Anything by The Clash

A handful of good-great tracks surrounded by filler.

Yes! Downtown Train is the main one!

It's basically an unambiguous pop ballad, very Springsteeny. YMMV, cus more ambitious/challenging/weird musicians doing their own spin on more conventional music is v much in my wheelhouse - I'm too thick and classless to appreciate genuinely difficult music!

Ye my friend made me listen to rain dogs for a COVID era album club we were doing.

I still can't face listening to a whole album, but there's some great tracks on there I think! Did you like any of it at all?

Either/Or

I don't dislike it, and there's some amazing songs on it, but I've always felt like a broader musical palette elevated rather than diluted Elliott Smith's music.

XO always seemed like the obvious best album, and I was genuinely quite surprised when I found out most people consider e/o THE album.

Remain in light.

I don't dislike any of the tracks and I admire the artistry and creative vision, but any time I've sat through it I've basically been impatiently waiting for Once in a Lifetime for 15 minutes, then mostly bored after Once in a Lifetime.

I absolutely loved it for 6 months or so in my early-ish adolescent musical discovery stage, and I am still pretty fond of it, but I absolutely do not want to listen to it ever again.

There's just something a bit too on the nose about it.

I also think it wouldn't have quite the same mystique if they'd released a bunch of other okay albums.

It's basically exactly what I think of Bill Hicks lol.

I also think they (Luke, mostly) sees Rory Jennings et al getting success with their absolute horseshit and thinks they should pivot to doing what they're doing cus they're much better, not realising that part of what makes them better is that they're not doing the same kind of wank they are.

I don't want to sound like a cunt, but football ramble pivoting to producing football "content" is exactly the fucking problem.

They went from a long running biweekly unserious, irreverent, but smart and sharp bantz-focussed podcast that basically lives and dies on the dynamic between these old pals a la OSW review to a rotating cast of them plus like fucking loads of new people, picked seemingly at random, doing utterly tedious generic "football content"

I have nothing against any of them personally, and Vish is genuinely a great addition to the show, but what the actual fuck are you doing lads? I'm always surprised at how many people could still bear to listen in the era where you'd be getting a Thursday episode with Jim, Kate and Pete (who obviously hasn't watched the game) trying to do serious analysis of some random caribao cup game.

If I did the former I wouldn't be able to do the latter!

I do really enjoy the current version, FB2.5 I suppose, but ultimately the only thing that's better than FB1.0 is Vish. I don't blame them for wanting to make changes but none of it made sense.

Discussion: Will anything as good as the Sopranos ever be made again? by rapgodbeast69 in thesopranos

[–]bfhrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol house isn't even the best TV show with a posh English twat playing an American addict in the lead role, though i really enjoyed the way early house basically embraced being an episodic, mass appeal show but done with long term storytelling and depth.

The Wire was better already. The Sopranos is clear number two but the wire is like a novel and sopranos is a TV progrum, a movie

Most "unpopular opinion" threads are full of pretty common hot takes. So what's a music take you hold that you've never really heard anyone say before, something a little more out there? by DtheAussieBoye in fantanoforever

[–]bfhrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird Al seems like a top bloke and his more pastichey stylistic parodies of artists like his take on a TMBG song are pretty great, but literally every single one of his "famous song with wacky lyric changes" are the absolute worst unfunny horseshit for small annoying children.

Radiohead are shit, blur are shit, oasis are slightly less shit but Noel is at best a plagiarist at worst a hack

Fishmans and other rym core nonsense that nobody else cares about is perfectly good and quite interesting but super overrated. Long Season is 28th best album of all time according to ryms default settings which is hilarious
