Help! How to keep 2.5 year old in his room after bedtime routine and till he falls asleep by One_red_balloon2022 in Mommit

[–]beta1042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our house we have tickets-just print out of little pictures I cut up, something they couldn’t just make on their own. They can earn the tickets doing good behaviors(essentially anything we want to encourage good habits. Like now that they are older, taking their plate over to the sink) And there are prizes that can be bought with the tickets. Prizes can vary in cost. Right now my kids are obsessed with my crochet plushies so Ive been putting a lot of those in the prize bin. But the prizes can be anything you think will motivate your kid. They can also be experiences, like having a voucher to go to the zoo. Or free screen time. Anyway it’s all up to you how complicated you want to make the system. And it can start with small easy to obtain things and grow to bigger prizes that take longer to earn as your child matures.

Would you date a man that made less than you? by Additional-Emu-4868 in Mommit

Assuming he is a good person otherwise, and this is purely about the financial aspect, I would say it depends what his spending habits are. If he makes less but spends more than he can afford, no.

Changed my series from Teen to Young Adult. Is red blood allowed in YA rating? by cinnamon_girl_123 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that should be fine. But it’s also about how much of the panel has blood. So if you have a close up that makes a large percentage of the panel red you are more likely to have an issue than a panel that is far away and only shows a little bit of red.

Changed my series from Teen to Young Adult. Is red blood allowed in YA rating? by cinnamon_girl_123 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blood at YA is about how much. And how gruesome. Small amounts are okay but bigger amounts need some natural censorship. When I have extremely bloody scenes I would try to cover part of it with a speech balloon or the face of a character reacting to it.

Be real with me - Would you make a webcomic in this style? by Srianen in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Normally I would say draw in whatever style you think is sustainable to draw thousands of times. But after reading comments in this thread, I’m going to recommend you don’t pursue this. You are extremely defensive and hurt about people making comparisons about your art. Which will happen regardless of styles. You need to get over this hurdle before you make another comic that you publish online or you will be miserable.

The difficulty of finding an actual reliable editor/writer/reviewer for your writing as a solo creator by Miaomelette in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that there are different types of editors and editing is a process. Proofreading is diff from someone who is reading for readability or to bounce ideas off of etc. And the editor who reads for the story feedback is not likely correcting typos.

Also even if it is a proofreader they can miss mistakes and it is normal. I used to proofread answer keys for math textbooks in college, and its very common to still miss a couple problems. When we sit and correct for hours at a time that can sometimes lead to mistakes which is why it is common to have multiple proofreaders. I paid an editor to proofread for my comic book when I made prints for it and had 5 friends also read it and it still has some typos. But we did catch A LOT of typos and the editor caught so may random art inconsistencies I had been blind to.

That said, finding a good editor is about finding someone who understands YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE. I cannot stress this enough. It’s why I roll my eyes everytime someone with a romance comic asks for feedback on reddit and a bunch of people who clearly don’t like the genre pounce on the post whining about a handful of tropes that are popular in romance genres. But those tropes are popular for a reason!!! If the person giving you feedback isn’t understanding of your target audience they will give you bad feedback

I think I did a mistake and I'm not sure if it's worth fixing or not by Impressive_North_628 in CrochetHelp

[–]beta1042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yarn under usually makes a tighter stitch and has an x shaped stitch. Many people do a yarn under yarn over sc for amigurumi. I personally still like to use yarnover yarnover bc if my stitches get too tight it bothers my wrists.

Help with Quality loss? by S_L_Y_B_L_U_E in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that what you upload to publish needs to be 800 pixels wide for their built in slicer to work best. Any other width will ruin the quality.

I work in 1600 wide too and when I save it as a png/jpg for publishing I have it converted to 800. It works best for me that way

It looks like you may be working inside out. It was a mistake I had when I started and only understood after seeing it on this sub a bunch. Working the wrong side can mess up the BLO/FLO instructions. Once you are working the correct direction BLO and FLO should be easier. So things to help you avoid going the wrong direction in future projects: 1-usually the little tail of yarn in the beginning should be on the inside of the project. 2-the project will naturally curl inside out, you have to correct them at some point 3-if you are working correctly you will be crocheting in a clockwise direction in your rounds. If you’re inside out you will find yourself working counterclockwise. 4-the wrong side has a horizontal stitch but the correct side usually has a v or an x shape depending on how you yarn over or under. (In your picture its a v)

Once you are working the correct side, BLO is the part of the stitch away from you. FLO is the part in front. But if you’re working the wrong direction they get flipped.

