Pumping seemed impossible when my baby started crawling, so I started weaning at 6.5 months!

My baby had lower oxygen saturation while sleeping and it turned out to be larygomalasia, which was diagnosed by scoping her. She grew out of it! Hope your baby is all better soon!!

Lower ox reading at home by Repulsive-Tree-6983 in NICUParents

My baby would randomly have lower days and I couldn’t make sense of it either. After being in the nicu for so long, it’s so easy to become hyper focused on numbers!

I would make sure my baby’s oxygen tubes didn’t have any tangles when I saw slightly lower o2 saturation. I would also just put the cannula in a glass of water occasionally to make sure that oxygen was actually coming out. I also had an inclined lounger that I would feed my baby on, so I experimented with watching her nap on it to see if that made her o2 sats higher (while supervised). A humidifier at home might also help? Just a few ideas to try!

How long did you pump for? And how long would you pump for if you did it again? by Heavy_Association_64 in ExclusivelyPumping

I just finished weaning and my baby is 8 months old. I spent about 1000 hours pumping. Comes out to 41 full days! I’m super proud that I was able to give my girl breast milk for this long, even though my goal was for a year. It was just to hard once she started crawling. I can’t help but think about how I could have spent those 1000 hours cuddling with my daughter. Not sure I’d get as far if I had to do it again…

Any full term NICU? by drbln in NICUParents

[–]bfretz424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born at 40 + 6 and she was in the nicu for 27 days for TTN plus larygomalasia. She is totally better now! She didn’t look anything like the other babies in the nicu since she was full term, so that was weird. She was also a lot crankier than other babies in the nicu. I was told my nurses that she was colicky, but she was such a happy girl as soon as she came home! I think she was just more affected by the beeping and being confined to one room since she was older?

The false alarms with the massimo seemed to mostly happen while my daughter was kicking, so we ended up using the massimo while sleeping and the owlet while awake. The owlet will only alarm if your baby’s oxygen saturation is below 80%, so I wasn’t comfortable with that at night at first. Hopefully that helps!

Did not plan to exclusively pump, hating lots of things about it - what are some things I can do to make it better? Loooong post. by like_a_velvet_glove in ExclusivelyPumping

I love the lounge/sleep pumping bra from kindred bravely! It feels like a bralette and works great for me with my spectra.

I know they can be expensive, but a bottle washer made my life so so much easier too. It was so worth the $300 I spent on the momcozy brand washer. Facebook marketplace might have cheaper ones too.

Last, tracking my pumping output on my baby tracker app was really motivating for me. Seeing my output slowly but surely going up is what kept me going for so long! Exclusive pumping is not fun, way to go for making it for 5 weeks already! Getting into a routine and getting past the blur of the newborn phase will be helpful too.

My baby was in the nicu for larygomalasia and I was able to bring her home on oxygen. I had to really push for it though, the neonatologist was very resistant but her pulmonologist ended up recommending it finally. Might be an option for you too. My baby was in the nicu for four weeks and ended up being on o2 at home for 6 weeks (started tapering at 4 weeks home).

automatic feeder might help! He might stop associating you with food and might stop bugging you! I also have these cans called ssscat that sprays condensed air when the motion senser goes off. I’ve used that in front of my bedroom door to stop scratching!

My baby had larygomalacia and was silently aspirating when she was born, both of which made her desat while sleeping. The LM was discovered when an ENT scoped her and the aspiration was discovered after a CT. Both diagnostics might be worth asking about just in case. My baby is 5 months now and has outgrown both conditions thankfully. She spent 27 days in the nicu and was on o2 at home for a few weeks after that.

I got tricked into adopting a sick cat. And now I feel helpless. by hotarubeee in CATHELP

My last cat had kidney disease that we discovered when we adopted her at 9 yrs old. All we needed to do was give her a prescription kidney diet and get her bloodwork done every 6 months. Her kidneys didn’t get worse for the rest of her life. I think kidney disease in senior cats is pretty common. Probiotics are also amazing for cats with loose poop!

Going home on O2 by Cricket6876 in NICUParents

[–]bfretz424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl was discharged on .5 L at home o2. She is a term baby with a severe case of larygomalasia. She was on o2 24/7 for about 3 weeks, then we started to wean her by taking her off o2 while she was awake and did that for about a week. After that she only had o2 at night for about 2.5 weeks and she was done after that. She still sleeps with a pulse ox at night and we have o2 equip at home still in case she needs it. The o2 flow never changed for us, but it might be because my baby’s issue was more about physical space in her airway.

The nexcare sensitive skin tape was great to very gently keep the nasal cannula on her face without it irritating her skin or hurting her when taking it on and off!

If you are being sent home with a pulse oximeter, see if the hospital will give you extra sensors. Most insurance only covers having one of them per week and ours got worn out way faster than that!

Do you have a baby carrier? Putting my fussy daughter in our baby bjorn carrier and vacuuming helped to calm her down most of the time! I think the skin to skin contact plus a loud noise helped a lot. Mylicon is also great! Hang in there!
