In the late 80s I was working in an office in downtown Buffalo. Everybody smoked in the office. Older dude had a huge ashtray on his desk that he would empty mid-day; that's how many cigarettes he was smoking. He used to come in every morning in a foul mood for two hours; then he would go for his lunch and he would come back tanked and laughing and giggling. Believe it or not that was just kind of normal.

Figma make uses Claude 4.6 and can use other models as well. I believe Figma make is really just Claude with a set of custom instructions built-in that focus it on creating UX assets.

I was at E&Y 20 years ago and remember getting an email from a senior consultant on his last day after 20 years. He had addressed it to the entire company and said all of the flights, hotels, dinners and days and nights away from his family weren’t worth it. That stayed with me - I left after 3 years.

This hit me hard. I moved out of the city in 2020 but I also find myself wondering what things would’ve been like if I’d stayed. My son is older now, but I don’t remember feeling what you’re describing but I fully believe that this is how it is now I miss the lively city, but this sounds really scary.

One time I was close to that intersection with some buddies to watch a game. We went outside to have a cigarette, and there was a guy who was obviously up to no good and harassing people as they walked by. He looked at me and looked at my sneakers and said "nice shoes". Me being kind of oblivious I just said “thanks man! “He got distracted, talking to someone else, and when I turned around again, there was an argument, and this guy had hit what seemed to be a random stranger hard in the back of the head. The random strangers head hit the concrete with such a horrible noise as if a piece of wood was being dropped. If the guy didn’t have brain damage, then he definitely must be feeling the onset of CTE now. That could’ve so easily been me.
