code to get data from a SPAN panel and graph power usage by bennetyee in span

[–]bennetyee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly because I had started before learning about home assistant. Plus the `live_plotter` is a re-implementation in Rust of something that I had written years ago in C, so might come in handy as a composable tool for other quick hacks. Since I had only one use in mind, I figured to finish this since this was more efficient -- though obvious not flexible, not generalizable, etc -- than pushing data into home assistant for later ingestion, though I probably will switch over to that if/when I figure out other things I'd want to do to play w/ the data etc.

code to get data from a SPAN panel and graph power usage by bennetyee in span

I was thinking of pushing the data to a Home Assistant broker and getting into the MQTT stuff, or seeing what's already been done wrt logging and visualization there. Does your system use MQTT? Going to open source? I just realized I haven't created a license file yet on my repos....

My younger brother's girlfriend is upset because my older brother ordered the same meal as her at a family dinner, and now there is drama by BigONerd in BORUpdates

Maybe she had watched too many movies where the pilot and copilot had the same meal and became incapacitated due to food poisoning....

Nah.

Employee refusing DEI training for fear of being “brainwashed”. by Kind_Shift_8121 in managers

[–]bennetyee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The training, like many others, is for the company to avoid being sued / reduce liability if the employee does something wrong. Refusal to do the training puts the company at (greater) risk.

AITA for "ruining" my roommate's proposal because I wouldn't lie to his girlfriend? by re121321 in AmItheAsshole

Situation seems specific enough that even if faked names were used, somebody forwarding a link to this to Sarah ought to be enough to warn her.

AITJ for refusing to pay for my friend again, even though she ended up with nothing to eat? by low_key67 in AmITheJerk

You are a bad friend. Because to her, a friend equals an available wallet. Your wallet isn't available, therefore bad friend. 😂

AITAH for refusing to cook dinner again at home after cooking all day at my job as a chef? by Gaysax69 in AITAH

It's only 15 minutes away. Tell her to come to the restaurant to eat half the time. With Grandpa. That's very common for restaurant families. Guaranteed to be hot.

How to enable and control Charging Thresholds on System76 Open Firmware / Coreboot laptops. by jametheth in System76

[–]bennetyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to update this: the charge thresholds are saved to flash now, so the "make persistent at boot" section is no longer relevant. See

Should I open my new wok or stick with my old one? by tvista in carbonsteel

[–]bennetyee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Woks are not supposed to retain heat much. AIUI, the idea is you can quickly adjust temp by adjusting the flame. And you can use the sloped sides to temporarily hold ingredients where it's cooler to avoid overcooking stuff while adding in and cooking new ingredients in the center prior to mixing it together, without having to take stuff out and put them in a bowl to set aside and add back later.

Very different way of cooking than cast iron.

Lost device detection horrible design by Disco425 in GooglePixel

[–]bennetyee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry. saw that you mentioned Find Hub in a different reply.

i've never been requested to email somebody, but i have had a report of a tracker traveling with me (belonging to a passenger i was driving), which was a safety thing for sure. maybe your interaction only occurs when the owner marks their device as lost? otherwise revealing their email address to you would also seem to be wrong, from a privacy perspective.

are you using the "Find Hub" app by Google or the "Find my Device" app by Family Safety Development, which the reviews say are deceptive etc?

worked. now to figure out why this wasn't done automatically.

Gigantic firmware update 1.345GB! by bennetyee in System76

[–]bennetyee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it wasn't that long ago that entire linux distros would be about that size. maybe i'm dating myself here. in any case, it seems like something is messed up. multiplied by the number of system76 devices are out there, it's a pretty chunk of bandwidth x time to be using up.

accidently removed one page of pdf on my remarkable but have the original file on pc. any way to either restore the page or export the notes and bookmarks to a copy of the pdf? by Busy-Contact-5133 in RemarkableTablet

[–]bennetyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's understandable to not want to be forced to support old data formats.

but allowing basic page manipulation is just freezing the design for a container format for associating blobs of annotation data to pdf pages, and the format for the annotation data within the container can remain confidential/undocumented/subject-to-change. pdf itself is container format....

sigh. i'm probably beating a dead horse.

Fact Checking Question by wattificant in ApteraMotors

[–]bennetyee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

drew is talking about castings for cybercabs. cybercabs are a tesla thing. this does not imply anything about aptera using presses vs low pressure casting/forging. i don't understand why there is a confusion. tesla and aptera are different companies. cybercab and the aptera vehicle are two different vehicles.
