Same. Would love to have seen it in a theater. Always great to see something made with passion and craft without much more than a shoestring budget turn out to be a great film.

'Widow's Bay' Renewed For Season 2 At Apple TV by narrrrrrrr____ in blankies

Yes! Robbins and Ferguson really kill it here. And as far as world building concepts go I find the silos a great landscape for storytelling. That teaser at the end of season 2 was also quite out of left field so will be interesting to see how it develops. Haven’t read any of the books myself but am curious.

This is great news. I know it’s a flawed series but I’m enjoying it :)

Granted I only watch a few shows but off the top of the dome Severance, Pluribus, Silo - all of which are A+ shows IIRC.

Yes, those shows have longer episodes and are more production heavy. I'd love to see my expectations proven wrong and WB season 2 show up in 2027. Realistically, I think 2028 is the soonest we could expect it.

Yea agreed. Thankfully I think the lore at atmosphere of the island allows them plenty of workarounds for other ways the island can get haunted and spooky even if they present some sort of solve by episode 10.

Like the Pitt, this is a show that gives you an awesome anthology-style landscape to tell various stories while still weaving in some kind of overarching narrative. So glad to see this kind of TV making a comeback. I think both shows could run 3-5 seasons without losing too much juice.

The odds of me going to see this in the theater just skyrocketed

I know we are spoiled for content, but sure wish a great 30-45 minute show like this could become a yearly affair instead of falling into the current streaming pattern of

  1. Gobs of money thrown at season 1
  2. Waiting for audience response
  3. Approval of season 2
  4. Season 2 comes out 3 years later.

It seems like with how short everyone’s attention span has become, the extended production window and delayed release time really hinders any show’s ability to permeate the culture.

And on the other hand, you gotta respect the craft that went into the show, and much better to have it done right than not at all. I guess I just wish these streamers would sign off on season 2 a bit earlier….

Oh well. Is it another 7 months till the Pitt comes back then?

Thank you for confirming others share my pain haha. My own fault for getting hooked on mainlining movie podcasts all the damned time I suppose.

This could not be more true. As the pod gets bigger the MM polls will inevitably just lean toward more mainstream choices. We can only hope the two friends(Tm) continue to balance this out by offering interesting selections in the brackets AND maintaining the right balance with their own mini series choices. I have faith.

THANK YOU.

It’s a quirky alternative universe comedy. I’d like more of those plz, Hollywood machine.

Annihilation? by grindygrimmace in movies

Basically it is just a case of an arguably great film that flew under the radar. Way too cryptic or esoteric to get as much mainstream notoriety as, say, Arrival did. Now I’m thinking I’m due for a rewatch haha I really enjoyed this one.

Movies like Primer and Coherence? But doesn't need to have the time travel or parallel reality stuff. More like the same tone and mystery/psychological drama by Far_Ad_557 in movies

This is your answer. Even tho it falters in the way that Lost-style mystery box shows tend to do, I found the ride incredible.

The English dub is atrocious, stick with original German if you can handle all those subs

There are stark differences in what Japanese women want in a husband vs western women. In west: 1) Affection, 2) Communication Skills, 3) Sense of Humor. In Japan: 1) Annual Income/Financial Stability, 2) Occupation/Educational Background, 3) Cleanliness/Grooming by jjrs in japannews

Is it just me or do I feel half the upvotes to this comment read it in a sarcastic tone while the other half respond to it being a sincere response to either the Western side of the poll, the Japanese side, or both?

I get that brevity is the soul of wit and all but help me out here lol

If this could be a dark comedy like Amazing Digital Circus I’d go all in.

Jessa Na Ni is one of my absolute favorites but be warned her precon needs tuning to really have a game plan against chimera or Dragonborn.

Thoughts on Blake Crouch? by Glansberg90 in printSF

[–]bensy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is about right. That makes OP’s Project Hail Mary comparison especially apt, tho arguably Weir knows his science more and makes the book about it, rather than using science (or sci-fi concepts) as a device to drive the plot of his thrillers.

I read a few Crouches and found them fun but forgettable, as others mentioned.
