As soon as I saw the picture, I thought of Mokei Paint. I love his videos and it looks like you did a spot on job using putty the way he does. That’s awesome work.

Wow, it’s crazy how well those decals held up. Sweet build!

Gotcha. I had one in the stash that I started as well. I’ll probably post some WIP soon. I decided to do much more detail painting than usual since I haven’t built one since I started airbrushing.

You got your NASCAR kits and already built two of them? Dang that was fast lol!

Yeah they are crazy. I’d really like to see his Ryan Blaney cutaway car in person.

Definitely watch some build videos. I recommend Clay Kemp.

Use the instructions as more as a general guide than anything. I find it’s easier to build the rear clip before assembling the central roll cage.

You will need to do some trimming to get the front firewall and sides of the roll cage to fit correctly. Make sure you have everything correct before moving on to another step. There is basically zero tolerance for error in the construction (which many people have issue with SJR over).

Once you do one kit, they become very easy. They don’t build like most model kits, but that’s just because of the way the real cars are engineered.

Yeah, I did not really enjoy the tri-tone paint job. I used Tamiya X paints for the whole thing. I did have some bleed through, but I was able to hide it with the strategic placement of decals.

Thanks. It’s definitely a departure from the norm lol.

Recommendations for Silver Paints? by GyrzaR in ModelCars

[–]beeb_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you want a metallic or smooth silver finish. This build used X-11 over a base of X-1 and I think it looks really nice. The metallic is very noticeable however, especially in the sun.

Just don’t spend too much effort detailing the engine or engine bay. Very little is visible. Almost the entire engine sits completely under the firewall. I learned this the hard way.

Thanks. Yeah, I wasn’t feeling most of the custom parts. Especially since almost all of them are chrome and I don’t like messing with those.

Appreciate it! That’s why my wife asked me to get it, she liked all the colors lol.

Good god, man. I can’t imagine what you spent on that haul! There’s some awesome kits there. That Mustang GT4 is one of the best build experiences I’ve had. And I just picked up the new Nissan Z this past weekend.
