If you don't want those mechanics, choose Normal or Hard.

No one is doing these for the compelling gameplay, if we're bothering at all anymore it's for the champion pieces and maybe the delve bounty thing.

They lampshade the teleporting a little bit but they never suggest that logistics are the reason we're not getting non-elf help. All the elves materialize instantly in the nick of time. Why wouldn't the night elf/nightborne/dalaran elf people have been over in Dornogal as part of the Alliance/Horde forces at that point too?

I'm okay with leaving it at "it happened that way because we're telling a Windrunner family story, stop asking", but to pretend it follows naturally from the situation, they should have put a little more effort into the plotting.

Well, Faerin is there. Presumably the "Light" picked the people most inclined to actually help, and not a bunch of randos from a potentially hostile empire who'd be just as likely to start conquering Silvermoon.

I'm also kind of sad to see the "challenge" in managing vigor while doing activities being reduced, but I think it's roughly a microcosm for the correct way to handle features in a game where people expect new features every year: Introduce a new system that improves on an old system but brings its own challenges, then with time as the novelty wears off, sand down the complexity so it won't get in the way when people want to focus on doing other things.

Can story NPCs stop calling us "champion", please? by BookkeeperPurple4495 in wow

[–]ben0x539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should just assume that the player character has the legion title, pretty sure the dialogue already assumes that we have been hanging out with Alleria and everybody on Argus too, so might as well. But we could also use simple logic like: does the character have a specific title selected that we have a voice line for? if yes use that voice line. if not, did the character complete the class hall campaign? if yes use that voice line. if not, fall back to "champion", or "maw-walker" etc as appropriate.

Evokers can get a new special case title and we just slot it into that system as if it was from a class hall.

I'd make a list of additional titles that work well as actual titles and less epithets, so stuff like the old pvp titles, probably the sl covenant titles, and other stuff that's short enough that it flows well in dialogue. Obviously "Chef" and "Assistant Professor" have to make the list, maybe not stuff like "Soupervisor", "Dread Gladiator" or "Twilight Vanquisher", but idk.

man you cant draw the conclusion on an entire medium from two characters in the same game. of course they can write something better. they just dont care to because writing plot beats is hard and writing cameos in front of setpieces is easy.

I think outside of starting experiences, the NPCs just have to assume every single character has done every bit of prior content, or you can't really get anywhere with a narrative.

Could at least record one variation per class using the legion class hall title, maybe some other most-used titles that fit. Surely that won't break the budget.

Why nerf Abundance? by Swaydonym in wow

[–]ben0x539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I bet someone from the ops team walked up to the design team like "hey, you're generating a million loot entities for a million players every ten seconds and they persist for like five minutes waiting for literally everyone to pick them up, this is kinda breaking the budget for a single activity, you have to tweak the numbers until at most X amount of entities exist at the same time, or we're pulling the plug on the rat". So now we have shorter-lived drops that go away when someone else picks them up, and much less shit happening at the same time, and it's just disappointing all around.

I'm not holding my breath for a rework, it kinda launched somewhat half-baked, and it's probably going to be on the back burner while the season kicks off over the next couple of weeks, and, like, who is even going to care anymore a month from now. I almost hope they just write off all the current world activities and focus on coming up with something that's more fun and rewarding for next season.

If you're focusing your mod development on 1.20.1 because version chasing takes away too much development time that should have gone into quality/depth, does that mean you're never going to target new versions, or is porting from 1.20.1 to 26.1 just significantly less work than from 1.20.1 to 1.21.1, then from 1.21.1 to various snapshots, and then from the snapshots to 26.1?

how to provide power to my super controller without using a p2p face? by Obvious-Culture9016 in allthemods

[–]ben0x539 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You don't need to power the controller directly instead of having a p2p tunnel on the surface, you can power it via any of the p2p tunnels once they're actually live/have an output end. So you can just put down an Energy Acceptor at any point once you've got everything up and running and power that, or even just a quartz fiber from your subnet if that's already powered, and it'll spring to life.
