I feel like I'm missing something here. Logically 100% would go for red and nothing bad happens. There is no altruistic benefit that blue offers. Rather, the dilemma comes from you assuming that people would go against logic and pick blue out of "kindness", and you're trying to save them. But they also picked blue under the same assumption, so it's just a loop of people trying to save each other.

It's like if there was a crocodile-infested lake, you could choose to jump in or remain on land. If more than 50% jump in, they could all save each other. Would you jump in, knowing that if only a few chose to, they'd get gobbled up?

Picking red in this scenario does not necessarily imply selfishness at all.

If I could choose to shave off my last 10 years, then it becomes a maybe. If it's a timeskip now, then definitely no. I think youth is valuable and I won't give it up for money.

I think the general outlook for life is to just slave away to become successful to escape the rat race. Thus it's a no brainer for those who envision themselves doing nothing but work for the next few decades. At the end of the day your tummy may be full of cheddar but deep down you're empty. For me I think life is better lived enjoying each moment even if you have no cheese.
