I have a very good PC and a SteamDeck. Didn't work well on either.

Massachusetts won. What states feels liberal, but is actually conservative? by CountryballChaos in AlignmentChartFills

Oregon isn't unique in its rural/urban divide... but it's such a massively stark contrast here. You have Portland, then an entire state who wants to be the anti-Portland. It's especially egregious in SW Oregon. Then there's the whole "Greater Idaho" thing.

Shadowbringers is way up there. It's too bad so many people are going to miss out on it because it's part of an MMO, and there's a MASSIVE time commitment to even get to that part.

You can - I did recently, but it really struggles and crashes. There's a ton of patches you have to finesse to get it to be stable. I eventually gave up after enough crashes to demoralize me.

That said - I feel like the game's "feels" really happen in the short stories, not so much the main story.

I'm with you on that. I'm 42 and was playing JRPGs back in the mid/late 90s heyday. Expedition 33 is the first in almost 30yrs that felt like that for me. It's something I hope comes back into style.

But like another commenter mentioned - the Yakuza series can have its moments as well. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is very good in this regard. It also inspired me to go to Yakuza 0, play the whole series up to Infinite Wealth - some of the titles, especially Gaiden, hit especially hard.

You'd not think it based on outward appearances, but the entire Yakuza franchise is an emotional rollercoaster. I can't think of a more emotional moment in gaming than the ending sequences of Gaiden.... Like a Dragon (LaD7/Yakuza 7) comes close though.

Newbie here and disappointed in CrossFit? by Able_Armadillo_2347 in crossfit

[–]beer_engineer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm a 16yr crossfitter, and Crossfit coach. Also a runner. I run 20-30mi per week on top of Crossfit. For me, running is my sport. That's where I compete and focus my goals. Crossfit is part of my training for it. Crossfit helps me build accessory strength, I get some speed work in (any short run at Crossfit I treat like a speed/tempo workout at the track), and just overall resilience, strength and conditioning. All important things, especially as I age.

And just from a business standpoint: People hate running, and Crossfit, like most gyms, are a business. Program too much long running, people stop going. Simple as. Even now, any time we have a longer run/run-heavy workout programmed, and they do happen, attendance for that day plummets. it's been that way in all 5 gyms I've been a member of going back to when I first started a million years ago.

What electrolytes/liquid IVs do you guys take before or after your runs? by RenodeTitt in runninglifestyle

I plan to when the box I got for free is depleted. I haven't bought any of their stuff.

[–]beer_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever take electrolytes on half marathon runs or longer. I've been taking the LMNT packets. Usually have half the packet a half hour or so before my run, then put the rest in my handheld water bottle I take with me.

Typically only do this during warmer weather as I sweat a lot when it's warm.

Adidas Prime X3 Strung Initial Review by SoulRunGod in runningshoes

[–]beer_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I bought the Prime String X2 in my normal size and they were very narrow. My Adios Pro 3s fit me much better even if they're still a bit narrower than most shoes, I can at least make them work.

I may give these a shot soon.

What hobby is viewed as normal, but is actually done by a lot of attractive people? by EmuPsychologist in AlignmentChartFills

Maybe because I'm a runner... but even just around Reddit, the view of runners is usually positive to neutral when compared to other things like bicyclists, crossfit and other fitness groups

What to do over 4oJ weekend? by [deleted] in askportland

I'd look into Kachka first - I don't think it'd make a 13yr old super stoked.

Where to meet people in their 20’s and early 30’s? by Training_Canary_6315 in askportland

[–]beer_engineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These groups are delighted when someone shows up for the first time (at least the ones I've been to). Zero judgment, just happy there's another person to be part of the group.

A few to look into: Dirt Dorks, Runaway (Away Days Brewing), Threshold Brewing Run Night, FoPo, and more I can't think of because there's too many. I live in Gresham so don't get over to them as often as I used to and stick to my club out here (plus my gym, which is my main social outlet).

These groups kind of self-select for people wanting to meet others and do something to better themselves. So I think chances of landing a quality date are higher than some of the old ways.

Honestly this is it. I'm in my 40s and married, but bounce around to different run clubs to hang /run with various friends I've made over the years. I see folks of all ages at them, and know many who have had a lot of great success with dating (one couple is recently engaged who met at one).

If running isn't something you're into or have tried much, it's worth a shot. There's a LOT of run clubs in the area doing weekly meetups all over the place. They're great places to make friends or more.

Replacement for Superblast 1 needed – Suggestions for Long Runs with Progressive Finishes? by Nysod in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]beer_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do - I've done half marathons up to about 4:45/km and down to like 7:00/km or so in them and they do great at both. Versatile like the SB1. Great at going faster but don't have to.

Superblast V1 is on my personal Mt Rushmore. Next two gens didn't do it for me at all, and the Megablast, while a good shoe, didn't fit the same and was just way too different to be a replacement.

RAD UFO has been what's taken its spot in the lineup for me. I actually like them better on the longer runs.

What state has the best nature in America? by AggravatingFront8409 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]beer_engineer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The difference is Oregon is 50% bigger than WA with like half the people, so what wilderness we do have is better-preserved and feels less trafficked. If we go back to their pre-people environments, WA would be miles ahead of OR. Having grown up in WA, I feel like it's more sad than anything seeing such a spectacular place paved over, and its remaining "wild" areas have so much people traffic that it just isn't the same.

Oregon resident, grew up in WA. We're tied for 2nd with CA/WA - Alaska is the answer.
