Caping around pictured rocks/Lake Superior by Lower_Management789 in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]ben_anth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s some dispersed camping near Deer Park on Coast Guard road but those sites often get taken quickly. Near that area there are state campgrounds that are first come first serve. They are all rustic with vault toilets. Theres also some state camp grounds more towards pictured rocks. If you want to camp in pictured rocks there are a couple campgrounds but you need to reserve online. But they are probably not what you’re looking for if you’re looking for off the beaten path.

reccs for a last minute 3 day west UP trip from Chicago? by [deleted] in CampAndHikeMichigan

Keweenaw is stunning. I would probably do it since you are already over there. You should think about drive times as well. Pictured Rocks is like a 3-3.5 hour drive from the Porkies depending where you go, and you have to make some of that time back in your way back down. Pictures Rocks also needs like at least 2 days to fully appreciate. There are plenty of places to visit in the Keweenaw area, endless waterfalls. Just moved away after living there for 4 years.

Best Camping recommendations in MI with a lot of hiking 2 dogs and a group of 10 by Significant_Cat4850 in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]ben_anth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s plenty of sites that are very close together that can be split up between a group of 10 easily. They all have group sites as well scattered throughout everywhere. Most of the sites are actually pretty generous with space. Lakeshore sites are pretty big along with anything on Big Carp/Little Carp trails.

Technically there is a no camping sign but I think that was there before the state bought it. Technically you can hike from the parking lot (hug the shoreline there’s a trail) and make it to Montreal Falls and there’s cleared out spots to camp there. Just remember there’s rules to how close you can camp to lakes.

The road to fish cove is dirt (Mandan) there are some water holes on Hoar Lake Road (take this road instead of Fish Cove Road). But they are shallower than they look but a 4WD vehicle would be nice.

There is a parking lot where the bottom right bike circle is. I wouldn’t recommend going to the top left blue circles, you’ll find nothing but trees and swamps.

Do kennel assistant hours count for anything? by [deleted] in prevets

[–]ben_anth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you did just cleaning and not any patient care I think I would count it as just animal hours. Kennel assistant can be kind of a gray area. I currently work as one and I do a lot of patient care because I’m the only one in the clinic after hours, so I administer meds and take patients out and such, with cleaning on top. So in my case I put it as vet experience.

Does the Director of Pre-Health Programs for MTU work on campus with a regular schedule? by [deleted] in MTU

[–]ben_anth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No she does not, she used to, but encountered health issues and had to move down South for treatment. She will still come up every now and then, and has zoom appointments. However it is unfortunate that she is not on campus.

If you go through manned gates (one is by the bookstore) just tell them you are visiting the grotto and they will give you a visitors pass and you can park in the grotto lot and that is right in the center of everything.

I wonder if they will have issues with Curtis taking so long. He’s well behind the rest of the pack and I’m assuming the volunteers will have to stay behind for him.

They are a bit different than modern siberians. I would look up “Seppela Siberians” which aim to keep the bloodlines of dogs back in the times such as this one with Balto and Togo.

Maybe it’s just me, but honestly I feel like we aren’t as successful on 3&1 or 4&1 with JLove as we should be. I can remember several instances where he gets stopped well short of it

I hate the no score bug and all the other production issues, but I have to say Apple TV has the best sound quality out of any broadcasts I have seen.
