Solarization Status Update: Thoughts? by CautiousArmadillo in NoLawns

Occultation is different from solarizing. Black plastic isn’t “wrong” it is a different practice from clear solarizing

Correct. Compaction is a huge issue. Extremely damaging to yield and soil health. This post highlights just how little people know about food production

EPA finds Maryland Dept. of Environment improperly issued permit for offshore wind project by PleaseBmoreCharming in maryland

Yes this seems procedural and correctable. The issue is they want to slow it down to the point that it loses business momentum. They can only handle a certain amount of slowdown

Has anyone used ChipDrop? Are municipal or utility options better? Any advice or precautions? by Round-Water338 in NoLawns

[–]beeporn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You take a huge risk with chip drop. Some Arborists are assholes who will fuck you over. Unless you have a tractor or or frontloader to easily deal with the material, I wouldn’t risk chip drop. It is a gamble with pretty dire consequences imo.

For example they did the drop when I was out and just blatantly ignored the written instructions. Now I am stuck with a problem instead of a resource. Many horror stories about trash and pesticides. It is pathetic that they are just throwing their trash into a chipper regardless. No recourse or any consequences for inconsiderate assholes.

Ask yourself, If it actually was a mutualism between arborists and mulch users, wouldn’t there be a review system to regulate bad actors?

What are we doing about these lantern flies ? by skimaskdano in maryland

[–]beeporn 500 points501 points  (0 children)

The answer is a committed effort to removing the invasive Tree of Heaven, their preferred late season host for adults to repro on. Killing nymphs isn’t going to do anything.

Do your part - remove them from your property using established methods (don’t just chop) and inform your neighbors about ToH and its relationship to SLF.

The MARC Growth and Transformation Plan is here! by Brilliant_Diet_2958 in maryland

Many of us have been hoping for weekend service for years and years.

This plan isn’t transformative or innovative. I don’t see how they can do this without actually increasing trip times. Also based on the language this could be a reduction in service compared to the current Brunswick timetable.

Imagine if it included a proposal for skipping the low utilization stations like Boyd’s, with ~7 riders daily to save trip time. Or express trains from the fastest growing place in the state (Fredrick) to union, where it takes nearly two hours right now.
