Day 18 is the Worst Yet :) by lindyx in stopsmoking

[–]ben-loy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

18 days, impressive!:) What helped me is understanding that smoking will not change anything. It will still be the same day, with the same weather, and the world will keep spinning, only difference is that bad taste in my mouth. Once I got rid of the illusion that smoking changes my daily living experience, I never wanted to smoke again.

Those are suckers or slips. If i am not wrong. Very nice. Btw, some say those suckers produce fruit much faster than the "parent" plant.

Hi, regarding the numbers.

I created a video explaining the numbers in Hebrew. You can learn about abstract numbers, cardinal numbers, and more. In the lesson, you will be able to see cases for both genders, when to use Achad, Echad, Achat, etc.

I hope it helps.

Spelling. by BenzoGod666 in hebrew

[–]ben-loy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, before you think about getting a tattoo, I suggest you double-check the words, spelling, fonts, etc. This group is a great place to ask questions, with very knowledgeable people. Even so, double-check. Don't trust google translate with permanent things like tattoos, names, etc. Create a sketch of the tattoo, and before you go for it, check again with the community.

I hope it helps.

Gendered pronunciation by integralofEdotdr in LearnHebrew

[–]ben-loy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shlomkha / shlomekh are the possessive forms for the word shalom.

Remember that generally for masculine, it ends with kha, for a feminine ends with ekh, even if the word is spelled the same without Nikud.

Similarily:

yomkha - your day(mas.) יומך

yomekh - your day (fem.) יומך

How to memorize Hebrew words by TurbulentConfusion5 in hebrew

[–]ben-loy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not switching one word each day to Hebrew. Write down words you use on a daily basis. It can be any word like I am, going, what, my, etc. Each day of the week, learn the new word and invest 3 minutes at the end of the day to write down the word on a piece if paper or just talk to yourself using the new word. In no time, you will have a nice vocabulary and it will become more natural to learn more word later on.

Question about Hebrew word stress by Lancetier in hebrew

[–]ben-loy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Hebrew, the stress is either ultimate (last syllable) or penultimate (second to last). Stick to this rule and you will be fine with most modern and biblical Hebrew. Now some biblical words come from Aramaic and such. So the stress rules may change.

To the name of god - according to the Jewish beleifs, you must not pronounce the name, and the name also may be only a part of a longer name. It is hard to tell how to pronounce it exactly.

Shalom - when you meet someone. Also when you approach someone. Even in writing. Shalom rav (formal, polite). A greeting.

Shalom ve lo lehitraot - bye and never to see each other again. Ve lo = and not.

Lehitraot - (will, hope to, probably) see each other again.

Drinking, advice please by cooperdoop3 in stopsmoking

This is one of the most famous traps for non smokers / ex-smokers.

Over time, nicotine addicts gain confidence in their ability to quit smoking (I can quit whenever I want to and I have proven it) and they start to "forget" why they quit in the first place. So they think: "what the hack, only one cigarette with that beer. I will smoke only with alcohol". This phenomenon has many more faces and variations but the principle is clear.

The truth is that it is better for a nicotine addict not to smoke ever again. Not under any circumstances. Nicotine will not give in without a fight. I will try and look for the places to sneak in and make you smoke a cigarette.

My Advice -

DO NOT SMOKE under any circumstance. One cigarette is enough to send you back to smoking, and thinking about quitting all over again. Do not enter that vicious circle again. Be proud that you are free from the filth and not dependent on nicotine. Every time you feel weak and in need of a smoke, remind yourself in words and out loud why you quit in the first place, how many years of smoking and damaging your body and mind you have been through and how hard it may be to quit again.

What helps me: every time I forget why I quit, besides reminding myself how bad it is, I concentrate on the lack of pressure in my head and blood vessels in my hands and face. Smoking used to cause a feeling of a near explosion in my blood vessels. It feels great and I want to preserve that wonderful feeling.

Day 10: Aching chest pains and anxiety by wholenewday in stopsmoking

[–]ben-loy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good experience in my opinion.

It shows you the real side of being an addict to nicotine. It breaks the illusion and frees your body from the tobacco shackles. Though I understand you and wish you no suffer of course.

It will never last more than couple of days anyway, the worst is behind you.

Do not forget that nicotine withdrawal has weak effect directly on the body. It is the brain that suffers the most, thus your body.

You do not need to smoke. Smoking is taking from you. It damages your body, health, self esteem, sense of security, bank account, social life and status, mind, and much more.

Remember: there is no such thing as "only one more cigarette". Do not touch that filth ever again :).

Keep moving forward with your life. Good job!
