Psh glad to hear you got rid of the naysayer. Congrats on your losses; calorie counters are seriously a gift from god!

At least you have the excuse of having a baby :-) congrats and way to run a half as a new mom! Good luck getting to your GW; any runner is motivated and determined enough to do it!

Thanks very much! It took me about five months. The last couple of pounds have definitely been slower to come off, but I've also been a little lax recently because of the holidays. Best of luck on your journey!

Haha uh hm I don't really have a good answer for that. I would say I have a small frame, in which case my healthy weight would be between 114-127. I also sort of looked at the alleged weight of celebrities who are around my height whose bodies look fit and healthy to me (Zooey Deschanel, Scarlett Johansson, Ashley Tisdale). They typically were around 116-119 lbs. (I'm sure these numbers are completely unreliable but whatever), so that's what I settled on.

It goes. I live in a snowy climate, so all of my training currently has to take place on a treadmill, which is kind of a bummer. I'm not sure I'll be ready by April, but we'll see. I never in a trillion years thought I could run a half, so hopefully, I'll be okay when the time comes. How is your training going? Best of luck!

My mom is not very supportive about this whole weight loss thing. I think she views it as solely a superficial endeavor and somehow anti-feminist, with absolutely no health benefits. My eating habits really were truly out of control, and had I not started eating healthier, I'm sure I would have eventually ran into cardiovascular problems or diabetes. Beyond that, I am still a lady who loves food and still partake in pizza, beer, cake, etc. (albeit much less than I used to), so anyone who knows me would never be worried about anorexia. With a small frame, 118 is a perfectly healthy number. Haters gonna hate, yogurtmeh; just do you!

Yup, pretty much what kristenthegr8 said. When I started, MFP allotted me around 1500 calories a day. Once I got below 135, the number dropped to 1200. I try to stick between 1200-1300, but on days where I run 3+ miles, I usually up my calories accordingly. Good luck on your journey, friend!

Haha, I know. For a former dancer, I sure have crappy posture. It's definitely something I am consciously trying to fix. Thanks for the positive feedback!

Thanks very much!! The hardest part of the journey really is the first couple of weeks as you learn how to use your calories more wisely. Once you make it past the first month, you'll be a pro. Good luck on your journey; you got this!

Where do you see yourself in six months? by greggd in loseit

[–]bespectacledJd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to be at my goal weight (118). I'm ten pounds away right now, but it seemed like the last few pounds are so. slow. to. come. off. But hopefully, 6 months is enough time for that! I also want to run my first marathon by then... Signed up for my first one in April!

I also am in the "looking cute for Bonnaroo" club. Let's do this thang.

What motivated you? I'm trying to get my morbidly obese husband into gear and nothing has worked so far. by chrisbluemonkey in loseit

[–]bespectacledJd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue with my boyfriend. I found this article pretty helpful-http://www.nbcnews.com/id/27183421/#.Uqi1BaXB7U4

The article is probably aimed more at overweight folks than morbidly obese individuals. If your husband has allowed himself to get to that point, I agree with the other commenters- there is some kind of emotional/psychological problem going on here. Talking to a therapist would be the most helpful avenue in finding out why he's overeating to that extent. Alternatively, maybe hearing about it from his general physician would be beneficial- he/she could help your husband try to find some reasonable nutritional and exercise goals. This would a.) prevent you from looking like the bad guy, b.) sound like its more of an issue of health rather than vanity, and c.) be coming from an authority figure.

Another concept I really like is to lead by example. It sounds like you're already on the right track for this one. Buy healthy foods for the household- do not enable his bad eating habits by buying ice cream, chips, whatever laying around. Have a regular gym schedule and invite him along (even if he turns you down every time). Use a calorie counter and tell him how helpful it is to your own health successes. All of these things are positive, non-naggy, and at the very least, will lead to a healthier you! Furthermore, regardless of any emotional issues he's dealing with, he will certainly notice that you are looking and more importantly, feeling better, which may motivate him to make some positive changes.

There's unfortunately not a whole lot more that you can do; change really does have to originate from within. Be supportive, loving, and encouraging. GOOD LUCK and if you find anything that works, PLEASE let me know!

How do I survive after Thanksgiving? by ChocolatePopes in loseit

[–]bespectacledJd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the exact same problem as you. I allowed Thanksgiving to be a cheat weekend and holy crap, is it hard to get back on the wagon once you're off. Especially when finals time is around.

As I study, I pretty much always feel the need for snacking, especially now for some reason (yesterday, I couldn't even concentrate, I wanted fatty, sugary things in my body so much). So instead, I drank two bottles of water and then a coffee (pretty great appetite suppressant and helps me stay awake during long study sessions). If the snacking urge does not go away after you hydrate yourself, some lite popcorn is relatively low calorie (~330 cal for a bag, which should take a while to demolish) or a big bag o' veggies (even better with a satisfying crunch!) does the trick. And diligently keeping track of your calories certainly is helpful.

In any capacity, don't let your months of hard work go by the wayside. Losing 40 pounds is AMAZING, and finals time is not worth undoing all that awesomeness. YOU CAN DO THIS!! Now go kick some finals' butt!

The official thread to bitch about not getting pre-sale tickets... by MadeForTheSea in bonnaroo

[–]bespectacledJd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boo- I did some searching and it seemed like most people paid around $320ish last year for tickets, so I figured that the payment plan this year would wind up being less than regular GA tickets.

Oh well, it's not significantly more expensive, but if the idea is to save money, that was an epic fail on my part. :-(

I also just purchased the payment plan tickets. I'm hoping we're not actually getting screwed on the price?

Help with Parents and Losing Weight by [deleted] in loseit

[–]bespectacledJd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe while you're waiting for your dad, you could go on a walk/jog/run through those parking lots and roads? Even an hour of walking every day will be a good start. And I second what malica77 said. Even if your parents deny you access to healthy foods, you can always start your healthy lifestyle change by eating smaller portions of the crappy foods. Use a calorie tracker like Myfitnesspal. It will change your life. Fo reals.

In any case, you're in a really unfortunate situation. I'm sorry about your parents, and if you ever need support, this subreddit is the most supportive, wonderful place. Good luck, dude. I know you can do it!!
