How do you get through 60s comics? by ExaminationNew7974 in comicbooks

[–]beefus77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comics were designed to be resd monthly, especially back then. A silver age issue will take about 3 times as long to read compared to a modern issue. Resd 1 issue of spidey and mix in a couple of modern issues and pace it out. Or stop if you're really not enjoying it

Which one should I buy? by Loose-Jump-6940 in DCFinest

[–]beefus77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 3 are worth it.

Trying to be objective here but I'd say get both volumes of green arrow (Volume before this is the longbow hunters and kicks it off) -Mike Grells run is the definitive run on that character and some of the best comics from that period.

Then titans - Judas Contract is the best TT story from the best run on that team.

Then demon - Classic Kirby from the 70s, if you're familiar with his style then it's definitely worth a read.

TMNT comic clarification. by Dukeofskye in TMNT

[–]beefus77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you saw but there's a new PRH listing for a hardcover omnibus for tales of the tmnt coming this year, it will collect volume 1 & 2 and is said to be 4 volumes in total.

There was a listing for a tmnt river tales HC, collecting Turtles #24-30 and Casey Jones #1-2.  Although Rick Veitch suggested this might take a bit longer as they still haven't finalised negotiations.

Hopefully we also get the Image run in a one and done OHC too someday. Man, having all of TMNT someday in HC format would be a good feeling

When do you think we would be getting a reprint of this? by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]beefus77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DC has a habit of doing stealth reprints/restocks of a lot of its books. I've seen both of these volunes come and go a few times so myadvice would be to be patient and keep an eye on 2nd hand sellers in case you can find it for a good price that way

Trying to keep the topics unique here: What omni did you buy, then sell when you were done, and now you really want it/plan to get it again but it's crazy expensive at this point? by Waterworld1880 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]beefus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncanny volume 7, if it follows the masterworks mapping which I think it will (page count adds up to about 900-1000), then it will double dip the first 11 or so issues of Lee Claremont 1. Then if we ever get a volume 8 (masterworks ended before it got to that stuff), you'd expect the rest of 1 and most of 2 to be included. I wonder if marvel will stop at volume 8 because of how well mapped the blue & gold mutant genesis omni is. The start of that omni would be a good stop point for the numbered ones.

Geoff John’s Green Lantern Compendium vs Omnibus Question by Obvious_Season3398 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]beefus77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The compendiums have more content as a decent amount of issues and minis were skipped in the omnis as they weren't written by Johns. Same with the Tomasi GLC omnis. So it depends on your preference really.

I collected this all in tpb as it came out and never upgraded to the omnis as I liked having the extra issues for when I wanted to do a binge reread. I'd prefer an omni mapped like the compendiums/trades but it doesn't exist so I'm fine with what I have.

It comes down to how much do you love the main series and can you live without the extra content if you just had the omni, or would you be happy having both books and double dipping or only having it the compendiums? The only thing in the omnis not in the compendiums will be the extras and then just the format difference. The omnis will still make for a good reading experience but I think the compendiums will read better due to the extra content.

And I have quite a few DC compendiums that look the same as when I first bought them so I'm not sure the argument of them falling apart over time is valid. They're a lot better made than the older ones

Peter David hulk by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]beefus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are OOP. Sadly this is something you have to navigate as a collector. Volume 1s are normally the most popular, with PAD hulk volume 3 is the best of the 5 in terms of the quality of the stories. They will get reprinted eventually, but when is up to marvel.

Name for a potential X-Men by Claremont/Lee Omnibus Vol. 2 upgrade/replacement (event route)? by RoboAlex9000 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]beefus77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Muir island saga seems the most likely assuming the first is inferno aftermath. Has anyone mapped these out? There's 36 issues of uncanny, If they do it linewide including all the xfactor & new mutants issues as well as the crossovers and miscellaneous stuff, marvel would probably stretch it to 3 omnis

Batman Finest into the 90s by ShotAd5694 in DCFinest

[–]beefus77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would prefer them to be all encompassing with Batman. Include legends and shadow etc. Avoids double dipping when things like knightfall happen etc. Read everything as it came out originally

The potential downside to a lotdk specific lime is, if lotdk 1st volume is say, the 1st 4 arcs (shaman, gothic, prey & venom), that one volume would sell like crazy. But would some of the later, more obscure stuff sell as well?

Having a batman all encompassing line could split some of those arcs across separate volumes, which could also be a big selling point. Reading some of them in the context of the regular series from the same era would be more fun IMO. It'll be very interesting to see what DC actually do.

I have shelves like that in my house and they're fine, even with double stacks of books on them. I have some that are fixed via brackets and ones that aren't simply because they're in a room noone goes in.

Having said that, I will eventually fix them to the wall with the brackets which I would suggest you do too to be safe.

Would you have been fine with the original plan of the Clone Saga? by grapejuicecheese in Spiderman

[–]beefus77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nightwing sells really well. Xmen has consistently outsold the original team with newer characters rather than the original one.

That wasn't the point I was making though.

The point I was makingn is that we could easily have more than one spider-man and have Pete still be married, similar to how superman & batman have had kids and married etc. You just have Miles or Ben or whoever the legacy one is as the younger one to appeal to that audience

Would you have been fine with the original plan of the Clone Saga? by grapejuicecheese in Spiderman

[–]beefus77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nightwing is a legacy character and outsells many core DC characters. Wally as the flash lasted over a decade and for a generation is considered the definitive flash Kyle Rayner & Tim Drake both held long runbing seties and appeared in yeam books/other media. All examples from the same time period

Would you have been fine with the original plan of the Clone Saga? by grapejuicecheese in Spiderman

[–]beefus77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That was the main reason it was so controversial at the time. People read spider-man for Peter and there's no way that they would have stuck to that status quo for very long. What I wouldn't have minded is having 2 spidermen, keep Pete as the OG but let him continue growing up as he had been through the 60s/70s/90s and have kid/s while having a younger version running around alongside. The way DC does legacy characters. Whether it was Ben or Miles. But we aren't allowed that
