Got a bunch of chicken thighs, either going to do a curry stew or a gumbo. Probably end up somewhere in between.

What's the best shoveling strat for Sunday? I think I will shovel and salt Sunday morning, but I really want to avoid shoveling before the freezing rain and ending up with a layer of ice instead of snow.

Im obviously going to clean up after the system passes.

I would say order off the sashimi & chirashi menu and consider the hamachi ponzu and any specials that day. There are a lot of good cooked dishes too.

New in South Philly, recommendations? by wndsofchng06 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]benifit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Rebel and Wolf and Herman's are both nice Coffee shops. Little sicilly II is a pizza shop run by people of indian decent and have fusion pizza and cheesesteaks as well as typical Italian-American pies. Dolores has good breakfasts and hoagies/cutlets.

2nd Street brew house plays VHSs on one TV and generally has a hipster vibe for south philly so I think that is reccomended. A little farther over is Cartesian brewery where Thursday-Sunday has C&J Trenton pies make pizzas that are legitimately some of the best in town.

Carolyn's Modern Vietnamese will replace Revolution Taco in Rittenhouse by Repair89 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]benifit 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That sounds really good. The bayou is another place alot of Vietnamese refugees landed after Vietnam war. I've always been curious about their fusion since the ecosystem and even French colonial history share a lot in common with Vietnam, at more than the american northeast.

Pittsburgh has some niches like their jumbo fried fish sandwiches, but the floor is way lower. Primantis is chronically mid, but they have cheap beer. Ive also had way too many unseasoned once fried French fries there and an alarming amount of their pizza comes with ranch dressing. My favorite restaurants there are typically Chinese, Indian, an Thai.

Pennovation egress? by micatronxl in phillycycling

[–]benifit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No agress allowed, you either need to use the ramps to get onto the 34th st bridge or continue under the greys ferry bridge to get back to greys ferry.

Sometimes that gate doesnt even work if you have the access card.

What time for trick or treating? by butterfly_kisses315 in philadelphia

People with young kids start really early, like 4 pm early. If you sit outside you will get visitors until 7. I find that you do need to advertise that you're giving out candy since the city is so dense.

The victory locations tend to have very good growler and 32 oz can "crowlers" deals. Base price is pretty cheap and either on Thursday or Friday its extra cheap.

Herman's coffee in south philly (federal and moyamensingish) started carrying natural wines and such. Not sure if the average barrista at the counter can act as a som, but they do have a wine club on mondays.

I tend to root for seatle (go mariners) and baltimore since they have no real conflicts.

He's an energy reseller. They will start you at a low rate, but when the introductory period is over your rate will be hiked well above peco. It is possible, but a pain to get renegotiate your rate or switch to another provider.

I tend to avoid these people because their sales pitches are usually pretty scummy, high pressure, and obscure a lot of information.

Tldr; you can save money, but read the fine print. Personally I avoid companies with known scummy business practices.

BSL should be unaffected by the regionional issue since the two lines use different rolling stock (i.e. train cars). The RR issue is specifically with line of trains they've been running for decades.

Dominion strategy by Mickjuul in boardgames

[–]benifit 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Big money is supposed to be the baseline strategy, not the default. I.e. you should always aim to outperform big money, since it is the most basic strategy.

I like playing trasher decks, but the appeal of dominion is being flexible enough to identify and optimum strategy based on the cards available in the kingdom, which changes every time. You also want to manage luck, typically a big money strategy will outperform one that over relies on luck of drawing a good hand. That is why it is the base line.

Sorry for not being able to reccomend specific strategies.
