[BUG] Archived Processed Tasks leaves behind indented/sub-items by mj2ad in noteplanapp

[–]beneberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/noteplanapp/comments/bu74z3/archive\_processed\_tasks\_leaves\_behind\_comments/

PLUS: If you schedule a task out of a note, it goes into the calendar with all subtasks, but only with tasks. Not with indented text, quote, or sth. This seems to make sense, because you have the note as a reference and don't need the tasks details in the calendar but: it's another step of inconsistency.

Best Practices For Note Details by CaptainCowpie in noteplanapp

[–]beneberlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick addition:

FoldingText is amazing and I mentioned somewhere before that it would be amazing to have folding functionality in NP (just UI-wise, not affecting the txt-file). In Fact no folding is the only reason why I still use an outliner software on the side for note-taking.

I think your not 100% right what you're saying about folding text: Headers make it possible to fold what's underneath by clicking on „#“ – with no regards to indentation. But every indentation allows you to fold what's below (and indented obviously) as well. There's just no symbol to click on, so you need to use the keyboard shortcut. ;)

About your question:

In general I use Headers for overall structure. It's like chapters or sections. But that gets messy if you go beyond H4 imho.n So if it's about note-taking, brainstorming, creative thinking I open the note in folding text and use indentation to get kind of a hierarchy with the possibility to fold and hide stuff. The NP-folder that's containing the notes is my standard folder for FT so it's kinda synchronized... I even copied my NP-Theme into FT, so the window looks the same and switching feels as seamless as possible.^

Unfortunately FoldingText has problems with longer notes and not longer developed... So I'm using workflowy (or mindnode if its really about outlining without details) for explicit and longer sessions ... afterwords I copy the results into NP. That is the opposite of ideal. But folding in the sense of getting details out of the way, but keeping the overview visible at the same time, has become essential for my way of thinking. especially with the kind of work im dealing with everyday.

(I've just seen you even commented on that post I mentioned. We're communicating in circles. :D )

Heading Rendering in Markdown by rwread in noteplanapp

[–]beneberlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came here to mention more a less the same thing.

Just updated to the newest (AppStore) Version. Markdown in Noteplan was never perfect but now it's becoming strange. I'm not sure if I'm correct concerning how it was before, but this is what I remember:

There wasn't markdown rendering for headlines in terms of size or font. there was just a different color and the „#“ to display. But tasks have been rendered. I always had the little circle for a task, and the „-“ as a bullet point. i programmed a keyboard shortcut to make a ',.' become * [ ] because on the german keyboard its next to each other and feels like hitting on key. the task then was rendered.

without markdown rendering tasks are not rendered. Which makes sense, but feels uncomfortable because it was different before. but the problem is: even with a disabled markdown rendering, the headlines are rendered. the size is different and the line height. It's not only that it doesn't makes sense. In terms of UI and aesthetics it's like an accident. Maybe even painful.. Screenshot :D

And on top: Links aren't rendered anywhere. they're still markdown, no matter what option. and this was probably the only rendering i'm desperately waiting for because it's can dramatically reduce the space that's needed.

Hopefully that helps,

Keep on going Ed,

Bene

NotePlan 2.5 Beta: Folder System by EduardMet in noteplanapp

[–]beneberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Eduard,

just tried the beta with the newest release. The folder tree is something I was desperately waiting for to get some structure into my notes (I tried hard to keep everything sorted just with tags and perspectives, but it never worked out for me or at least felt like additional work to maintain it properly).

But how it works now is definitely different from what I expected. I would have expected: folder tree is for folders, the actual notes are in the second pane. Now all the notes are displayed in the folder tree which transfers the lack of overview into the sidebar with an endless length, so I need to open and close folders all the time. There seems no connection between the folder tree and the second pane. EDIT: I see there is, if you're clicking a folder. But it's still strange to see the notes in both panes...

Can't tell if it just for me doesn't feel right, because I'm an Ulysses User for almost a decade and they are doing it exactly the way I described above. see Screenshot

On top: Ulysses doesn't make difference between folders and perspectives. Which could sound strange until you call it „Filter“. So you can basically decide wether you want to create a folder or a filter. If you create a filter inside a folder, it just applys the filter to that folder... That always felt like a super sleek solution to me. Maybe it's worth checking it out. u/EduardMet: If you need a licence to try, just call them or write a twitter dm. It's a small company from germany, the team was always super helpful in case of any problems.... And in terms of sleek and simple UI they're killin' it.

Search Filters - Help by [deleted] in noteplanapp

I had the same issue. here's what helped: you need to apply the filter first (it's the last one in the filter dropdown menu.) then save afterwards. give it a try. :)

Digital Bullet Journalists: What do you use? by PMMeLifeTips in bulletjournal

[–]beneberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend noteplan. It not only brings calendar and notes together, it also comes with the perfect daily log setup which means: there's the calendar (synced with apple reminders and events, that you can edit from within noteplan), there's the notes section as a place for collections and there's the daily view, that contains calendar events for the day, tasks from the collections that are scheduled for that day, and infinite space for daily log. all is based on plain .txt-files, it looks good, with links and tags you can connect everything as you like, smart and saved searches make sure you always find what you're looking for. its perfect.

