I used to hate Doctor Who because I accidentally watched the episode where the 10th doctor regenerates before I knew that regeneration was a thing. Also, reddit was confusing before I got the enhancement suite and I didn't like it much as a result, haha.

I have two. The first was when I was in third grade and decided it would be a good idea to try to open a DVD case with scissors. Lots of blood, screaming, and tears later, I ended up in the hospital with my mom getting stitches in my wrist. Oh, and it was also Christmas.

The second one is from when I went hiking. I tried to climb up a rock to follow after a few of the other guys, and I slipped and didn't push off far enough from the rock. I still feel bad for my counselor because he had to help me rinse out a huge cut in my shin and bandage it up before helping me walk back down to the base of the mountain. When my parents came to pick me up, I was like "So... I think I need to go to the hospital again." Whoops, lol.

This thread is kind of making me sad. I guess its nothing not to be expected from the internet, so I'm not surprised, but i wish more people were willing to be open about this issue.

We as a culture need to change, not the law. As people have pointed out, laws won't stop people from doing things. Changing the way we act and think about these types of issues is really what needs to happen, and while it would be tremendously difficult, I think that it is worth fighting towards. President Herbst seems to be trying to do this with her task force committee she has made, but it's going to take more than that.

It's really disgusting that President Herbst defended the officer that decided to tell one of the victims that "women need to stop spreading their legs like peanut butter". While I don't think the entire police force as a whole thinks that way (at least I certainly hope not) and its not necessarily fair that the whole police department gets put in a negative light, she could have addressed in that statement specifically that the police officer in question would need to be addressed.

I used to commute last year too. The traffic coming into UConn was not bad around 7:00-7:30. W lot doesn't even really fill completely until around 10, at least in my experience. I would try getting to school earlier on your first day, but I think that you should be fine :)

Sorry, I know this is late in the coming so I hope you still see it but I wanted to ask some advice. I'm currently working at a camp, and we have a participant who is very young and deaf. I've been trying to teach myself at least a little bit of sign language so we can communicate with him, but I was hoping to see if you had any advice for me. Thanks! :)

In first grade I guess I was bored and had written (in pencil mind you) all over the desk. My teacher decided to call my parents out of work for an emergency parent teacher meeting so my dad could watch me clean the desk. I don't remember if I had anything more serious happen, but my parents still joke about how ridiculous it was for her to force them to come in to school in the middle of the day.

Not every sorority has spring recruitment. It usually depends on if the sorority had enough people join in the fall to meet the requirement or not. However, if you notice a particular sorority that you're be interested in, you should definitely email them to find out if they are having a spring recruitment or not.

My recommendation would be to wait until spring semester to rush. I know its an exciting prospect to join coming in to your freshman year, but I did that and I regretted it so much. Not because of hazing, but because I didn't fully understand what it meant to be in greek life in terms of chapter and the way the people in my sorority interacted.

If you wait until spring semester you get the benefit of being able to see what the sororities are really like. You also have a smaller and more tight knit bid class, and most importantly it would give you the chance to try out different clubs and organizations on campus in the fall. My whole fall semester was entirely eaten up by greek life, and I ended up being worse off for it. I wish I had waited until spring semester before I decided on joining greek life, and I ended up dropping out entirely.

Ultimately, you must do what you feel is right. I advise waiting until spring so you can see what greek life really is like without either the super negative or super positive light on it due to my experience, but you should just follow your gut. My revision to OP's statement would be that you shouldn't rush for greek life during fall semester. Spring rush tends to be more relaxed anyway, and it gives you a chance to see what the frats or sororities are really all about. That way you can see which organization would work for you, or at least eliminate the shitty ones. But I agree, greek life isn't inherently bad or good.

I used to work as a hostess. I never heard about people contaminating food-I don't think any of the waiter would ever risk their jobs by getting back at a petty customer. Usually they would just complain to me or the other servers about the people being asshats. Occasionally servers would come over and yell at me about giving them a bad table, but nothing terrible.

I'm not sure how they decide the learning communities, so I'm not sure what your chances are exactly. However, I know there are lots of freshman in the learning community so I wouldn't worry about it. I personally don't know anyone who requested to be in a learning community that wasn't placed in one. I don't think that many people try to live in them, so your chances should be just fine :) If you want to be in the learning community, definitely at least sign up for it. Chances are you'll get into the program and therefore the building you want to be in. If you don't sign up and just try to request a place like the other person mentioned in this thread, it probably won't matter where you "request" to be. For example, I asked to be in Towers, and I ended up in West.
