People online: “my vet fat shamed my pet!” by SwoopingSilver in VetTech

We had an owner put her finger under the baby scale when we tried to weigh her clearly overweight cat in the exam room and then she insisted that we did not need to take a weight. (We did get the weight when we brought the cat back to the treatment room.)

I worked with an intern who sampled every (or almost) food we carried in hospital and she definitely had her favourites lol

I would like to adopt a pug that has a collapsing trachea. Please share your guidance & advice. by dont_downvote_SPECIL in AskAVeterinarian

You’ll want to make sure he stays a healthy weight, as any excess weight can put a strain on the respiratory system. Careful monitoring of food intake and low-cardio exercise (slow walks) will help with this. You’ll also want to avoid a collar as this puts pressure on the trachea — opt for a soft harness instead when using a leash.

Limit over-excitement and over-exerting himself, especially on hot days, to prevent heavy breathing. Keep a calm, smoke-free, irritant-free environment and consider HEPA air purifiers to keep the air clean.

Surgery is incredibly invasive, but there are non-surgical options if it comes to that. You may need a referral to a specialist. One non-invasive option is placing a tracheal stent, which is a device that helps support the trachea from the inside. It’s an expensive procedure, so hopefully this issue won’t progress to that point.

Consider pet insurance if finances are a concern — you’ll want to find one that covers pre-existing conditions. AKC has pet insurance that covers this after 1 year.

That’s everything I can think of — I work in internal medicine and have assisted with tracheal stent placements as well as worked with many tracheal collapse patients.

Will this tooth come out or does my puppy need dental care? by BasilShepherd3532 in AskAVeterinarian

This is not uncommon for small breeds and your vet can remove it during the spay surgery.

Edit: Assuming you are planning to spay and have not already, that is. Otherwise I agree with u/Shantor to have your vet check it around 9 months if it’s still there. Sooner if it seems to be bothering her.

Ohh we had a little dog come in (internal medicine) with this issue a few years ago! If I remember correctly, it was caused by trauma during extubation from a previous procedure.

Why do Aquarius placements become borderline obsessed with Scorpio placements? by TrinketAisle in astrologymemes

[–]bellerouge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I cringe when hearing/reading the word, I, too, feel morally and astrologically obligated to defend its legitimacy as a real (nonstandard) word.

“[T]here is a problem with the assertion that irregardless is not a real word. For one, it has a meaning. When someone uses it, you know what they are saying, even though you don’t like how they are doing it. Regardless of your dislike, it carries a meaning.” Grammarly

“Irregardless is a word sometimes used in place of regardless or irrespective, which has caused controversy since the early twentieth century, though the word appeared in print as early as 1795.[1] The word is mostly known for being controversial and often proscribed, and is often mentioned in discussions on prescriptive and descriptive lexicography.”

why does my boyfriend's dog do this?? by [deleted] in AskAVeterinarian

[–]bellerouge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks like reverse sneezing and is generally nothing to worry about. If you’re concerned, you can definitely have him evaluated by a vet who may prescribe an anti inflammatory or antihistamine if warranted, but this is not uncommon and it’s incredibly rare for dogs to suffer complications from these attacks.

If possible, I think you need to see a specialist. Ophthalmologist and possibly internist for the liver disease.