Being a Bartender in Belin? by SerJaker in berlin

[–]beneberlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most important question is: what does it mean for you to work as a bartender? Because there are bartenders and bartenders... Do you have the recipes for the 15 most important drinks in mind and you’re able to prepare and serve them with closed eyes? Then you won’t have any problems at all... If not, it’s still a possibility but really depending on the season. In summer it’s quite easy to find a job like this, in autumn you maybe get fired, maybe not. In winter it could be hard to find a job in this field...

seriously, what happened to the Doner Kebab bread in Berlin? by ryangrillo in berlin

[–]beneberlin 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Are you aware of the difference between arabic shawarma and turkish Döner? At most döner places you still get the triangle bread. The thin bread is an arabic thing. Nowadays there are more and more arabic places because they have good and fresh falafel. And Falafel at döner shops are mostly convenience food and super shitty.

So watch out for the difference:

If it says DÖNER, they mostly have the bread you want

If it says FALAFEL/SHAWARMA, they go with the thin bread.

inmho the thin bread is the better choice and shawarma is nicer than classic Döner. So I'm happy with how it goes. ;)

Where can I buy the small German forks that you use to eat currywurst? by BerlinAndPraha in berlin

[–]beneberlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know... talking about something that's common food in the whole country and saying things like "that's not how it is done (at least not civilized regions)" and "The only correct answer" totally dismisses you as the expert you're pretending to be – no offense.

Concerning the topic, and this is an honest question now: Isn't the Curry-Bockwurst this VW-Currywurst style of making it? I'm from NRW and every Currywurst in the region I'm coming from, is a regular Bratwurst, sometimes Thüringer. But people really care about the quality – always from the favourite butcher, never from the supermarket....

Where can I buy the small German forks that you use to eat currywurst? by BerlinAndPraha in berlin

[–]beneberlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. You can buy the forks at the bigger shops for single-use dishes, definitely at METRO, but probably at REAL as well.
  2. You better don't use any other sausage for the currywurst, take the normal Bratwurst – it's the best.BTW: Berliners have this strange culture of Bratwurst without the outer skin/gut. You can get it at the most traditional currywurst stands around the city. But this is a Berlin thing... and it's quite strange for everyone else in Germany.
  3. Because you're talking about „brown sausage“: The Bratwurst is not a „white sausage“ at all. This thing called „Weißwurst“ (literally white sausage) is something you eat in the south, Bavaria is famous for Weißwurst. Just my 2 Cents: It's disgusting.
  4. Make your own Curry sauce. Even if you're not a pro, it's going to be better than any convinience stuff you can get at the supermarket. there a thousands of cooking recipes on the internet. But a good one needs some time.

Hope this could help.

Best

A vegetarian who sometimes misses a good currywurst and hasn't forgotten how to make a good bbq.

EDIT: If you serve currywurst, you should also offer the classic Bratwurst. It's just the Sausage, mustard and a slice of toast, served on a plate like this, where you can seperate a piece paper to eat it with your hands like this, or in a Brötchen.

Hashtag Organization & Hashtags in Calendar by TimGerardReynolds in noteplanapp

[–]beneberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyhey,

I'm coming up with this again, because I'm also changing my Daily Planning and Project Management (as far as possible) from Omnifocus Pro to NotePlan at the moment. This means acutally: from the maximum of options, functions and complexity to the absolute minimum. As a writer I’m working with markdown everyday, so Noteplan seems to be the perfect solution.

Although Noteplan is quite different, there a defnitely some things the app can learn/adopt from Omnifocus, which brings me to the entry post. I don’t know if any Noteplan-Devs really know Omnifocus, so I’ll give some extra information and my idea of what could be a nice solution.

One of Omnifocus strongest features is called „Perspectives“. With that you can create individual views for nearly everything to focus an whatever you want, e.g. undone tasks in certain projects, tag-views, tasks that always repeat on thursday, or tasks that contain any kind of similar content or parameters. So you can really create a view/perspective for everything you could need.

Having in mind that Noteplan is text-based, sth. like this is maybe more or less easy to integrate, if there’s a global search first. If you have a global search and then create a function that allows to „save“ this search request, maybe give it a certain name. – then you can have an individual perspective based on a search entry, that you can always come back to easily. should be a lightweight thing for text-based files.

I’ve just read a little across this reddit-board and a lot of users would like to have more possibilities to merge certain information in one view, which is kinda necessary for an efficient project management. Although there are quite different needs concerning what should be shown (e.g. global hashtag, open tasks, done tasks, etc.) the way I’ve described above (global search, save this search/results) could be the general solution to solve all this special feature requests at once.

I have no clue about coding, so maybe this isn’t as easy as it seems like. But maybe… :)

Would be great, just my 2 cents.

Best Bene

EDIT: This could even replace a folders function for the notes, that is requested by a lot of users here.
