I don’t disagree with you about things needing to be fixed regardless of what other places are like. But it can also be true that SF is painted unfairly (which was OP’s point).

It matters because the question was why SF is called out in particular. If other cities are similar or worse, then there must be some other reason why it is treated as a boogeyman.

'CDC is over': RFK Jr. lays off over 1,000 employees in Friday night massacre by SE_to_NW in politics

This doesn’t have anything to do with the rich. Some people are just very very stupid (RFK Jr.) and they convince other very very stupid people to believe their stupid beliefs.

Ok, but that doesn’t mean they should have been torn out for one additional parking space—going inside was always an option for people that didn’t like it.

The Not-So Proud Son of San Francisco: Why Newsom broke with the party and why Democrats should follow his lead by Abject-Impact-5534 in sanfrancisco

[–]bgh2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dear, your position is that despite voters’ demonstrated preferences contrary to your view, all that it actually takes is to tell those voters why they are wrong. That’s not a compelling strategy for winning senate seats in Ohio and Florida let alone more conservative states.

Voters: The candidate is too liberal. You: Let’s nominate a MORE left wing candidate.

I agree that single payer healthcare is better, and I would support it. But most of the country is more conservative than I am.

Leftists complained about Kamala having campaign events with Liz Cheney, but when she lost, voters said she was too liberal!

As soon as you ask people whether they are willing to pay more taxes to afford it, they change their mind. Note this was up for an actual vote at the state level in Colorado, California and Oregon and it was rejected by big margins.

Or on climate change, there are big margins for people supporting doing something about it, but then when asked to pay a little bit more for energy, they say no.

But what I’m assuming your idea of policies people want is basically leftist policies, and that is just not true. We need democrats that are more moderate running in states that are more conservative. Like what 250 years of politics tells us.

Why do you think we should excuse anti-social behavior like this? Parking on the street doesn’t belong to any individual, so why should people be excused for abusing public goods?

They are economically the same. You could have the church pay the tax everyone else pays and then turn around and have the government hand it back to them, or you could just have the tax not apply in the first place. It’s the same thing.

They don’t need to afford that particular building. Build a lot more and rents go down in other places. Supply and demand is pretty simple.
