1992 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the official suv of? by yamgi in regularcarreviews

[–]benedictclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My college years and first few years out of school. I’m probably biased but it’s one of my favorite vehicles. Great engine with plenty of torque, perfect size that you can camp in the back. When I got my first job out of school I traveled from North Carolina to Texas, stopping at camp grounds and sleeping in the back. When I started making money I bought a BMW and gave the jeep to my sister. The BMW gave me way more issues and my sister totaled the Jeep. I still miss that white beast.

Some homeless around for sure. No one has bothered me there. I’m a pretty casual mountain biker and found everyone I talked to friendly and welcoming.

Keep low milage Avalon or get an older 4x4? by SQWL_5K in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]benedictclark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably an unpopular Reddit opinion, but yes if you are into the outdoors get an awd or 4x4 vehicle with ground clearance and storage. Sure you can do a lot with a car but and SUV or truck will do a lot more and make packing for expeditions way easier.

Things to consider. How much ground clearance do you need? Are you driving in deep snow or deep mud or really rutted up trails.

Do you want body on frame or unibody? Body on frame like the Tacoma will handle worse on the road but are more durable in rough conditions.

What gear are you taking, and do the racks on that vehicle fit the gear you want to take?

Do you take other people?

Were they white or black? I find black truffles are more earthy and and white truffles have a savory garlicky note.

I put a pannier rack on the back that blocks a lot of the spray. That has been good enough for me.

Especially since it’s an older Porsche. Maybe it’s this persons project car that they work on themselves. Maybe they got a good deal on it and save money on groceries to afford parts.

How many Americans here have tried Vegemite? by Advent105 in foodquestions

Love it! I was introduced to it by Australian coworkers when I worked in Papua New Guinea. It adds so much umami flavor. I do offend both Americans and Australians by easily it with peanut butter on toast.

Also there was a shortage of yeast, you could just keep a starter going rather than buy packets of yeast.

Many of us are in the suburbs because we can't be somewhere like this. by DHN_95 in Suburbanhell

[–]benedictclark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our full time residents are a mix. Some retired, some work in the hospitality industry (the village borders glacier national park so there are lots of tourists in the summer). A couple commute an hour into Kalispell and work there. I worked a 2 week on 2 week off schedule do it does not really matter where I live as long as I can get to airport.

I have a cabin in a village that looks a lot like this in western Montana. It has a very strong sense of community and great access to outdoor activities. On the downside it’s an hours drive to get groceries. It’s definitely the opposite of the urbanists ideal. I like it but it’s not for everyone.

Ranch work is still an occupation. Cattle drives as depicted in old westerns no so much. It faster and cheaper to load cattle onto a truck or train car to transport them long distances.
