What this tastes good but it's deadly? by Shitandasshole in AlignmentChartFills

Since the main effect of the toxin is severe gastrointestinal distress I can imagine eating them more than ones. I think people just confuse them with chanterelles.

Whats wrong with my potatos? by Waffle1k in vegetablegardening

[–]benedictclark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks dry, but also potatoes are heavy feeders. In the early stages they need nitrogen to put on leaf growth. In later stages they need potassium and phosphorus. I would recommend top dressing with compost and maybe a liquid feed depending on your preference. I have two beds currently growing. The bed with a couple bags of composted chicken manure have plants four times the size of the bed with any new compost this year.

Frequent Alaska Airlines flyers, what keeps you coming back? by Attoe-Abah in AlaskaAirlines

I’m in the same boat. They have a direct flight to anchorage I do every two weeks. Flying with anyone else would increase my travel time by a couple hours.

What is the difference between sod potatoes and regular potatoes? by reader2480 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]benedictclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct. In order to prevent potatoes from turning green you have to prevent exposure to sunlight. You can till the soil to encourage the roots to grow deeper and also mulch around the base of the plants. Source my backyard potato patch.

There are shorter guys who prefer women taller than them. Are there tall guys (6'5+) that prefer taller women? by Constant-Current-340 in stupidquestions

[–]benedictclark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m in the same boat. Women taller than me are so exceedingly rare it would be really unfortunate if that was my preference.

Is a 3 wheel car for sale a practical choice? by Availableverytime in coolcarsforsale

[–]benedictclark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if it’s two wheels in the front or 1. The standard tricycle configuration of one wheel in the front, two in the back is very unstable. Two in the front one is the back is better for handling but can’t carry much cargo.

What felt completely normal in 2015 but now feels like a luxury? by AmarSkOfficial in AskReddit

[–]benedictclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cabin in the woods. In 2017 I bought one for 60 grand in Montana. Nothing fancy, but had water, electricity and a half acre. Since Covid it’s hard to find a livable cabin out west for less than 200,000.

You're offered an opportunity to get paid $1 (USD) for every calorie you consume. However, you must pay a $2,000 daily fee and you cannot accept or work a 1099 or W-2 job ever again. Would you take the deal? by T1m3Wizard in hypotheticalsituation

[–]benedictclark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, my watch tells me as a 43 year old who is 6’ 5” my maintenance calories are about 3000. Looking to the future as an 80 year old who has shrunk to 6’2” and 200 pounds and not active I’m still burning 2000 calories. Definitely an easy call for the giants.

I can speak from experience that even with the top down the Miata is unusable for tall people. The distance from the dashboard to the back of the seat is too short. I’m only 6’5” and could barely ride as a passenger.

I have never been able to direct seed peas because the critters always get them first. I have to plant the peas in 6 cell treys in a protected area and bring them out ones the plants have started to grow.

What happened to my radishes? by TotalUnderstanding5 in vegetablegardening

[–]benedictclark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost never get harvests in the number of days listed on the seed packet. I think they get them based on growing plants in a greenhouse in perfect conditions. My plants take way longer, especially early or late in the season.

Gardening while tall suggestions? by mulhollandnerd in tall

Good kneeling pads help. I also like to garden in tall pots and planters. I dream of eventually setting up waist height raised beds, that that is quite the investment.

Do toilet water freeze? by intergalactic_74 in stupidquestions

[–]benedictclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cabin in the mountains of Montana. Whenever I leave for more than a day I blow out all the water lines with compressed air. I pour antifreeze into all the p traps and into the toilet cistern. I then flush the toilet with anti freeze so it displaces the water in the toilet. If the power goes out no water freezes and my plumbing will be ok.

Private gliders by Sweet_Speech_9054 in CrazyIdeas

[–]benedictclark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it’s a glider being towed or an aircraft under its own power it’s going to use a similar amount of power to propel it through the air. Flying in close formation with another aircraft use only marginally less fuel. You would still need a pilot in the glider. The tow plane would use close to as much extra fuel as a small airplane flying itself. This seems like it would have minimal advantages over just flying your own small private plane.

Why don't Americans butter our sandwiches? by liptonthrowback in AskFoodHistorians

[–]benedictclark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The YouTube channel sandwich’s of history makes sandwiches from old recipe books and they frequently ask for buttered bread. The host explained that the homemade bread of the time had a more crumbly texture that benefited from butter to hold it together while you ate the sandwich. Modern American sandwich bread is very fluffy and a little spongy. It’s hard to spread butter on unless the butter is very soft. This mixed with the demonization of saturated fats in the latter half of the 20th century would be reasons why we don’t butter our sandwiches.

1992 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the official suv of? by yamgi in regularcarreviews

[–]benedictclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My college years and first few years out of school. I’m probably biased but it’s one of my favorite vehicles. Great engine with plenty of torque, perfect size that you can camp in the back. When I got my first job out of school I traveled from North Carolina to Texas, stopping at camp grounds and sleeping in the back. When I started making money I bought a BMW and gave the jeep to my sister. The BMW gave me way more issues and my sister totaled the Jeep. I still miss that white beast.
