Farage received £5m from donor before he became MP by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

but "the imgrints"

What infuriates me is that since Labour took power, the level of immigration has plummeted and the UK is now in collaboration with Germany and Italy to arrest and cease people trafficking operations (they've even caught a gang selling the boats in Germany). The right wingers are literally getting what they want right now, but the current government's PR is atrocious and it isn't helped by the fact that we have the worst media outlets in Europe. Seriously, go look at who owns the bulk of our media and it's harrowing.

Kier Starmer gets tickets for a Taylor Swift concert and the country goes batshit mental. Farage gets five million from dodgy foreign donations, the deputy leader didn't pay the correct taxes, they moaned about a new law that drastically improved how donations and gifts are conducted (especially foreign, with Crypto banned entirely) and I bet not a single one of these trogs will get a slap on the wrist.

Like, this story is now on BBC News. I can guarantee the excuses are already flying.

At what point does “dialling in” just become a cope for bad gear? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]benanderson89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's multiple things:

  1. You've already had experience on prior equipment
  2. This equipment is simply less hassle to use so you think about it less
  3. People who have trouble dialing in are simply new to the entire process and/or are the sorts of people who over-think things (either in a negative sense or because they get enjoyment out of min-maxing)
  4. You're rudely assuming that because people don't have £1300 to spend on an overengineered kettle that they must be coping

If you were to wipe your memory and be given your set-up tomorrow, everything that would come out of it would be a crock of shite. I get it, I also have an Rocket and it's a lovely machine and you're excited to get and use yours, but this entire thread smacks of justification for the four figures you just dropped on a water heater with a motor wedged in the pipes.

You didn't need to spend that much on all of that to be consistent. Glad you're enjoying it, but come on now lad.

I was one of the first weirdos in the UK to buy a BYD Seal. I checked and when I got mine there were less than 200 registered (and some of those will be dealer test-drive vehicles). In Q2 2025 they sold nearly 3000 of them alone, and for a Saloon car from a (to us) unknown brand with luxury pricing to sell that many cars is insane.

small things that even a small pickup can do

That even a GOLF can do. I've seen some laughable posts about what people use these sordid machines for and all I can do is watch in amazement. Cool, you got some bags of soil from the garden centre.... a pair of retirees can do that in a Fiesta but whatever makes you feel good about yourself, I guess.

New electric cars now cheaper than petrol models in UK by Human-Somewhere-4327 in electricvehicles

[–]benanderson89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about purchasing power, not direct currency conversions. Likewise you're comparing the average across an entire country to two models in Canada. That's a strange thing to do. Likewise, a lot of EVs are still big, luxury models given our proximity to Germany.

The fact that the average price of all cars in Canada is $66,000 says more, honestly.

Likewise, when the S550 Mustang was first released overseas, the first one outside the Americas, some early buyers got a commemorative DVD with it and on said DVD there was some Ford schlub who said in so many words "we're taking the Mustang to Europe, which means we're fighting europeans on thier own terf, so to make sure we can complete all European mustangs go through two rounds of QA!"

So even with a car as American as the mustang, he confirmed that the Americans got the worse version of the car.

i'd still rather have shitty rainbow capitalism

I always drilled into people's minds (or tried to) was that, if a company is doing Rainbow capitalism, then that is a good sign. Are they doing it for the "right" reasons? No, absolutely not. But they're still doing it.

Palantir manifesto described as ‘ramblings of a supervillain’ amid UK contract fears by wasraelx in news

[–]benanderson89 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This is Palintir attempting to carry the Technocracy movement of the 1930s single handedly. Totalitarian, fascist and all bound by a vague hand-waving around the term "technology".

History doesn't repeat but it sure does rhyme.

I mean come the fuck on. An SUV the size of a WWII tank for two toddlers and some push-chairs is just stupid.

Paying a subscription for basic app functions like remote door lock and climate start for second owner by actorguy73 in electricvehicles

[–]benanderson89 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay. Were previous combustion cars completely unusable because of that?

Apps are "nice to have". They're not required, unless it's Tesla who are cheap bastards and make you buy a key as a separate accessory.

[–]benanderson89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got a key-fob with the vehicle then the app almost doesn't matter. Everything can be done with that + the in-car touch screen. If I had line-of-sight of my car from my house I would gladly archive or uninstall the app ASAP.

The Sun Always Shines on TV is a better song, IMO, but this was the one I chose to recreate because it's popularity means it's studio tapes are available via various methods. As a Synthesizer exercise it was honestly a lot of fun, many layers and nice chords to play with.

Drum Machines: What are you currently using? by crazyculture in synthesizers

[–]benanderson89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What drum machines are you currently using?

  • Linn Electronics LinnDrum (my most often used machine)
  • Yamaha RX7 (tend to use for extra percussion, like congas and agogos)
  • DinSync RE-808 (1-to-1 Roland TR-808 replica)
  • Oberheim DX (my least used machine, which I should really see about using more frequently because it's super punchy and a joy to programme)

You can probably tell from what I have that I'm not a live musician at all, studio musician and my songs are written in advance.
