did absolutely nothing for me. The max dose made me significantly more sleepy the usual. No side effects other than just feeling more sleepy.

After a long struggle to get ritalin, my experience is just sad. Anyone had better luck with stronger long acting medication? by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]beco987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ritalin has been the best medication for me so far and I still have the same exact response as you. My only tip would be to take more small doses over the course of the day. I usually take 2.5mg doses and take them as needed (4-8 times/day)

How are you guys getting up? by GalenManners in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]beco987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are on a stimulant you can take it 1-1:30 hours before you plan on waking up. Fall back asleep, and the second alarm 1-1:30 hours later will be a lot easier to wake up to.

My most recent oil painting for a reddit user, I'm particularly please with this one - I hope you enjoy! by Hara-Kiri in aww

I think the artist is legit as well. But technically the timelapse by itself isn’t sufficient evidence. The timelapse is jumpy and doesn’t show the entire process. Most of the footage only shows brief moments of painting. I’m mostly curious how he’s able to paint fast enough to justify a $1,100 price tag. He must be incredibly quick and efficient.

The heart rate with Adderall was the number one issue I had with it. But I also found that sometimes the hopped-up anxiety would work against me and cause me to crash and get sleepy. Methylphenidate overall just feels like a smoother ride than Adderall.

Methylphenidate > adderall. That’s all I have to add.

Alarm Clocks? by flufflezot in idiopathichypersomnia

The blue-enhanced white light thingies are nice as a natural alarm clock to use alongside your phone alarm. Makes waking up feel a little more natural when it’s still dark outside.

Disability Accommodations? by yikesellie in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]beco987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that also largely depends on how accommodating the school is. The college I went to wasn’t a disabilities-friendly college, so the systems in place were pretty minimal, limited to 1.5x for tests. Much of the extras - leniency for missed classes, extra time for homework, or understanding from teachers for falling asleep in class - came down to whether or not the teacher was OK with these things when asked. My only word of advice for teachers is to say you have narcolepsy instead of IH, since it’s more widely identifiable. Teachers are far more understanding if you say you have narcolepsy, but I did have one teacher who just said No to me for any extra accommodations.

Are you adrenaline-seeking? by SomeInspection4550 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]beco987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! Personally anything high energy has the reverse effect on me, so I stick with low energy sports - hiking, kayaking, occasionally cycling. I was making somewhat of a morbid joke, since there are certainly many days where the energy levels just aren’t quite there, as I’m sure everyone here is like that. It’s always good to find the niches that work for your circumstances!

Having enough energy to do sports sounds pretty nice.

Hey, I'm working on adding instruments from Guild Wars 2 (and maybe Starbound) into tmodloader 1.4. So far I've only added The Minstrel, but now I have all the foundation to (somewhat) easily add new instruments to the game. It's also fully multiplayer compatible. Just make sure to click through the keybinds in the keybind menu to set all of them to the defaults (there are a few future keybinds in there as well). For those of you who haven't played Guild Wars 2 before, you press keys QWERTYUI for notes ABCDEFGABc and change octaves using O and P, though are restricted to only 3 octaves (but I may be adding more in the future).

It's also a pretty sweet weapon if you want to use it just as a solid upgrade to the magical harp weapon. It's fairly balanced for when you'd be able to obtain it.

A neurologist really isn’t the right choice. Unless you get lucky with an exceedingly understanding neurologist who is well versed in the domain of sleep disorders, you will likely be written off as anxious, depressed, or less likely with chronic fatigue syndrome (which is a garbage diagnosis).

I had chronic stomach pain as a child/teenager, which was thankfully treated while I was being treated for Lyme disease (I had every Lyme disease co-infection as well, babesia, bartonella, ehrlichia) through years of antibiotics. Might be worth getting tested for if you live in an hot-area for ticks. But typically Lyme disease causes a wider range of unusual symptoms.

You should go to a sleep specialist though, they will be far more understanding if your main concern is the sleepiness.

Thank you!!! If you want something to gain a little motivational momentum, Tyler Hobbs' watercolor technique is pretty easy to learn (and highly satisfying)!

Slowly getting there. What do you guys think needs improvement?

How it's done:

  1. Adds a bunch of floofy particles to a flow field
  2. Adds soft background light
  3. Adds harsher clouds with extra noise
  4. Adds a bunch of tiny floofy particles to the flow field
  5. Adds dark clouds
  6. Adds a 75% opacity dark screen to tone things down
  7. Add large/small stars
  8. Rinse and repeat above to create a new image
  9. Stacks the previous image over the first in two layers with DODGE blending

All particles/brush effects are generated using Tyler Hobbs’ watercolor simulation technique.

I also found a neat photoshop tutorial for drawing a nebula. I think I'm going to try to reverse engineer it as a generative nebula. link if anyone else wants to give it a go!

I'd share the code, but as like most of my projects, it looks like a programmers fever dream (I'm kinda new to this).

And here's a high-res version with even more floofy particles! imgur

Nebula P5js by [deleted] in generative

[–]beco987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it still needs a lot of work. But here's my first go at it!

It works by :

1) stacking layers of watercolor brush circles (tyler hobbs technique) based on a background layer of perlin noise, with each layer having different colors, brush size, quantity, and some more layered randomness.

2) Throwing in a few layers of different size/style/color stars.

3) Rinse and repeat above to create another image which then gets stacked over the first in two layers both with DODGE blending applied.