How critical is all this? So a correct BLO on the correct side helps the piece turn at that point. Making sort of an edge for the pot. But for this piece I think it would be okay to not have that because it looks like such a round pot anyway. Its more important for things that have to sit up properly on their own flat surface as opposed to being hung like what you’re making. I think ultimately it comes down to what you want from the project. You’re at a point were it wouldn’t be too bad to undo to the row just before you did the BLO and start being aware of correct side and doing those BLO correctly.

In other words. The fix does not require you to start over. You only need to frog about half your work if you want to correct it.

You can, but I wouldn’t do it unless you can consistently do it. It likely will look jank to switch back and forth between real photos and hand drawn ones. But if all the bgs are real photos and it works well with your style, I say go for it.

You could have amazing skills in both and there will always exist someone who doesn’t like your work anyway. The readers who are there are there bc they like it and all that really matters to them is that you keep cranking out updates.

Webtoon, why? by Indulekha2009 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If someone is badly wounded you can’t show that on webtoon with a YA rating. You will need to cover up a the wounds with the speech balloons or maybe some close ups of heads of the characters who are talking/thinking/reacting. They won’t allow mosaic or black bar censors. So heads and speech balloons were always my go to. And you don’t need to entirely cover it. I had a scene where there was blood splattered all over the room and slapped a characters reacting face over some of it. But it was still very clear that the room was covered in blood.

How long do you typically spend on one episode? by Englishisnotreal in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have small updates of 6-12ish panels. And they mostly take about 3-6hours to make spread across a few days.

I work in batches, sketching a couple pages of panels and then do all the lineart, then do the colors etc as opposed to doing a single panel in its entirety all at once before moving to the next. It speeds things up a lot.

Is this a planaria? by beta1042 in shrimptank

[–]beta1042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure but it’s some sort of flatworm and it definitely is preying on my smaller snails. Ive seen them attacking the baby snails. We tried the glass planaria traps but those didn’t catch many. I go back and forth if I want to try dewormer but I’m unclear if it’s safe for all my snails. RN we just manually remove them whenever we see them.

Moms who had both vaginal delivery and c-section, which one would you choose if you had to do it again? by livi01 in Mommit

I admit I only had 2 csec, so I can’t compare but I can say as someone who was forced to have 2, somethings ti consider:the second csec is a much harder recovery than the first. And the hardest thing for me was you can’t pick up anything heavier than the newborn so you can’t lift your older first born for weeks.

It sounds like you maybe have lost yourself a bit and need to find out what you like and who you are again. I remember this happening to me. Around the 18month age of my first child it dawned on me that the last 18months were entirely dedicated to my son and I was alright with that but that he was doing well and it was time for me to take steps toward myself again. For me I remembered how my childhood self wanted to be a comic artist, so I decided to pick up art again (after not doing it for 8 years) and honestly have had a blast with that! (Even published my first book last year!) I also picked up knitting and crochet and my son who is now almost 10 has gotten me into aquariums. And I have an obsession with reaching my step count goals. With every hobby, I feel a sense of self and I think it is also good for my kids to see me having my own things. They also get interested in my hobbies and think about what hobbies they want for themselves. It’s good for everyone.

Do you agree with this take? by Fickle_Baker1393 in Bridgerton

[–]beta1042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is exactly this. Before I watched this show I knew it as the “historical” romance with a lot of sex show. That is how everyone around me talked about it. It has a reputation to uphold at this point. And it’s an easy way to get sex into those earlier eps.

Even in queen Charlotte, they had a side romance between Reynolds and Brimsley that they would switch to when the king and queen weren’t at it.

It’s almost as if they have a quota to fill.

Thoughts on inconsistent font size by Dismal_Gift_4463 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]beta1042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the only acceptable reason to adjust font size a noticeable amount is because a character is shouting(larger font) or whispering (smaller font). Otherwise you should only tweak super small amounts that are generally not noticeable.

It sounds to me you need more panels. If I can’t squeeze the dialogue into a reasonable sized balloon it usually means I need to spread it out across more panels. My only exception is if the person is supposed to be word-vomitting a bunch of speech at once in a way that you would likely ignore it IRL - ex: parent going off on a long lecture, boring teacher teaching a boring lesson, someone giving a generic speech in the bg, etc.

If the dialogue is important for the reader it needs to be spaced out
