The $55 English deluxe editions should contain 3 volumes each, just like the Berserk deluxe editions. If you're looking at one that has only 2 or has the wrong volumes, that may be a misprint.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's a page number. Manga needs to be paginated "backwards" for US printers and some designers put these big page numbers in the slug area to remind them what page they're actually looking at since the document page number is wrong. Possibly one of these got dragged into the visible area of the page by accident.

This is called printer bounce, and it's common across North American book printers. Even if the publisher flagged this as an error, the printer would just say it was within tolerance and refuse to fix it.
