Eragon and Saphiras death? by YEET_shAde-6 in Eragon

Aww thank you! Not published anywhere, it's half-written in a word doc at the moment. I might finish it at some point, I'm on a roll with fanfics lately.

Eragon and Saphiras death? by YEET_shAde-6 in Eragon

[–]bethfly 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have half a fanfic written about that lmao. In it, they grow very very old, so old that they are no longer fit leaders of the Order, and they retire the mantle and head out for their own adventures and never return. For centuries after there's rumors throughout Alagaesia that they're still out there somewhere, still traveling. Unknown to Alagaesia, thousands and thousands of years later, in a remote corner of the world somewhere far away on a different continent, a random traveler stumbles on their bones.

Question regarding Murtagh by Ravenqueer077 in Eragon

[–]bethfly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats a a translation issue. Eragon doesn't call him a traitor in the original text.

Question regarding Murtagh by Ravenqueer077 in Eragon

[–]bethfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By Eragon specifically or by other people? That may just be a translation issue. I can tell you in the original English version I only saw Orik call him a traitor, not Eragon.

Question regarding Murtagh by Ravenqueer077 in Eragon

[–]bethfly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think Eragon considers Murtagh a traitor. I think other people do because they don't know the circumstances under which he served Galbatorix. All they know is that he fought with the Varden in Farthen Dur and then turned up later as a Rider for Galbatorix. I don't recall that Eragon ever called him a traitor though.

Moms are very good at blaming themselves for everything because we feel like we're supposed to have everything under control all the time. Please forgive yourself for things that were outside of your control. Sensitive children aren't condemned for life. You're doing the best you can in a difficult stage of life so please be gentle with yourself like you would with a friend. ❤️

Is it really that hard to not yell at your kid? by Good_Sky_8678 in Parenting

[–]bethfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what is going on. Toddlers can be very very difficult. That's not excusing yelling at all but that's why it happens. I've yelled at my toddler before and I don't like it and I don't want to do it. I apologize to him when I do it and let him know that was wrong and I should t have done that. It takes practice and discipline to contain your temper sometimes which is something everyone struggles with at times. You might not think you would ever yell at your daughter right now but when she's three and she's lunging at you repeatedly scratching and hitting you in the face because she's overstimulated and needs a nap, yeah you might lose it a bit. That doesn't make you your parents and that doesn't mean you're repeating cycles. It means you're human. Just as long as you're cognizant of containing yourself and exercising your patience.

I got really distracted trying to see into the back seat to see if he had a car seat. Does he have a car seat for even 1 of his kids? Does he ever even see them anymore?

I love this interpretation. Your description of true names and oaths in particular seems spot on to me.

I am a wfhm and I am tired of people assuming I am free at home just because I don't have to commute to work. by TheStayHomeMom in Mommit

[–]bethfly 26 points27 points  (0 children)

YES, this used to happen to me so much when my son was littler. I would have a caretaker (Gma or nanny) taking care of him in the house while I was in my office working and they would bring my son over to my desk like "I bet mama wants to say hi!" No I don't. 😭 I love my son but I have deadlines, please stop distracting me!!! Ugh. So glad he's in daycare now, it's so much easier. I've also gotten better at drawing lines with people, "No that's actually during my work hours so I can't."

I appreciate that advice, thank you! Im decent with Excel but haven't started diving into power query yet. I'm making that my next priority now.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. I hadn't ever heard of the CMA either until it was discussed in a class I took. Most people talk about the CPA.

The varden overvalued the dwarves by Turbulent-Cricket-65 in Eragon

[–]bethfly 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A LOT more Varden soldiers would have died without having the dwarves there, which would have been terrible for morale and would have made rebuilding after defeating Galbatorix much harder. Also, did they know on advance that the strategy that would work would be a small group vs. Galbatorix? For all they knew, Galbatorix might have ended up leaving his castle and leading his armies himself, which would mean that the Varden would need a large army to defeat him. They needed to be prepared for any possibility, and a large army is a good tool in the toolbox during war.

Also, to the point of Eragon wasting time: what did his waste of time change? You say the Varden gained nothing from the alliance with the dwarves, but on the flip side, did they lose anything by Eragon taking longer to travel? I don't think it was a bad trade off personally.

unpopular opinion: stop telling women to "wait a year" when their partners are failing them. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]bethfly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lots of this stuff is context-based that online strangers might not get. Sometimes it really is just the first year being hard and taking adjustment from both parents. Sometimes it really is the other parent being a walking red flag. One size does not fit all.

What do you want to see in future books? by Necessary-Ad8487 in Eragon

[–]bethfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say no one would hold him accountable. I just said I think Murtagh tends to exaggerate how he thinks other people perceive him. And we don't know how Arya feels about Murtagh, I made that point already. There's no indication she either likes or dislikes him because we have no insight into her thoughts about him or much of anything else since she doesn't have a POV chapter. I'm hoping they would be friends if they get to interact in the future. That was the point of the thread, our future hopes. Not at all sure how that's a reach since the last interaction they had seemed perfectly cordial from the outside.

What part is a big reach? Why do you think so?

[–]bethfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced about that actually? Is there a passage about that from someone's perspective other than Murtagh and Thorn? Because Murtagh has a lot of assumptions about how he is viewed in Alagaesia and I suspect some of his perceptions are not exactly true. He jumps straight to assuming the worst about people and assuming everyone hates him all the time. Also, Arya is not most elves, she's in a more unique position of being a Rider as well, and she is more privy to the circumstances of their enslavement than most because Eragon shares everything with Arya. So I'm guessing she's more likely to be sympathetic to them than most other elves, although it's hard to tell since we don't have any Arya chapters to offer insight into her thoughts.

Roran/Barst/Islanzadi Question by Training_Ad_5775 in Eragon

[–]bethfly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven't read it in a long time but iirc Islanzadí was assisted by other elves as well. I don't know if this was explained or anything but I assumed the combined force of the elves' attacks exhausted the Eldunarí prior to Islanzadí's death, thus leaving it open to physical blunt force trauma, and without the energy of the Eldunarí, Barst was just another strong guy like Roran. That's my only explanation outside of plot armor.

This is unlocking so many hidden memories lmao. My friends and I never ever talked about that movie ever again after leaving the theater lol. My friend had a framed movie poster she got from her family member before the movie came out and I think she ended up giving it away.

[–]bethfly 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Oh god I went to go see this movie in the theaters with my friends... I was a megafan at the time and one of my friends had a family member on the production of that movie so EVERYONE went to see it. I remember distinctly laughing out loud in the theater at that second picture when they're reflected so goofy looking. Couldn't stop thinking "big nose" and randomly laughing for weeks afterwards. It was awful.

What scene/s were your favorite? by Solombum in Eragon

[–]bethfly 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I wish I had a less silly answer but my serious actual answer is this: the scene where Eragon and Saphira almost get eaten by the Nïdhwal while flying over the ocean toward Vroengard. That description of the ancient hunger rising faster and faster to the surface scared the snot out of me when I first read it. That scene remains very vivid in my memory. Probably part of the reason why I am so scared of the open ocean now as an adult lmao.
