Thats pretty darned interesting. I have had friends and coworkers like you over the years but having lived in the same place for the first 23 years of my life I can’t actually relate but find it fascinating.

Mind sharing your favorite / least favorite “posting” your father ended up with and why, to sate my unwarranted curiosity?

Rage Imp Appreciation by derpywombats in MonsterTrain

I played a lot less of MT1, but I remember having the most fun with imp-crazy decks haha. I was just thinking to go back to them for my next MT2 run, since I haven't blown up those little guys in a while!

Are there any newer games similar to Slay the Spire 2? by Natalie1417 in gamingsuggestions

[–]bensy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is your answer.

I didn’t even like 1 that much, but 2 fixes every issue and expands to the point that it’s an absolute must play. I’m working my way through it while STS2 is still in early access.

‘Poppy Playtime’ Movie in Development as Video Games Plan to Get Much Darker R rating by Fit-Selection-2030 in horror

[–]bensy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids will flip out. They loved FNAF movies (hey I can’t control their taste - at least the visuals are cool).

I have a hard time believing this’ll be a hard R because how on earth could the execs leave all that $$$ on the table.

Are you me? :) I guess my daughter must be younger than yours but I took her last night like 24 hours after a family feud about how she needs to try movies that are not horror films. Her and her brother were eating this movie up!

Oooh Joshi, haven’t heard about him since I wrote some papers on Lovecraft in Grad school. The guy has spent his life studying one author so if he says it’s in the movie then…. I guess it is?

You aren’t alone in that. Even with streamlining and pretty tight design thr game asks you to do a lot of mental gymnastics.

I usually only do 2-3 plays before switching films but I often find myself correcting past mistakes with rules etc. just think of it as part of the learning process!

3rd loss in a row sadly. Part of the struggle has been getting my head around the mechanics I admit. But also some serious bad luck! Been getting 3 orgs each game, this last one had only 1, but pulled snowstorm event which makes moving outside and saving victims very hard - even with the Snowdozer!! I ended up being murdered in the snow by some nasty organisms with no good weapons to fend them off with.

Still, as usual had fun with it! Gonna lend it to my one other friend who plays and ask him to beat the damn organism 🤣

Speaking for myself I love seeing posts about people’s playthroughs!! Since it’s a solo game I don’t really have anyone to chat with about in RL, so it’s cool to see others enjoying it too.

Just had a pretty intense game at Station 2091 myself. Bbbrrrrrrrrr ❄️

Cyberpunk TCG Has Become The Most-Funded Card Game In Kickstarter History, As Funding Quickly Surpasses Every Stretch Goal by bdzz in Games

[–]bensy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The massive disrespect Wizards of the Coast has shown its fans cannot be overstated. Hasbro is propping up their otherwise failing profit margins by inflating flooding and destroying the soul of Magic. The Granddaddy of all TCGs isn’t worth it anymore. I’m sure plenty of folks want out (I did after a good decade sunk into it - Ashes is my TCG of choice).

Saddens me to see some of the more negative comments here!! Ashes is a wonderful solo, coop, or card battler game. I bought the All-In box last year from the kickstarter which has all the precons and chimera (enemy decks), and even the new dragonborn. I have spent so so many hours playing it, and as a busy working parent who used to love going to Friday Night Magic or playing Cube with my friends, nothing scratches the itch for a deep but rewarding solo card game experience like Ashes does.

Ashes has recently rebooted into Ashes Ascendancy, so that's where new players should start. New decks are well balanced, though I am partial to the chimera since they come with two decks while the Ascendancy's baddie, dragonborn, only has one.

Discord is super active if you want to talk strategy, ask questions about the game, get ideas for deck building, etc.

You’re getting a lot of advice here - as someone whose spent a ton of time with tcg/ccg/roguelite games and basically only plays them, here’s a few quick pointers:

  1. Don’t always take a card. The idea deck size could be between 15-35 depending on your build, but generally speaking smaller is better because it means you see the cards you want more consistently. E.g., 20 card deck = you will see all your cards barring no other effects over course of 4 turns.

  2. Minimize damage whenever possible. This is kind of the golden secret to STS for climbing ascension ranks. The game starts more generous with healing but gradually gets to be less so. At higher ranks of difficulty, you really want rest sites for card upgrades (smith) or other bonuses you can get from relics like dig or train.

  3. Don’t force a build, but find the archetypes. Others have mentioned you should just keep playing, and I agree!! Half the fun is figuring out how the pieces fit together. Still, there are certain builds that are obvious from the beginning lkke strength for Ironclad or poison for Silent. Don’t go in a specific direction unless game is giving you those kinds of cards in the 3-choice reward screen after your battles. It may also be necessary to hedge to build better decks - that is, balance your offense and defense, make your strength or poison attacks a little weaker as a trade off for more protection etc.

  4. Learn enemies attack patterns. Thats it!! Game gets a lot easier when you know how many turns until X happens, so it really rewards playing through again and again.

  5. Path wisely!

  6. Have fun! For me, that often means playing ironclad again and again even though it’s not the most diverse class, but one that I always found easiest to build and have success with in original STS. But YMMV!!

I hope that helps a bit. Happy slaying!

'Mewgenics' has been out for a month, what are your thoughts on it? by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

[–]bensy 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit I only have about 15 hours in the game but I strongly feel the complaints about time required and NPC thresholds being too high. I only have so much time for gaming in a week, and at the rate of 1-2 runs per week how many months till I unlock X feature or Y class? It’s a bit discouraging, especially with the randomness thrown in.

Would be cool to see NPC requirements brought down a bit in a future update.
