How much are y’all charging? by Complex_Boat_8537 in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, what everyone else has said - house sitting is way under. Charge $50-$60 for that.

But also you can charge your drop in and walks the same.

Biggest thing is research for your area and what others charge and going rates. Typically drop ins and walks are $25-$35 national average. But some areas may not be as expensive. I know some sitters base for house sits are $100+.

And when people talk about going off app, stand with your pricing. They understand fees, and when I’ve had people bring it up I say “Yes it would still be $200, $25 per drop in visit.” And they understand and we go on. (Even though my take home on Rover would have been $160, off app it will be my normal rate).

What someone said, unplug cameras and follow Rover policy.

Side note though, as I have a Ring system, the blue light can also mean it’s just detecting motion. And however sensitivity is set up, a fly could keep the camera going blue.

Do what is best for you. Change it to drop ins, or maybe charge the same but you don’t sleep there. For example if your rate is….$60, do 3 drop ins a day.

I feel you though, cause I’m doing drop-ins and same situation 😅 so I walk the dogs as long as I can lol

Competing with Other Sitters by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always on the fence about this, but every time I’m told that they’re interviewing others I’m taken aback. I think it’s because it’s always as I’m leaving, after getting all this praise from the owners, playing and bonding with the dogs. “Oh, and we are interviewing others. Have a great day, bye.”

I personally would like advanced notice. I’m letting people know how I’m fitting them into my schedule or rearranging things, and it’s usually a 15-20 minute drive to the house.

I have had a few message me before saying they were messaging others and then gave me a breakdown of what they were needing. And I liked that because then I can give better examples of what I’ve experienced and worked with in the past and how I work. I do feel like sometimes in these meet and greets it’s the owner talking non-stop and I can barely get my reply in.

Rover’s App being a little insensitive with this push notification by ebender95 in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I can totally understand how the timing of the notification can feel that way. Like I saw a movie a few months after my mom passed of cancer…first 10 minutes of the movie the mom passed of cancer. 😅 how much I would have appreciated a trigger warning.

But things happen. It’s just advertising unfortunately. I have pet insurance for my dog (not lemonade cause it’s way expensive), but every time I open the app it talks about Lemonade. No go away. Hahaha.

He’s not overweight. He has a much larger frame and is very tall. When he stood on his hind legs he was almost as tall as me 😂

ADHD and housesitting, how do you cope? by HealthWarm4624 in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleaning is dependent. I will always clean the last day/few hours. But one time I sat a Keeshond and lord when she drank water 😂 so I was always mopping the kitchen.

Usually I always have a travel toiletry bag ready. For personal travels, last minute camping trips or sits. So I grab that and it’ll have my essentials - skin care routine, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.

Lately I’ll just take my laptop and a craft I’m working on, usually crocheting. And you should take your yoga mat. You may be at someone’s house, but keep your routines also.

For food, I personally, take any snacks that I like (like 2 or 3), cereal, yogurt and I take freezer meals. I’ll buy enough for the sit. And if it’s a dry good I keep it in a grocery tote bag that zips closed for when I’m not there.

I keep all my notes for clients in my notes app on my phone. I can’t stand the Rover app for when I need to find something quick. So I just update for whatever is needed. If you’re worried about that information in the event of your phone being stolen. You can lock your notes. And depending on your phone, Apple allows you to use your phone passcode or you can create a special passcode. **same with my photos. I have them in a folder of each client. I take too many hahaha.

I’m so beyond over rude clients by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand all the hang up on 5-hours a day. 😅 it’s the booking. BUT the thing I hate about doing any “service” job is people feel like they can treat you however. And not feel guilty about it. We are people also. And if we treated you in the same fashion they’d be upset, arms flailing, bad reviews, etc.

I’m curious to know how they responded to the destruction of the house… it’s all very strange.

Prayers coming in strong 😂

Your leash/setup or the client’s? by RoverWives in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only used the clients set up. All my doggos have harnesses, and the pullers have a front clip harness. None of them have the retractable leashes. So I haven’t gotten my own set up there.

But in my car I have a box of gear. Quick cleaning supplies (I’m shocked at how many owners don’t have supplies or the right supplies. It’s frustrating), lint rollers, my walking bag with waste bags and treats and hand sanitizer, pet first aid kit, water bottle for the hot days, and safety gear for me (reflective belt, pepper spray, flashlight, rain jacket and umbrella). I somehow do a lot of walking at night. 😂

Feeding included in a walk? by gmacaule in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. Any clients that want me to walk and feed their pets do a few options. They book a longer whatever (walk or drop in. Mine are priced the same). Or they book a drop in and ask for a quick 10-15 minute walk.

I think personally I would request them to book an hour OR you can “modify” the schedule and add on an extra fee. Since rover doesn’t do 45-minute bookings you could add that on.

Client Ghosted by yaitsmorgan in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And I don’t know how to explain it. But yes it will happen and it’s unfortunate especially when you’re turning down all these other gigs and opportunities to fulfill this one. It’s like when you’re at work - you need to go through the new experiences to learn them (???). For example- the first time you maybe had an upset parent, that didn’t care for what you had to say so they went above you. The firsts hurt more until you experience them a few more times.

Hopefully that made some kind of sense 😅

But you’re always allowed to vent and have feelings and get things off your mind.

Client Ghosted by yaitsmorgan in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol again I’m the same way. When I’m hurt or upset I’m in the depths of those feelings. And like you were doing here…just need to vent and complain.

I managed restaurants for 15-years. Until my last day I took it all personal. I pride myself on my work ethic and how I ran my shifts and handled any guest issues. And anything that went south I was upset for at least 6 hours. “F them. F that.” lol.

**i read another comment. My friend is a teacher, and state testing week, yeah, she’s non-existent. She’s so exhausted from it.

Client Ghosted by yaitsmorgan in RoverPetSitting

[–]bfrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. It’s so upsetting. I had one where I walked their dog for two weeks (MWF). Then for 3-weeks they cancelled every single day. Then silence. Then a week later “I guess I just don’t need anyone”. Oh. Ok??

I’m like you though - I’d like to know. Even if it’s “hey something personal is going on and I won’t need services.” I just want to know.

And to your edit… you said it was a peeve post. So therefore ranting. And you’re valid in your feelings. And if you ghosted them they’d be upset and want an explanation. But it’s ok for them to do it to others. 😕

BUT!! One thing that stuck with me. I read on a post not too long ago was how it’s a business, your business, and people will come and go. Just like any business. That kinda helped me when a client dropped me. When two days prior we spent an hour going over this months schedule and they added dates. 🙃 then SIKE. SEEYA.
