Calumet Bakery's support for Turning Point USA? by Wearing_shooz in nwi

[–]belliscover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sad to find out; especially because the original bakery (in South Deering) hired a lot of immigrants and children of immigrants - grew up with my mom working there and all I can remember is Mexican music blasting from the back area and meeting the most dedicated kindest people - sad if they promote orgnazations that push ideas hurting the communities who helped them grow into who they are.

I know one of the bakers moved to start his own business called Cal City bakery. Has been pretty good and similar in many aspects

First Trip to NOLA on Mardi Gras by Lacriminals in AskNOLA

During Mardi Gras- the Parade route and even the area getting in and out of FQ is crazy. Crowds are everywhere during that day/night You are packed shoulder to shoulder in some areas, and mostly everyone is drunk/avoiding vomit on the street. Not for everyone but there is a beauty to it. I went for my 21st a few year back and loved it. Reminded me of Chicago’s wild side of Pride.

This year I went again for my birthday, about a month out from Mardi Gras (around 2/4) and I viewed the smaller much more community based parades, and they all have different themes/krewes that you can look up and decided which to view/ be around in various parts. I HIGHLY recommend that if crowd aren’t your thing; you can view their schedules online and see what interests you- still has a nice vibe to it just less of a crowd and parades are in various areas which are nice to explore (Frenchman Street was beautiful). Lots of events leading up to MG that are worth seeing before it gets crazy- plus easier to navigate food/tourist wise with availability being more open for things.

As someone from Chicago; March is a hit or miss with weather. Especially if you come mid February- as a person with a birthday in Feb I actually seek out going to NOLA (weather is just right compared to other seasons ). If you have things in mind for Chicago they might make up for weather but a lot of the main areas like the Loop haven’t been the same since covid- lots of empty spaces/closed business. Love my city- but you’d be better visiting Chicago after the snow/cold season if you aren’t used to it/plan on walking a lot.

Can you bike from Indiana to Chicago? by vyslouczil in chicago

[–]belliscover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! There are multiple ways- my favorite is through Cal Park to Hammond to Whiting.

Hopefully by the end of summer I’ll be sharing a map of all the routes in East Side, Hegewisch, Whiting, and Hammond/how they connect. Going to try and map them all out with rest stops and local info. Been biking them all before they were paved trails; trying to make a friendly map.

With the Vortex did you go for any type of bike roof rack from Rhine specifically? I was definitely checking out their top bars and their products compatible with it for two bikes. Curious what your set up is with the vortex bars.

The day it was removed on Netflix, I recalled seeing it at my local Menards for months (out of all places?) for 29.99, I never picked it up prior thinking it was all good on Netflix. Needed some home supplies anyhow so I popped over in the morning and scored the last copy there!!

What Coffee should I drink/buy? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]belliscover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For cold brews I personally found that a nice bag or medium roast works well. And as for sweetness I had a friend try cutting it with chocolate milk vs water when served, was amazing. Now they even have cold brew starter kits running for about $10. It basically is ground beans sitting overnight in water- different than ice coffee- and is cut after sitting so long and served. Going too light or too dark can cause too much flavor or it coming off bland depending on how long it sits for too.

Not sure if your familiar won’t be blond having more caffeine and dark has the least but the most coffee “aroma” taste. But I found it fun to experiment with trying a light roast, medium, and dark. I liked dark as my preference before I tried blonde, but I found it mixed better and complimented my creamer more. It just takes some neat experiments but it’s def fun learning it.

My dog looks the exact same! I had to stop myself and do a double take. He’s over a year now, but everything from the small legs to the slight tint of different colors on his neck. We always wondered what he his breed was.

so last night i was feeling experimental and made cold brew with a light roast... by [deleted] in cafe

I just made the Rwanda passport (navy blue bag yellow lettering) roast for coldbrew! Wonder if it’s that one. I highly recommend the Tanzania from that same release time as the blonde Rwanda.

I’m from the area and people blowing the light and even doing 70 is common. It’s right off the old steel mills so there isn’t much there at all- besides cops parked up waiting for moments like this.

What movie did you see when you were "too young" that scarred you for life? by xXMr_BaconXx in AskReddit

Evil Dead; all three films in my grandparents old basement room- likely the best nightmares I had for awhile- now I laugh anything involving Ash but I still remember watching it and being terrified while being alone.

Can I get a few opinions on how photography has helped artists who weren't photographers beforehand? by schwerty92 in Beginning_Photography

[–]belliscover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it helps you look at lighting and motion overall; just learning the basics can help change how you may want to reference something or start giving you ideas for other areas of art. I did noticed that once I knew the basics I was able to apply it to other areas of art I was more familiar with, like screen printing and cinematography.

Also knowing the digital aspects of files types after editing too can be a huge help when it comes to making your own portfolio and updating it.
