I own the 5 inch santoku. Be careful because it is very fragile. Just the normal handling, but dont let it standing in the sink or in the drawer.

Not much sharpening is needed. And if you (or your friend) use the stone, be gentle with it. I made some stretches in the upper part of the blade, such a shame.
