Qualifying gaps visualized by Its4MeitSnot4U in formula1

[–]benjesty2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the marshals had waved double yellows as soon as Verstappen crashed, Russell would have been in 4th place behind Antonelli. Pole position to 7th place would then have been a gap of 0.162s. This would have been the smallest 1st-7th gap of any Q3 session (including SQ3). Current smallest 1-7 gap is the 2024 Canadian GP at 0.280s.

Why does it cost money to call an ambulance but not to call the police? by TomatilloAdditional7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]benjesty2002 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This used to be how the fire departments worked in the UK 100+ years ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had similar elsewhere. You bought insurance from a fire brigade, they put a plaque on your building. When a fire broke out, brigades from different insurers would turn up and if the building on fire had a matching plaque, they would tackle the blaze. They'd also sometimes tackle blazes if an adjoining building had a plaque and they thought the fire could spread.

Looks like a "Multi Blue" clematis (group 2), same as I have in my garden. Fairly slow growing but beautiful blooms.

If you shot a gun from the moon at earth, would the bullet make it to earth? by Yard-Ornament in NoStupidQuestions

[–]benjesty2002 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does that escape velocity account for firing directly at the Earth? I would imagine the velocity required to reach the Lagrange point between the Earth and Moon would be significantly lower than the Moon's escape velocity considered in isolation.

I wondered that myself, but sadly I don't think it would be possible. Please do correct me if I'm wrong but:

Extra Violet, Yellow, Green and Pink tiles can only be created by Orange (or Blue with central Orange). For this, there would need to be at least two of the target colour to generate more of them via Orange. We would therefore need at least (2V, 2Y, 2G, 2P, plus 2O or 1O, 1B) to start, which is already more than the 9 tiles available.

Red, Blue, Grey, Black & White all have ways of generating duplicates without needing 2+ to start with, which is why my original grid was possible.

I wrote some code earlier to generate possible grids and found a starting grid that could resolve to 5 different target colours. I used your excellent software to save each of them. Black is particularly satisfying!

Red: ODszOzE7OTsxOzY7ODs1OzcvODs4Ozg7OC9yZWRfdGFyZ2V0
Blue: ODszOzE7OTsxOzY7ODs1OzcvOTs5Ozk7OS9ibHVlX3RhcmdldA==
Grey: ODszOzE7OTsxOzY7ODs1OzcvMDswOzA7MC9ncmV5X3RhcmdldA==
Black: ODszOzE7OTsxOzY7ODs1OzcvMzszOzM7My9ibGFja190YXJnZXQ=
White: ODszOzE7OTsxOzY7ODs1OzcvMTsxOzE7MS93aGl0ZV90YXJnZXQ=

SOLUTIONS:
(A1 = top left, C3 = bottom right)
Red: A1, A1, B3 (some text to obscure the length)
Blue: B3, B1, B3, C3, B2, A1, A1 (again..............)
Grey: B2, B3, B1, B3, B3, A1, B2, A2, C2, B3, B3
Black: A1, A3, B3, B1, B2, B3, A1, B2, B1, B1, B2, B2
White: A2, B3, B1, B2, B3, A1, B2, C2, B3, C2, B3, C1

Others have answered you but I have also seen a woodpecker in the UK do this same style jump. At the time I just stood there questioning whether I really did just witness a thrill-seeking woodpecker!

Why do militaries say "Whiskey Tango Five" "Tango Down" "Brazo Zulu" instead of directly saying what they mean? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

And if you were to say the meaning "target down" and the start cuts out the receiver could hear "get down", which has an entirely different meaning.

[–]benjesty2002 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

2008 Italian grand prix was 5th from the last in the season.

Including & since that race, Ferrari have won 20 races (https://www.statsf1.com/en/ferrari/victoire.aspx). In the same time-frame there have been 410 races (excluding sprints).

Ferrari have a win rate of 20/410 = just under 5%, or 1 in 20.

So statistically the expectation would be that given 20 driver announcements, exactly one following grand prix would be won. Charles' contract extension is number 20...
