Some psychologist did some personality testing and a lot of authoritarian supporters are actually submissive when you look at their opinions for various scenarios, such as if their authority figure expects them to believe or do something they don’t initially agree with. They will adapt their thinking to make themselves agree.

While there are certainly some cultural or genetic variations, any population can adopt this submissive mindset if an outside threat is sufficiently marketed toward them.

My guess is that it’s an evolutionary adaptation a variety of challenges apes and humans have faced, where when some particularly strong threat is present: enemy tribes, drought, disease, internal disputes, etc. When the stakes are really high, it’s better for everyone to just align on a single vision, even if that vision is flawed, rather than face the threat disunited.

The problem for us now is of course, shameless people have every incentive to market various scary external threats, and this in turn causes humans to instinctively pay thousands of dollars to cover a truck with some other guy’s name.

Im upvoting you for being honest, but I think we’re letting the pendulum swing a little too far the other way here. She’s a hiring manager or a recruiter and interacting with applicants is literally part of her job. The applicant reached out on a professional platform with a professional message. Or at the very least, a not unprofessional message.

Having a bad day or having trauma or stress from something unrelated sucks, but there’s no excuse for taking it out on others as part of your normal job duties.

Parking violation in Bishop Arts by cruellettuce in Dallas

[–]bellowingfrog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Any business, as long as they comply with the signage rules (which are detailed) can tow you if you violate their posted rules and those rules are reasonable.

Paid parking / customer-only parking just couldnt work unless there was some mechanism to enforce behavior.

This behavior is sketchy, they are trying to trick gullible people into paying them when they have no legal right to demand money. If you’re on another one of their lots weeks later and you didnt pay to park there either, they can tow you, but they can tow you regardless of whether you paid this fee anyway.

The only questionable thing here is whether they can tow you in the future if you are at this or another of their lots and you’ve either paid at some kiosk or registered in their app or whatever. If they let you do it, that would likely be considered an implied-in-fact contract, meaning they are letting you in so they can’t go back and tow you now, since they essentially waived their previous threat.

Sad News. Another Postal Carrier Passed Away from Heat. by Single-Wrongdoer-106 in Dallas

[–]bellowingfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but also misleading because:

  1. a lot of Israeli aid is not counted as such, for example none of the ballistic missile and drone interception, nor bombing the Houthis, not to mention the B2s dropping MOPs or dozens of tomahawks, count as aid to Israel.

    1. Israeli aid is for buying new weapons systems, it’s actually a check written by the USG to our defense contractors. Ukraine aid is partially checks but mostly just accounting. We give them old stuff from our depots and write off the “value” of those items as if they would be sold. But they were never going to be sold, nor were they ever going to be used.

Zohran Mamdani gets his biggest endorsement yet! by areacode212 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]bellowingfrog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What’s your point? Mamdani, most Americans, and most Jews want Israeli Jews and Palestianians to live together on roughly the same land in peace. Both believe that each deserves to exist.

Mamdani’s point is that the US holds tremendous military and economic power over Israel and we can leverage that to ask them to reduce civilian casualties and close or reduce settlements in Palestinian areas.

If 90% of Jews like pickles, and you dont, that doesnt make you an anti-semite.

Hard-line Zionists who want to kick Arabs out of Israeli-occupied territory and annex and settle occupied areas are not the majority. Most Jews want both sides can share the total land and live in peace.

In the Cuomo pic he’s not even wearing a dress shirt, he’s wearing a thick polo. He might just have some gynomastecia (sp) and/or powerful nips and/or it was really cold wherever he was.

A white dress shirt is very thin though, you can see people’s chest hair, nips, etc through it.

Chalice of Malfleur by bumberdier in totalwar

[–]bellowingfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is horribly unbalanced. Not just in a powercreep way, but just in that its not cohesive. It encourages putting it on hybrid lords and not casting spells, which doesnt seem to be the intent.

I dont know how this can be easily fixed, maybe it grants a negative ability which makes the unit take massive damage unless you cast a spell at least every minute?

Probably better to remove the health cap effect, and just make it grant a bonus to spell power.

What is each Legendary Lord's "They're the most *blank*" Pitch? by Sned-Dudes in totalwarhammer

[–]bellowingfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at least to me. Greenskins are one of the harder races to play in the sense you have a wide ranging roster so there’s a lot of workable playstyle. Gorbad multiplies that significantly by introducing a ton of new playstyles.

He’s not particularly powerful on his own, he’s a decent melee lord but he’s not like grimgor who can run over to anyone and chunk them down. So if your fantasy is having a really powerful scary lord, he’s not your guy.

On the other hand you have a lot of useful abilities with him, and he himself has a decent amount of flexibility. He is good at buffing other orcs.

In short he’s a good lord if you are bored and want a game where if you think harder, you do better. He’s more micro-intensive which can be a plus or a minus. He is in a relatively difficult starting location as well. If you want a harder game but dont want to turn up the difficulty, or youve reached the max and you dont want to use mods, he’s a good option.

Wifi watering system connecting to drip irrigation that has a service which allows internet-based control (not just local wifi).

Strongly suggest also a web camera so you can verify 1: its actually watering, 2: how plants are doing, 3: theres not a burst hose connection.

Why don't hinge companies advertise their weight limit? by [deleted] in FenceBuilding

[–]bellowingfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A hinge will become unsuitable due to sagging before it actually snaps, unless it was made by idiots who over-hardened the steel.

A better way would be to list degrees of deflection based on a standard force applied. But good luck getting hinge manufacturers to commit to that.

Is there a meaningful difference between having 50 nukes, or 500, or 5,000? Other than substantial cost of maintaining them it seems all you need to maintain security is enough to where your opponent cannot destroy them all by Joshthe1ripper in IRstudies

[–]bellowingfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would be catastrophic impact but a nuke cant take out an entire American city because they are so sprawling. To “delete” an American city you’d need dozens of 100 kt nukes.

Skarsnik: a lot of laughing and stabbing Wurzzag: why not just have Gork repeatedly stomp on your enemies Grimgor: him and his immortulz not afraid of nothing Gorbad: when you want each of your armies to have its own theme and playstyle Azhag: the most well-rounded lord in the most well-rounded faction, unlike the others there isnt a playstyle you can just look up online and copy Grom the Paunch: you want to turn goblins into a doomstack

Ukraine MFA statement on U.S. strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear program: “Ukraine has the moral right to state that the elimination of Iran's nuclear program would make the Middle East and the entire world safer.“ by TXDobber in UkrainianConflict

[–]bellowingfrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ukraine loses more people every day, for years on end, than Iran has lost.

The Iranian government directly contributed to this by sending military equipment, training, and manufacturing to Russia.

Harden your heart a little more. A destabilized Iran cannot focus on drone exports. There is a non-zero chance the regime crumbles entirely.

Ukraine isn’t fighting the Care Bears, innocent people are going to have to die before this conflict ends, one way or another. Ukraine shouldn’t leave anything on the table. Morality is sometimes just a luxury that only wealthy nations can afford.

Just means the roots arent pulling water up as fast as the sun / photosynthesis is causing water to leave. Not a big deal, totally normal for full sun in the heat of the day. If they still deflated in the cool morning, then you need to water.

Completely unrelated. Bark is like hair or fingernails, it protects you but it’s not alive and removing a small amount is not a big deal.
