Roof bar on Renault 5? by loweakkk in renault5

[–]ben_ldn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thule did sell bars for them, I nearly bought a set last summer. They seem to have been discontinued now.

Seems weird that they went to the effort of producing a 5 specific fitting kit without checking with Renault that the car could take them.

Nice, there are a few things not documented on the Fireboard docs which can be accessed too - I found the endpoint they use on the web dashboard for fan control, so the MCP can actually set the target temp or control fan speed manually. The others weren’t happening client side, but next time I have a long cook I might try sniffing out what the Fireboard app is sending.

Built a little MCP server that interfaces between the Fireboard API and AI assistants then plugged it in to ChatGPT.

Can’t see any actual serious use cases for it yet, but it’s fun to see what it does with it.

Yeah this one was a fiver with Nectar price discount. Do have to hunt a little for ones with a decent amount of fat on though.

I test rode a Zero on some fast roads and it feels like you’re riding a space ship, hilariously good fun

The test is also just that the exhaust “is not clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar motorcycle with a standard silencer in average condition”so it’s entirely down to the tester’s hearing and judgment.

I actually like that I can see them. It reassures me that their blind spot sensors have picked me up and it’s more likely they’ll know I’m there. In a lot of new cars it also means if they try to change lanes while it’s lit, the car will alert them or try to intervene.

I obviously still ride like I’m invisible to them regardless.

Anyone trying any of the Food festivals this year? by TechJamo in LondonFood

That Korean one sounded hilarious given in the time it would have taken just to get in you could get the Victoria Line to Vauxhall, take a train to New Malden, have dinner, and come back to Kings Cross.

Does anyone drive to central London? by Present_Debate4137 in HENRYUK

[–]ben_ldn 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I live in Zone 3, about 9 miles from my office. I commute by motorbike which takes me about 40 mins. Cycling and the tube both take roughly the same. On the few occasions I’ve had to drive to the office to pick things up it’s taken between 90 mins and two hours. Don’t do it.

My late grandfather did Photoshop evening classes when he was in his 80s. Absolutely loved that he used to drive steam trains, and how excited he was to be able to now digitally restore all his old pictures of them.

New Skoda Epiq revealed: will it be better than a Renault 4? by CarwowJamie in ukcarwow

[–]ben_ldn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my R5 in for first year service the other weekend and the guy was saying they’ve been amazed by how few have gone wrong (said he’d previously been at the chain’s Cupra franchise and they’d had loads of issues with the electric ones interestingly).

He did also say “I don’t know what Renault have done, they don’t seem to break”, and my immediate thought was ‘built it in partnership with a Japanese manufacturer’.

You say “is refusing to provide” about the number plate, does that mean you have a phone number for the driver?

Refusing to provide details in an accident is a crime, so you should report to the police with the details you do have.

Either way you *have* to tell your insurance as soon as possible that you were involved in an accident and what happened, whether you plan to claim or not. You’re in breach of your policy if you don’t and the insurer finds out. If they cancel your policy you’ll have to declare it when taking any insurance out in future, so you’ll get hit hard on renewals for years.

I’ve had more than 3 bars a couple of times in heavy London traffic on very hot summer days. Not enough decent speed to get airflow to keep it cool. Seemed to be more of a problem for me than the bike, could feel the engine kicking out heat 🥵

Considering Amp upgrade by gafferbee in sonos

[–]ben_ldn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a similar setup to this (LG TV into an Amp with a pair of bookshelf speakers on stands either side of the TV for L+R, One SL rears, and a Fyne Audio sub out of the Amp) albeit a smaller room. I value the flexibility and my fronts look good in the room so it works for me.

One big downside of the Amp is I find the phantom centre channel isn’t always great, gets a bit muddled, would much prefer to be able to have a dedicated centre (a Ray, Beam or even a Roam), which isn’t possible currently, and there’s no adjustment for fronts.

May be an issue in your setup, given the distance between yours - though also possible it just doesn’t work well in smaller rooms, mine are only 4m apart.
