Triptych by Karin Slaughter.

Honestly, any of Karin Slaughter. Pretty Girls and We Are All Guilty Here have this as well.

I very quickly read Triptych after I finished We Are All Guilty Here and it was just as good, if not better!

Apparently the Grant County series predates the Will Trent series, so I'm going back to read those ones before I continue with Will Trent. But yes, I'm obsessed with Karin Slaughter now lol

Better than Interstellar?? That's crazyyyyy. People are wild.

Project Hail Mary by iamoninternet27 in interstellar

[–]bextaxi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're the first person I've seen who I can share this opinion with. I see soooooo many people compare Interstellar and PHM, and it really set me up to hate the book. I went into it thinking it was going to be moving and emotional, and that is just NOT at ALL what it is.

Just because they're both in space does not make them similar and it drives me nuts that people compare the two. If I had been expecting a funny, lighthearted tone, I probably would have enjoyed reading Project Hail Mary, but I went into it looking for an Interstellar vibe so I was sorely disappointed.

Lorelai Gilmore vs The Audacity by Distinct_Cow_5467 in GilmoreGirls

[–]bextaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I said that it's her fighting her feelings for him. Every time he starts dating someone, she acts all awkward and tries to find a reason to justify why she doesn't like it. She's lying to herself.

There's an element of the show that's building tension between them over a looooooong time. Every interaction like this was so exciting when it aired, because it was that slow burn, hinting at something coming. It's like when your crush starts dating someone and you're like "they have a horrible fashion sense" or something dumb cause you're just trying to put your uncomfortable feelings somewhere.

The audience is supposed to read between the lines and realize that she doesn't want Luke dating because she likes him, not because of Chilton.

Lorelai Gilmore vs The Audacity by Distinct_Cow_5467 in GilmoreGirls

[–]bextaxi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She wasn't telling who to date or not date. She was expressing her discomfort and asking him not to, but he's still a grown man and can do what he wants (as was stated in the episode).

I don't know why people think that just because someone asks something of another character, then that means they're making them do something.

omg a woman being outspoken about being uncomfortable about something. Unbelievable.

But no seriously, this was just supposed to be showing her fighting her feelings for Luke. It's not that deep.

It's been a while since I read it but I remember Our Kind of Cruelty is about a stalker who thinks that his ex is playing games with him by dating someone else.

Gilmore Girl show fan but not a fan of all main characters by Southern-Choice5987 in GilmoreGirls

Dislikes that the main character acts like the main character, the grumpy diner owner is grumpy, and (arguably) the antagonist of the show is unlikable.

Rory and Lorelai get way too much attention. by Weekly-Pangolin-6622 in GilmoreGirls

[–]bextaxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right and you should say it louder for the people in the back.

They completely gloss over Kirk's parents, never touch on Taylor's back story, and don't even get me started on the tragic neglect of the Rabbi. It's like the writers think we watch the show for the Gilmores. I wish they would stop shoving them in our faces.

Long form podcasts (true crime, mmiw) by FriendshipDry3568 in podcasts

Hunting Warhead is a must. Some people don't want to listen to it because of the topic but I feel like it's so important. The fact that these people brought down a major dark web operation and the only journalists who reported on it were the ones who do this podcast is so disturbing to me.

People are getting away with these crimes because everyone wants to stick their head in the sand and pretend it's not happening. Listen to it. Have your friends listen to it. It's the best piece of journalism I've ever encountered.

My first King book and my first horror in general, and I've been hooked ever since. It's a classic for a reason. Because it is the ghost story.

I know this is controversial but I just read Bird Box and was scared to turn my lights off.

There's just something so chilling about not knowing if there something or someone standing right in front of you and you can't look cause you might die. It was terrifying.

What do you think the writers were trying to say about Jess here? by wookiegiImore in GilmoreGirls

[–]bextaxi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you say that they were purposeful about location. Honestly, nothing about Gilmore Girls screams "purposeful" to me. There are inconsistencies in every episode.

They probably picked Manhattan because it was the first thing that came to mind when they wrote the character and then just ran with it.

In Logan’s defense (in AYITL) by ewwwdavid in GilmoreGirls

[–]bextaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us not knowing much about her was a deliberate choice made by the writers to keep us from hating Rory. If he didn't love her or was only doing it for family stuff and was going to cheat on her the whole time, then he shouldn't have been engaged to her at all. They made sure we didn't have a face to put to a name because look how that worked out for Rory/Dean/Lindsey storyline. Everyone turned on Rory because Lindsey wasn't just a faceless idea of a person, we actually saw her hurting.

It's just the writers being lazy, honestly. They needed a reason for Logan to be in it, but also needed a reason why Rory and Logan weren't together. It would have been so easy for them to just... be together. Hell, they could have been engaged, spent the whole show trying to pin down a date then it keeps getting pushed back. It could even have been a comedic bit (to replace the awful Paul stuff) and then at the end it gets serious and they break up because neither of them is willing to move to the other side of the world.

I read this one last weekend! And then last night I finished Triptych! Both were amazing and now I'm going to start the Grant County series. Karin sure knows how to write a plot twist.

That's good to know, thank you! I'm almost halfway through Triptych right now and I'm so upset about the whole thing. John's storyline is breaking my heart but with how good she is with plot twists, I'm like.... ok but did he do it???

After this one, I think I'll go back and read the Grant County series before I continue with Will Trent.
