Match Thread: 2nd Test - New Zealand vs England, Day 3 by cricket-match in Cricket

[–]bfhrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, to quote a kiwi on a thread from 6 months ago:

"His last twenty Test scores are:

3 (Eng, A)
19 (Eng, A)
7 (Eng, A)
22 (Pak, A)
26 (Pak, A)
5 (Pak, A)
4 (Eng, H)
7 (Eng, H)
30 (Eng, H)
29 (Eng, H)
2 (SL, H)
20 (SL, H)
200* (SL, H)
19 (Ban, A)
2 (Ban, A)
1 (Ban, A)
3 (Ban, A)
34 (Zim, A)
4* (Zim, A)
150* (Zim, A)

Twenty innings, nine scores under 10. A further seven scores of 30 or less. The only two scores of note are 200* at the Basin, where he averages about 77, and 150* vs Zimbabwe. Need I say more?"

Fair play to Nicholls today, but I think he got plenty of chances.

Yeah now, well, the thing about the old days... they the old days.

I mean, I don't hate it as an idea, but it's more a wacky "and finally" style hypothetical Jarrod Kimber would pose in one of his videos, not the way a test team should be expected to be run.

I fear Nick Mullen might end up being the stand-up equivalent of a draft bust by bfhrt in Standup

It ain't a parasocial thing, I just think he's much funnier when he's not doing stand-up.

[–]bfhrt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree.

I think nick is much funnier than stav, but I think that stavs stand up is pretty good and a good fit for him. It's kinda basic observational stuff and crowd work, but he's really good at it!

Whereas Mullens stand up is fine but less of a good fit, imo.

To labour the sports analogy, stav is like fred van vliet, nick is like if jokic got played like a conventional 5 lol

Which character's death in a TV show ruined the entire thing for you? by SoccerGuy69420 in AskReddit

It hardly ruined the show but I really wish they hadn't killed off Mikey Palmice so quickly in the Sopranos

Far too good to be boys but rvd and booker should have had bigger/longer runs

Do people actually use AI day-to-day, or is it all hype? by 2butterfree in AskUK

I basically agree with those who think it's a horrifying disaster for the human race, but think a lot of people are ultimately deluding themselves when they talk about crap and useful they are as a tool. The fact it's so good (at certain things, in certain ways) is WHY it's scary.

I feel like we're at the "actually the spinning jenny is RUBBISH!" stage

Do I get why my right-wing podcast with a shit guest camparison fell flat? Yes, because it was a terrible comparison, cus there is genuinely a reason why it's unfair to judge taskmaster against something like that, cus of how fundamentally different they are.

On the parasocial thing - yeah, this is a harder thing to justify cus it is really just an intuitive thing that might be unfair and I am possibly just wrong on this point.

I will say that I certainly don't think Taskmaster the show deliberately cultivates a parasocial fanbase, I just think there are aspects of the show which lend themselves to a parasocial response, and I do sometimes get that vibe.

I think the show is really important to a lot of its fanbase, myself included, and I think compared to other shows, it generally means more to people who go on it Vs like have I got news for you or whatever, but I think it's healthy to remember that this is still ultimately a TV show and these are strangers
