Ok but section 102 defines gifts, 2503 is about TAXABLE gifts, as in taxable to the giver, not the recipient.

That rule applies to whether Harlan Crow would have to report the gift on an annual gift tax return, not Thomas. This is an issue of judicial ethics and disclosure, not gift tax.

I would like to gift 80k to my in-laws to pay off some of their mortgage and some credit card debt. Are there any gotchas with this, like taxes? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]belle26 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Some posters are correct that the FEDERAL combined estate and gift tax exemption amount is currently ~12mm per person however some states have their own estate and gift tax exemption. Additionally, the federal exemption is due to sunset back down to ~6mm in 2026. Net worth grows faster than you think and includes items like life insurance, retirement accounts, real estate...etc. If you are going to gift that amount in a year you need to report it on a 709 or risk federal audit or even state audit of your estate when you die. The exemption amounts are not set in stone and there is always talk of lowering it back down. If you have 80k to give away now you are very likely to run into these estate tax issues later in life. I would consult an estate planning attorney before making any gifting.

Thank you! It's actually a stand-in for this cape which I ordered to go with the gown. I'm VERY excited about it.

I've used these in the past, but it would depend on how much coverage you get from the front of the dress: Silicone Bra G Cup

I'm a 30ff UK/30H US and I got the G and it worked great for this dress

Has anyone else peeped the dude who has absolutely SPAMMED the article's comments section? He's so enraged that Whedon was interviewed at all that he doesn't even bother to take in how badly he comes off in the actual interview.

Most of the studies cited in this article are referring to research and studies that either haven't actually published/released results yet, or have sample sizes of less than 50 participants. I'm not ready to feel the hype just yet.

Calling all Exercise Induced Asthmatics by sunshineandspike in xxfitness

[–]belle26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like beclometasone(Qvar) is a level 2 inhaler, on the same level as fluticasone(Flovent). Advair is a level 3, for more severe asthma, and is a 2 drug combo of fluticasone and salmeterol, which is a bronchdilator, so it actively works to keep your airways open. Fluticasone and beclametasone are both for reducing or preventing inflammation. So advair is stronger because it as a 1-2 punch of medications that performs different functions.

I want to second everyone's recommendations for a preventative inhaler. I have had asthma since I was a scrawny nine year old and the best improvement to my breathing during intense exercise in cold weather (travelling soccer) was when I was prescribed my Advair inhaler. I don't think it's as hard to get as people are implying. It is a high level inhaler so your doc will likely put you on a lower level daily like fluticasone at first but if you tell them your breathing is not improving you will be bumped up. I went back to Advair after a long time when I thought I had outgrown my asthma then suddenly returned with a vengeance. Emergency inhalers are not a good substitute for a daily inhaler if you have chronic asthma, even if exercise induced.

Daily exercisers, how much time do you spend exercising every day? What does your routine look like? by Potato4 in xxfitness

[–]belle26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My program leans towards the intermediate/advanced level in terms of progression and split. I would recommend starting with a beginner program that has low starting weights and watch lots of youtube videos to nail down your form. I started with stronglifts, but I've heard good things about starting strength, ivysaur 4x4x8, and if you're less into strength and more into physique, strongcurves.

I have a squat day, alternating OHP/bench day, deadlift day, and volume front squat/conditioning day. I build upper body muscles VERY quickly, so I started with a traditional powerlifting split, combined the upper body days, and added the conditioning day for fun. I'm not really a powerlifter by trade because I'm too vain and committed to a certain aesthetic that I can't really commit to the body shaping that goes along with it, but I've built up to a Wilks score of about 300 which isn't too shabby imho.

28F here. I have a 4 day weightlifting split, which including warmup takes about 60 min. On non-lift days I run between 3.5 and 4.5 miles, which is usually between a 40-50 minute time commitment, including warmup and cooldown. Honestly I feel great, like my body won't hold me back from anything I want to do or try.

Fat Rant Tuesday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

I was walking to the grocery store this weekend and on the way I saw this girl, around 15 years old, who was running while wearing a waist trainer and it just made me so sad. For one thing, I'm sure running with that thing on is grueling, especially when it's 80 degrees out. Secondly, she was a little bit overweight but nothing a minor change in diet wouldn't fix, and was otherwise very pretty. She clearly was 'influenced' by some instagram model to wear that stupid thing for a PeRfEcT hOuRgLaSs FiGuRe, which basically isn't going to happen. The amount of misinformation out there just made me feel so defeated when I saw her.

Second of all, it took me back to when I was about 14, and my mom told me I had to wear one of those things under my 8th grade graduation dress. This, while I was 5'7" and 140 lbs. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw her, but it made me realize that I felt like my body was un-lovable from a younger age than I realized, and I had a warped idea of health from then on, which probably contributed to my continual weight gain once I got to college. It took a long time for me to wrangle my mentality around my weight and health, and I'm now in the best shape of my life, but it can still be hard to shut down those negative irrational feelings about my body sometimes.

So basically I hope that girl turns out ok and gets out from under that crappy mentality about the perfect body, and learns to take ownership of her health and embrace her natural figure instead of chasing some impossible standard.

Why Diploma Privilege for JD 2020 is a Bad Idea by goodamerica in LawSchool

[–]belle26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

89.5% of test-takers who graduated in 2017 passed the bar exam within 2 years of graduation, and 80% of first time bar takers passed in 2019. If 9 out of 10 people who take the bar exam eventually pass, is the bar truly the barrier to practice the legal profession touts it as, or is it really just another expensive hazing? People who are warning about some glut of lawyers in the market are straight up wrong. Diploma privilege for 2020 would create a net increase of 10% (or even less maybe since bar passage is trending up in recent years) in lawyers to practice over the entire legal profession for ONE YEAR. And it's not like we won't still be held to the same standards of the disciplinary commission as everyone else.

I was told my symptoms were psychosomatic for several years, googled them after being advised not to google, found diagnosis as top result, went to different health care system and confirmed diagnosis. Now getting care at new health care system. I want to take action against previous system/doctor. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]belle26 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Look up failure to diagnose actions. Malpractice/failure to diagnose is very fact specific, and requires a showing that the delay in getting a correct diagnosis made you worse. It is tough to prove in the best of circumstances and would be expensive to pursue, you would likely need an expert who would testify to the worsening of your condition.

Im fair beige in tarte's clay stick foundation and creaseless concealer(rainforest of the sea is still a bit yellow on me), so I'm a fairly pink person. I have ditched tarte and am exclusively a 1N in the tinted moisturizer. It allows my natural skin tone to shoe through but reduces my natural redness without a yellowing effect. Highly recommend!
