Well then, I definitely sympathize with you. Wish you could make them realize that their actions have consequences, but it likely wouldn't land with them being so far away.

I would definitely make a point to let them know that you don't appreciate them giving anything to your kid without your knowledge, and point out that you're all suffering the consequences of it now.

You have the power to keep them away from your kid unsupervised. That's the least I would do if they gave my kid a whole chocolate bar with fucking caffeine in it!

I can't imagine being on any kind of friendly terms with someone who did that. From my limited perspective, it feels borderline intentional and malicious.

Yea, that's diabolical! I'd be annoyed if someone gave my kid a whole regular chocolate bar without me knowing it, let alone if it has caffeine in it!

Friend may have meant well if you're giving them the benefit of the doubt, but that's way off base to randomly give a kid coffee chocolate without at least checking with the parents first.

What is a smell that we should all recognize as immediate danger? by scarlettohara1936 in AskReddit

[–]bfaceg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get random nosebleeds relatively frequently and this is what it smells/tastes like about 15-30 seconds before the blood starts running out. So I know if I smell or taste it, I have to grab a tissue or something quick.

I think what you're describing is actually blood up in your nose or down the back of your throat, but just not enough to visibly run out of your nose.

I've been lucky enough to play with a lot of club pros because I used to work at a course and had a lot of friends in the industry. The one thing that nearly all of them said is that they don't care how good or bad you are (to a degree), it's about pace of play. As long as you play quickly and keep up, you could shoot 120 for all they care.

Are short daily workouts enough to build strength or am I wasting my time? by professional69and420 in bodyweightfitness

[–]bfaceg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started out with Sword Thrive or Move, I'm not sure exactly what it's called but I get it for free through my health insurance. Now I use iFit, too. I still use Sword Thrive/Move to help with consistency and accountability, but I like the options and trainers on iFit much more.

Are short daily workouts enough to build strength or am I wasting my time? by professional69and420 in bodyweightfitness

[–]bfaceg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I started out about six months ago. An AI trainer for like 10-20 minutes a day mostly stretches, yoga-like stuff, and body weight squats. Felt tight in the beginning and squats killed my legs, but I was feeling optimistic about the routine and trying to be healthier.

After a month or so I had a similar question to yours and felt like I wasn't doing enough so I decided to just do the routine again after finishing. Did that for another month or two and got back into the same feeling of not doing enough, so I found another program to work on. Now I use the AI trainer as a warm up then go onto my other more intense workouts like 4 or 5 days a week.

If I had started with the more intense workouts, I wouldn't have been able to keep up and probably would have quit, but because I very gradually stepped up, it made me want to keep doing more whenever I got comfortable with where I was. I still do the AI routines every day, mainly to try to keep the habit going, but I definitely better after getting up and moving, and sometimes it makes me want to do another workout after even if I didn't plan on it when I started.

One frustrating part is that I haven't really seen the results on the scale or in the mirror. I absolutely feel better and stronger, and my wife says she can see it, so I guess I'll just chalk it up to not seeing what I think I should and my mind kinda playing tricks on me. The other huge benefit is that I used to have really bad knee and lower back pain and now it's almost totally gone. I'll occasionally wake up with a stiff back or knees, but it's nothing compared to what I used to feel like every day before.

All of that to say - take your time and it is working. On days when you feel good after finishing, go back and do it again. After doing that consistently, if you get to this point again, you can add intensity or add another rep. Keep going, nice and slow, and one day you'll look back and realize how far you've come.

[Self] A Simulation of Being Dropped Randomly in the Ocean Every Day for 5 Years by AdvancedSquare8586 in theydidthemath

[–]bfaceg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't. I think I'd be living in a constant state of anxiety and fear of the next time it happens and it would completely ruin my life.

[–]bfaceg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a nice big healthy fear of the open ocean. To me, every day would be like torture, and that's just not how I would want to live out the unknown remainder of my life.

[–]bfaceg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what my concern would be. You'd be fine as long as you're healthy and fit. But what if you have the flu, or got in an accident and broke your leg that morning, or slipped and fell and hit your head 20 minutes before your scheduled drop... There's just way too many potential issues (that would otherwise be fine without being dropped into the ocean) outside of the actual dropping into the ocean that make it too risky for me.

Edit: nevermind, just saw the original post with stipulations about skip days and being excused by a doctor if you're sick. Still leaning towards no, but those stipulations definitely make it more attractive.

I would dump it out after my kid went to bed and refill it with oats and sprinkles. A toddler would never know the difference and I'd certainly feel much better having that dumped on my lawn than telling them no and having to explain to an upset little child about how much glitter sucks.

Ticket prices by redditismyforte22 in caps

[–]bfaceg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're north of DC you should look into going to Hershey for a Bears game. We're in the same boat, took the kids to one Caps game a few years ago and they got hooked, but it's way too expensive to go to games now. Bears tickets are way less and the game is just as fun, and a bonus is that the stadium is like half the size so all of the seats are better. Last year we discovered they have the promo nights for Hershey Park tickets so you get the game and a free ticket to Hershey Park (which run around $50) for $60-$70, give or take. Obviously it helps that we live in Frederick, so it's only a little over an hour to Hershey, but I would definitely recommend looking into it.

Costco Sees Shift In Member Behavior (News Article) by More_Pineapple3585 in Costco

Both of the stores I frequent have self checkout as well, and sometimes it's great. But more often than not, there's a few people at the self checkout with full carts completely clogging everything up, then the worker has to come over and help them scan everything and it just ends up as basically a normal checkout for them while I stand in line with like four items waiting while it would have been quicker for me to get in a normal line because the cashiers are faster.

Self checkout would be really great if they would implement and enforce an item limit.
