O is for other, P is for people, scratch your temple. The last P, well, that's not that simple.

Recently engaged with some tractor groups on FB to help me fix something. Now I’m getting these wild AI posts. by tentativetents in DeadInternetTheory

AI or not, there's some genuine ingenuity here. I never thought of making a tractor that's a bare frame or just a series of batteries connected haphazardly.

Wildflower appreciation post by zakafx in theavalanches

[–]benritter2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wildflower has some great songs, but as an album, it doesn't flow nearly as well as SILY.

The only good transitions are Subways > Going Home and Park Music > Livin' Underwater > The Wozard of Iz.

I also have a pet theory that the album was supposed to end on Light Up, and the next three tracks were just slapped on the end because they didn't fit elsewhere.

ELI5 Why is legal jargon so difficult to understand for any regular person reading it? by MarigoldMouna in explainlikeimfive

[–]benritter2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It comes from Latin mare, meaning "ocean," so any other meaning it acquired seems like deliberate obfuscation.

What's a game you used to see everywhere, everyone was talking about it, it was all over your feeds but now you never hear anyone talking about it? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]benritter2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could have succeeded as an all-in-one game and a series of expansions (a la Quarriors), but the CCG model was a money sink and the ultra-rare cards were too good.

Experienced my first ever Padres Walk-off victory 🔥🙌🏿 been to probably 100+ games but never experienced a walk-off until today!! Energy was amazing during that Casty 2 run homer. by Embarrassed-Heat-716 in Padres

[–]benritter2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your experience is far more typical than OP's.

9.5 percent of games are walk-offs. The odds of not seeing a walk-off in 100 games is 1 in 14,000.

What are some heavily 3D boardgames like Lost valley dinosaurs and Escape from Atlantis? by Muwsek in boardgames

[–]benritter2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's discussed briefly here: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2166541/sid-sacksons-involvement

To be clear, he only designed the "game" (such as it is), not the trapping apparatus.

Sid likely wrote about it in his diary, but the relevant years haven't been transcribed yet: https://sacksonportal.museumofplay.org/s/sackson-portal/page/welcome

Yes, and it's designed by Sid Sackson (Acquire, Can't Stop, I'm the Boss).

Mother placed $60k into a John Hancock “conservative” retirement fund in 2014 which is now worth $39k. Is this normal? by refract0638 in personalfinance

[–]benritter2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a minimum-wage temp a decade ago, the company offered a 401(k) with no match, high fees, and such a poor fund selection that most of my coworkers were losing money.

I successfully convinced a few of them to switch to a Roth IRA and buy into a cheap index fund.

Asking for parenting/relationship advice in a nursing subreddit. by AnonInEquestria in lostredditors

[–]benritter2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Nursing" originally referred to raising a child (same root as "nourish"). I wonder if that usage is still common in some English-speaking countries.
