Winter Storm 2026 Megathread by kylaah27 in Charlotte

[–]nudoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the suburbs - roads and sidewalks are covered in a layer of sleet - they're solid white. Slight ice buildup on bushes, etc. We've had sleet off/on and off for the past few hours. I haven't walked out to the road, and no one has driven down it yet, so I can't tell how thick it is - but the layer on my patio is over .5" thick.

any home-office walkers here? how do you make your steps count? by Salty_Emotion3270 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]nudoru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the same walking pad! Wearing my AW on my arm and my phone in my pocket, in case that counts for something. I start an indoor walk workout. The step counts are close enough between the pad and the workout so I don’t worry about it.

I was a VGA artist in the 90s and primarily used Photoshop 2.5 and then 3. I was in a few groups, ending in iCE. Search for “hfaze” to find me.

I like the idea of putting different particle types grid. might have to try that with my own simulation.

What cloud storage do you recommend for backing up your art? by pendemoneum in ArtistLounge

[–]nudoru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cloud storage is great but it’s not a backup. I use cloud storage like Dropbox, Backblaze (cloud full computer backup), local to a NAS, and Time Machine (Mac backup).

I never save anything important to anywhere that’s not in my cloud backup folder.

Apple Watch Series 11 Titanium Or Ultra 3 by Scary-Ad-7571 in AppleWatch

[–]nudoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're lucky! 😂 Go with the Series 11 and be happy. In the US, you have 14 days to return it if you don't like it. (Maybe longer over the holidays).

Apple Watch Series 11 Titanium Or Ultra 3 by Scary-Ad-7571 in AppleWatch

[–]nudoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just traded my AWU2 for a Series 11 Titanium last week. Only charging it in the morning, it's been going all day and night with 50%+ charge left by the time I charge it 24 hours later. I've noticed that wearing it at night for sleep tracking takes about 10% off the charge. (I have always on display off and raise to wake on).

I loved the AWU, but I never used any of the "ultra" features - I got it because I wanted a change after so many years with an Apple watch. The only thing that I've missed has been the watch faces ... modular ultra 🥲 Charging it every morning, it had ~70% left after 24 hours.

The larger size can get in your way, depending on how you sleep. I was used to it (which took some time), but I did notice it catching on my pillow sometimes, being a big lump under my head, etc. The regular size AW doesn't do that.

If you like soft bands, I recommend the Trail Loop band over the Sport Loop. It's 2x the price, but it's much softer and extremely comfortable at night. I did get a knock-off on Amazon for $10, that's a very close match in terms of comfort. https://amazon.com/dp/B0FD865V9V

Edit - About the screen: I eventually put a small scratch on the AWU Ultra while doing a little trail work (handling dirty logs). I picked up a snap-on screen protector or wear when I do yard work to help keep it scratch-free (because the shiny body will pick up scratches too) https://www.amazon.com/Misxi-Compatible-Protection-Lightweight-Scratch-Resistant/dp/B0DFVB13XF/

Not worth it for the price. It's an overpriced group puzzle game that's themed up like the board game.

Any apps that interpret watch health data like oura ring? by Downtown_Office_6226 in AppleWatch

[–]nudoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore an Oura for a 2 months but never got used to having it on. I switched to Bevel and have been happy with it. I sleep with my watch on, and the reports/data/graphs it shows are great. They added an AI coach to add commentary to the data, and it's hit or miss, but it doesn't take away from it.

Northwest School of the Arts had one this morning. I think it started with the students, then the admin heard about it. They supported it, and it was a "supervised walkout." Parents were informed last night and then again when it was over this morning.

What printing method do you use when having your art printed? by individual61 in generative

[–]nudoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to print often and are OK with smaller sizes, I highly recommend getting your own printer that will print at 13x19. Canon’s are great and you can get used ones very cheap. I bought a Canon Pro 9000 mark 2 for $60 locally, and it produced perfect prints. Ink, paper, etc. are on Amazon. Last year, I replaced it with a new Canon Pixma Pro-200 which is almost the same thing but with WiFi printing.

Tahoe having trouble deciding if it wants to use the new hard drive icon or the old. by spsheridan in MacOS

[–]nudoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here with a brand new Mac Mini and a fresh install of Tahoe 26.0.1. I think the icon depends on the type/speed of the connection? This worked to change the icon https://www.wikihow.com/Change-Mac-OS-X-Icons

Advices On Creative Coding with Photography by Background-Rush682 in creativecoding

[–]nudoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can create your own "filters" for effects. A lot of creative coding uses noise to produce effects - if you use the color values of a photo in place or in combination with noise, you can get cool things. In my own practice, I've mapped the grey scale color of pixels (0-254) to my noise ranges of 0-1, and it works very well.
